Now there is a way. In reverse, lowest gear, with the plugs out, on the starting handle. The process is so gradual see that the sand doesn't get pushed out of the way. It's hard work and a long shot but it's the only way I know to get Katy to the top.
To all people hating. Those trucks arent your regular dodge ram, ford f150 alike trucks. These are more of a semi trucks european styled. Made for pulling heavy stuff, the 8x8 model is rated for 100 tons of weight. They are mostly stock. Weight stock is about 15 tons also so pretty heavy. I really doubt that american semi-trucks while also being able to pull such heavy weights would be able to climb that high. Do some research before hating. For interested, trucks brand is TATRA.

Yeah the first guy that got stuck near the top left enormous ruts. So that trapped everyone else. They all appeared to have to use the same tires/axles. So once the first guy got high centered, they all would. Pretty poorly run event. That top section should have been excavated out a foot or two deep, and put in sand or whatever you wanted uncompacted that you could easily grade off each run. So every driver has an equal shot.

Yeah what's needed is power to weight ratio most of these are extremely heavy with little power with high torque but these steep hills require speed to clear it doesn't help that the retarded spectators are standing at the top.

to all the people saying that they could climb that hill easily with their car/truck: no you couldn't - 1. there are a few large bumps under the hill so you can't build up speed because you would smash your front bumper in the ground or bounce so much you would lose control 2. the hill is so steep and the dirt so loose that you have to use your hands to walk up 3. the last 2 meters are a near vertical cliff, so it's literally impossible to climb this hill - people have tried everything: trucks, tractors, bikes, cars, etc. nobody has made it to the top in 8 years. I've never seen a car make it further than halfway up - mainly because they don't have enough ground clearance - they either hit their underside or their front axle Also the trucks in this video are not buit for hill climbing, they are built for truck trial which means they have short gearing and stock engines - this hill climb race is just for fun
The wheel speed aspect is the fact they have much more torque and this much torque is not suitable for these conditions, the gearing needs to be changed. Simple as that.

Those trucks suck. I’ve went almost vertical in a 2wd ford ranger that was 5 speed and yet these huge trucks with these huge tires and engines can’t make it 60 feet?
They're not built for climbing. The real competition is closer to your rock crawling (with a lot more mud). Grab as many checkpoints as possible with as little direction changes as possible in something like this ruclips.net/video/7426Prq6GRQ/видео.html . Also modifications in most classes are fairly limited, basically get an ex-military truck, slap a rollcage on it and off you go. This "climb" was just something extra thrown in.
This wasn't too bad. Everything but the tractor is a Euro work truck with some suspension work and digger tires. Kinda cool seeing a Scania try and climb a hill like that.
If you let your tyres down .... To me (as a power boat builder and racer) - the prop is the most important thing .... its the thing pushing you through the water. In this case its the same ... you are looking for traction. Let down your tyres and you will be amazed at the traction you get in return, specially on a short, slow and steep course like this

No its because half way up it turns to loose dirt, only thing going up that is something on tracks like a tank and even that would have a hard time.

This wasn't too bad. Everything but the tractor is a Euro work truck with some suspension work and digger tires. Kinda cool seeing a Scania try and climb a hill like that.

the way the shape of the trail changes after every truck is cool.
If you let your tyres down .... To me (as a power boat builder and racer) - the prop is the most important thing .... its the thing pushing you through the water. In this case its the same ... you are looking for traction. Let down your tyres and you will be amazed at the traction you get in return, specially on a short, slow and steep course like this
