People don't realise how steep this actually is. Also, seems the main reason of failure is that the tracks are so deep the axles are hitting the ground.
No its because half way up it turns to loose dirt, only thing going up that is something on tracks like a tank and even that would have a hard time.

What all armchair experts commenting on here are forgetting is that A. The video doesn't give an accurate representation of how steep the hill is and B. That the competitors have zero run up to build momentum to get any farther than they are getting.
Now there is a way. In reverse, lowest gear, with the plugs out, on the starting handle. The process is so gradual see that the sand doesn't get pushed out of the way. It's hard work and a long shot but it's the only way I know to get Katy to the top.

Yeah what's needed is power to weight ratio most of these are extremely heavy with little power with high torque but these steep hills require speed to clear it doesn't help that the retarded spectators are standing at the top.

This is the most American thing I’ve seen all day
From what I can gather this is a more or less “spec” race, the suspension, wheel size, and engine all seem to be set, whereas the chassis seems to be unlimited in some of these. Obviously it’s under powered, it’s probably some modified tractor engine. A rough guess with the way these things bog down is 100 pound feet of torque or less LOL

The main reasons for failure on this hill with those truck s is not good enough run at them and all the trucks are way to low geared so low that they can't get enough speed and no speed means no success in something like this people need to realize that both speed and the right gear settings is key in hill climbing outside of excellent tread tires

Had to be. Maybe a minimum weight limit? My 14-year-old Ram could take that without dropping tire pressure. I think it's the lack of run-up that limits them so much.

Those trucks suck. I’ve went almost vertical in a 2wd ford ranger that was 5 speed and yet these huge trucks with these huge tires and engines can’t make it 60 feet?
They're not built for climbing. The real competition is closer to your rock crawling (with a lot more mud). Grab as many checkpoints as possible with as little direction changes as possible in something like this ruclips.net/video/7426Prq6GRQ/видео.html . Also modifications in most classes are fairly limited, basically get an ex-military truck, slap a rollcage on it and off you go.
This "climb" was just something extra thrown in.

To all people hating. Those trucks arent your regular dodge ram, ford f150 alike trucks. These are more of a semi trucks european styled. Made for pulling heavy stuff, the 8x8 model is rated for 100 tons of weight. They are mostly stock. Weight stock is about 15 tons also so pretty heavy. I really doubt that american semi-trucks while also being able to pull such heavy weights would be able to climb that high. Do some research before hating. For interested, trucks brand is TATRA.

The issue is they have no room to find their own lines to climb. They all have todriveup the same ruts that have gotten all the other trucks stopped, and thus all of the trucks after the 1st are each at a further disadvantage from all the dirt being chewed up and loose.
this is the stock motor, diesel, super heavy, under-powered class.

Yeah the first guy that got stuck near the top left enormous ruts. So that trapped everyone else. They all appeared to have to use the same tires/axles. So once the first guy got high centered, they all would. Pretty poorly run event. That top section should have been excavated out a foot or two deep, and put in sand or whatever you wanted uncompacted that you could easily grade off each run. So every driver has an equal shot.

I just translated the rules for Czech hill climbing.
1. Diesel only
2. 15000 kg minimum weight
3. Must use government surplus only
4. Must be built in you back yard.
5. Max wheel speed 5 kph
6. If you get to the top you are disqualified.
Clearly this event is just an excuse to drink beer.

The last 12 ft of the hill makes it nearly impossible. Soft soil gets carved away leaving a vertical cliff. They need a new location.
