Nice video. An old fashioned rubber door stop would take the slop out of the mast/ pipe slop. The Dollar Store or Home Depot etc should have them really cheap.
Thanx Randy... maybe you could find a small wooden shim to stick the lightly but keep the mast from wobbling around.. cheers and 73. I love your clips - long may you run...
nice setup! :-) for the play of the pole in the tube: I use a kitchen sponge - the ones that are yellow and soft on one side and green on the other. I squeeze it between pole and tube - used this for years (still the same sponge) in harsh conditions.
@@K7AGE Thanks, I actually cut one in three parts and place these in about 120degree angles around the pole to make sure that the pole can‘t go anywhere.
Nice setup Randy! My wife and I just finished rebuilding our 87' road ranger travel trailer. I think putting in a similar setup might be a nice addition to our trailer. keep up the good work!
Nice looking setup you have going Randy. I was also startled when the one section came out of the pushup mast. I am looking for a fiberglass pushup and I don't think I would care for the one you got do to the easy separation. Enjoy your vacation. 73 Joe
What mast is that? And how long is the antenna. i didnt notice it if you mentioned it. you use a tuner no doubt. 8) I am getting ready to move into a converted bus and travel till I drop. I am a General class right now may up after I get on the road. I was considering a magloop but this looks so simple. I have not been on the air but once since getting my general because the condo rules wouldn't allow it.
Good morning into Sacramento, Randy. Good to see you got everything together for our 1st DX Contact to happen. Hold on a second...I will be right down @ the Shores to install my emdfed antenna. 😜
Neat setup. I kind of do the same on the back of my Dodge van. Where did you get that snap on wire connector? I could use them here. The ones I use, I have to use a screwdriver. One less tool to carry with what you use. Good video, nice installation. Barry, KU3X/QRP

Hi Randy, thanks so much for your setup and experience. I just bought a travel trailer and I have (ironically) a IC-7100 and an AH-4 tuner with a 30A Switching P/S .....that i have yet to install. and I also live in OR - so many commonalities.... I did experiment with the IC-7100 with a 33' vertical, a remote LDG tuner and several radial counterpoises at a campground last weekend and had no success whatsoever. I plan on permanently mounting the AH-4. can you comment on the simple grounding/bonding that you did? was it ample enough to run 80M, or just 40 and higher? also, did you experience any RFI issues with camper electronics? thanks, Paul, N0VLR Lebanon, OR
Paul, I have use the system on 40 & 80 meters. I don’t have much time on 80, but it did work. 40 seems to work fine. I ran a 1” wide copper strap from the antenna tuner to the trailer’s frame. That seems to work fine. The only RFI that I have noticed is that the trailer’s battery charger kicks in. I hear the fan start up. I’ve checked the voltage and it only goes up a couple tenths of a volt. The radio and the tuner works together. I have it set to auto tune, so that when I change frequency it drops to low power and goes into tune. Really nice when using winlink. Enjoy
Nice setup! Where did you get those cam lock wire connectors? Suggestion: rather than a bungee cord to control the mast wobble in wind use a wooden wedge, like a door stop. It'd be much more secure. Also, you didn't say how long that telescoping mast was. I'd like to get one for my coach. 73
I am putting the same type set up on my RV since I have a grounding problem in my RV. How long is your wire and how did you get the coax into your RV? Enjoyed the video.
Cool set up, Randy. I can't wait until I retire where my wife and I plan to travel in our Jayco. I'm looking forward to annoying her with my hobbies too! PS - I've seen people use rubber door stoppers to take the slop out of the mast in the square tube if that bothers you.
Randy, Now that 5 months has passed, would you do anything different? I am considering a similar setup, as I have an IC-7100. Did you consider a smaller lighter fiberglass pole?
I just used this for Field Day and will be using it as I travel to Oshkosh in a couple of weeks. A lighter pole would be nice. Stay away from carbon fiber poles, as they are conductive.
Very nice setup there Randy! Quick, easy... on the air 🙂 Btw Randy, could you please provide s close up image of your hook at the top? Source? Thanks & 73 John - N7GHZ
I recommend that you add a second broken line mark maybe a foot above the "stop" mark as a warning. Then you can rapidly raise the pole until you get to the warning mark, then proceed with caution. In fact, if tape will work, a ring of red tape might work even better.
One option about the wiggle might be making a bushing from something like a plastic cutting board, or if there's a makers space along one of your paths 3D print one (or order from somewhere like Shapeways).
Nice setup im looking at a mast of that type that collapses to around 5ft so i can carry it in the storage compartment on my fifth wheel much better than the 2 10' mast sections i use know and carry on a cargo trailer 👍👍73 N9KJE

Also it is now common to use silicon MEMS XO they are stable and low jitter so maybe there will be a Silicon Site gathering.

Randy, nice setup, is that the DXE mast and Icom AH4 tuner? K5TGS?
That is correct www. dxengineering.com/parts/dxe-tfk25
How are you grounding the radio? I know I had issues when I transmitted with signal getting into my computer until I grounded to the RV.
