      I do this all the time. Because I immensely fear people not understanding my intentions and taking my monotone face and voice the wrong way. Because that happens a lot :D
      But yeah. It depends on the person. Some show they care very transparently and some do by the things they do which is also really fun. Like I have one friend who's on the spectrum and they show they care by sending me silly little memes that make them smile. Or they share things they know call me out or would make me laugh.
      Another friend I have on the spectrum will tell me all about the lore and gameplay of video games he enjoys. He's gotten me into two different games and I've learned so much just being on call with him.
      I mean since I'm also autistic I'm very aware of how and why they do certain things so maybe that makes me more aware of it but I fucking love my friends. We just vibe and be nerodivergent together. It's amazing

    I feel very blessed to have 4 autistic friends, 2 autistic co-workers, and many, many autistic acquaintances. As a person with ADHD I tend to overwhelm and upset most neurotypicals (there are some rare ones who appreciate my unfiltered self) my autistic friends just get me and are happy to let me be.

    • @taigafaiya1298
      @taigafaiya1298 Год назад +3

    • @Accrovideogames
      @Accrovideogames 9 месяцев назад +7

      I'm one of those rare neurotypicals. Unfiltered AuDHD doesn't bother me at all. Those who mask look so tense and uncomfortable. It's depressing to see. As a kid who didn't really understand what autism was all about, I was constantly trying to show how much I loved and appreciated my autistic best friend. I liked when he let himself go. Seeing him excited while flapping his arms was so fun to see.
      Nowadays, I know all about sensory overload, stimming, difficulty learning social skills, etc. Now that I understand how it works, I feel even more motivated to let neurodivergent people be themselves. I realized that many of the traits I find endearing are autistic. I'm also more likely to fall in love with an ND girl than an NT one.
      The reason why I'm such an anomaly is because I also have an invisible disability: C-PTSD. There are a few similarities with autism. For example, being in certain social environments and situations can be stressful and uncomfortable. If I get overwhelmed, I can have a meltdown. I sometimes also have to mask and pretend I'm doing fine, which adds to my stress. I have my abusive father to thank for this.
      I know how hard it is to live in an ableist world. Most NTs are intolerant and apathetic toward my difference. I don't get that vibe from NDs. I also generally feel safe and in control when I'm with them, and that's really important for someone who has C-PTSD. You guys are so freaking weird and I love it!

    Kaelynn to acknowledge the moment and initiate her part of the hug first. It was also a partial and gentle side hug that can be more comfortable than a grand, double-armed bear hug. My nephew has good days and bad days. I get extra joy on the days when my request for a hug is him grinning big and launching himself in to wrap around me. He sets the amount of time and strength in the hug each time. I think that I get the better hugs because he is recognizing my understanding for his needs from his earliest days. I never took offense on the days when it was only a smirk with a quick fist bump.I 😊

    I often slip my phone out of my pocket during conversations to write down gift ideas MONTHS before their next birthday & hand-illustrate birthday cards with large walls of text inside sharing feelings about them that feel unnatural to say out loud.

    Two of my best friends are autistic. They are like two additional brains that do think about things that I would never consider. 😂it's amazing!
    If I can't decide both of them already have choosen what is the right thing for them and me. I rly love them. And I've got a lot of rocks and stuff that were presented to me. 😅

    As an autistic person, I prefer being friends with other autistic people or similar ND
    They communicate the same way I do and see the world in much the same way. (Ofc not a monolith but it’s going to be much closer than the average NT person would be) It makes it so I’m not doing 95% of the work for every conversation and everything just flows naturally. I can just be myself
    It’s like speaking to someone who shares your native language rather than having to speak in your second language that’s only kind of developed and they get irrationally angry at you for every little mistake while refusing to even acknowledge your native language exists let alone learn even the basics. They instead insist that I’m just deficient as a person. And when they are “nice” they’re treating me like I’m stupid in a kid way. I wouldn’t mind being friends with an NT person if they were willing to do 50% of the work and treat me like an adult person but I’ve never met one that even comes close (I’m an adult)
    But even then, I will always prefer people who are more like me because everyone is like that. Friendships are better when they just get it. Even when I was a kid and had no idea that I was autistic, I attracted other autistic and similar ND people naturally

    As a neurotypical dude, 90% of my friends have autism. No clue why it's that high a concentration, but I'm not complaining. They rag on my for usually being the only NT in the room, which I imagine is a refreshing change of pace. XD

    Sometimes I worry if I'm a good friend to my autistic friend.
    In my country, being social = happy, but with AvPD, I'm just not a very social person and that doesn't necessarily mean I'm not happy. But he is definitely social. He's not super talkative either but that's just because he generally speaks in shorter sentences (sometimes if I try to get him to elaborate, he struggles). I kind of need someone to pull my tongue out for me to get talkative and he's just not very good at that, which is fine for me but I wonder if he feels like I don't wanna be around him sometimes.
    Man, friendship is hard.
