  • The Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) for Practicing Pharmacists degree is an undergraduate post-professional doctorate that provides advanced education in patient care.
Unlike the PhD that focuses on research, the PharmD degree is an undergraduate professional doctorate. The University of Alberta’s PharmD for Practicing Pharmacists program provides advanced education in patient care and betters your management and critical thinking skills. Complete coursework in the areas of evidence-based practice, patient assessment, advanced pharmacotherapy, frameworks for working in teams, and the provision of education to diverse audiences.
The PharmD for Practicing Pharmacists program has been designed to provide students with flexible learning pathways. Unique in Canada, the entire program can be completed in as little as 18 months. However, students can also take a more gradual approach to coursework, resulting in a variety of other program completion options, up to a maximum of five years.
Students must complete 18 credits of online coursework as well as (up to) 36 weeks of supervised experiential learning. Experiential placements must be completed in-person. For interested students, a recognition of prior learning process is available to reduce the required number of experiential placements.
