Thank you, Craig! I guess it's about time I review a fixed blade Lionsteel. My only experience so far with Lionsteel is the Mr. Blade Cosmo (which was manufactured by Lionsteel, but designed by Mr. Blade). I think that one was too thick behind the edge, but that might not be the case with the fixed blades from Lionsteel. Time will tell!
Nice video and good pictures there! Thx! FYI: N690 is the same steel as N690c(o). The co stands for cobalt and if you look at the composition of the two, the N690 has the exact same amount of it. :)
Additionally: The backward part of the edge is most likeley sharpened with an angle more flat than then forward part. Because of this, the cutting works better, but it gets dull faster. The forward part is more blunt, so you can chop and dont damage the blade as fast as the rear part. ;)
@@petesahat747 - Hey! Thank you for watching and commenting. I really appreciate the input on both the steel properties of N690/co and of the actual blade design itself. One of the reasons why I keep comments on, on my videos, is because I always learn something from my viewers. I also want to take this oppertunity to wish you a Happy New Year, a few days in advance! May 2023 be a great year for us knife enthusiasts! :)
This knife is excellent. I have used it in military service. Fantastic handle, and blade shape. One of the best knives I have. Far superior to many that cost two and three times as much.
I agree that this knife is very well made and that you do get great value for the money. My only real issue is the aggressive over extended jimping and the sharp edges of the spine combined with the area of the jimping. Still, this knife is a beast and a real performer. I look forward to carry it with me on many future hikes and adventures!
New subscriber to your channel 1st video I’ve seen from you. It was a really nice and detailed video a lot of information greatly appreciate your effort and work.
Hi David! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the review! And thank you for subscribing as well! I've been a little bit inactive these last couple of weeks, but I've got more videos on the way. Wishing you a great Friday and weekend!
Impressive knife and great review of it, Fredrik. Nicely done as always. That compound grind blade geometry is sure complicated and makes for, what looks like, very efficient batoning. I found myself wondering if that sheath is lined with Kydex or something like that? I know some are. I was very impressed with the durability of the coating. And, yes, a few seconds of light chopping would have been nice to see, as you mentioned. For sharpening, I think a ceramic rod would be handy to have on that complicated ground blade. Thanks for another nice post, Fredrik. I'll be sharing it with my knife buddies.
Thank you, Rick! Feel free to check out my Fox Combat Jungle-video I published today as well (an hour or so earlier than this video). This knife is very unique with its complex grind, but still proved to be an excellent performer! If I ever make a follow up-video, I'll throw in some additional tasks light chopping, splitting and branching/de-limbing. If I could do videos for a living, that sure would make things easier, lol! About the sheath, it has a plastic inlay, but not a custom level fit kydex. The knife is tightly secured thanks to the two button snaps, though.
How where you able to get it? i've been looking all over for the past weeks. lamnia doesn't have it yet. i live in the netherlands btw. dunno where u from
I'm in Sweden, and I bought it from Lamnia a few weeks ago. They had several in stock, just like the Combat Jungle. I'm surprised to see it being out of stock right now. Maybe sign up for in-stock notifications? I had no clue this was a "popular" model of sorts.
So - and now show how to sharpen the knife! I own the Trapper since years now and I really like it. But it is not easy to sharpen because of its blade shape. It is always nice to show a knife that comes right out of the box but the way you look at it will change after you tried it in many different situations over several years. If you want to have a knife that is not just nice to have but also easy to care about look out for something else!

Great review mate. I've been considering this knife for a long time. The Italians make some great knives. What watch are you wearing?
Extremely capable!!!
Indeed.

Must've just missed it. Which one do you prefer the jungle or the trapper
@@empieMK - Jungle. More practical and versatile for my needs. Also larger finger choil, which works better for my hands (size 10).

Regarding the grooves on top. What are you complaining about? Are you using them in an angle? 😂 They are great for use with firesteel.
They're indeed great for use with a firesteel, but not so great when they cut into your hands when doing wood work.
