  • The School of Pharmacy at the University of Waterloo wanted to communicate its embrace of a naturalistic approach to pharmacology. With the use of artist renderings of medicinal plants, a beautiful organic aesthetic was built into the exterior window glazing of the building. This visual style was also applied to various internal aspects of the building including such as the window dividers between study rooms.
While employed at Gottschalk+Ash (G+A), Michael Kirlew played a major role in the design, implementation and management of the project while under the creative direction of G+A's Design Director. With over 800 individual pieces of glass used to wrap the exterior in this building, it creates a long-lasting visual statement by not only the school but the city of Kitchener, Waterloo. This project also won the prestigious international Red Dot Award.
