  • Well, you win some and you lose some. I can admit that I am not happy with just everything that I make, but I'm happy with most. This isn't one of them!

Hi from Germany, I finished this pattern today with a fine cotton fabric and I think the pattern itself is a tent. I sewed it in M and due to yours and another RUclips Video, I made alterations on the top before adding the Skirt parts. I removed 26cm all around the Waistline and there is still more than enough room in it 😅. Thanks for this Warning Video👍

I totally understand! This has happened to me. Gauze is an interesting fabric to work with even the single layer gauze will fit larger because it grows! it has more surface area due to that texture, so definitely size down when using it. It doesn’t have much drape so idk why it was a recommended fabric if it’s supposed to look drapey (is that a word 🤷🏾‍♀️) but some people may like the loose fit away from the body too. It definitely shows the tiers well so I would try it again with a muslin first so you don’t waste nice fabric. It looks nice hanging up 👍🏾

I made this dress last year. I added tiers, I wanted maxi length. I'm 5'8. I love tent dresses. I used quilting cotton. Hope to make another one or two for me. My mother and daughter have asked for one, also. It's a nice pattern. Maybe try a different fabric. Take care! Love your videos.

I have sewn with gauze and had the same result. You are looking well. You are an inspiration! I am working towards better health as well. I am determined in spite of dealing with sciatica. My plan is to endure. I couldn't find the sewing planner you bought at JoAnn. I am making the planner I did purchase work. 😊

That gauze is definitely a learning curve! LOL! You've got this with your health!!! Just keep what you want in the forefront of your mind and push for that goal. Making your planner work is exactly what you should do! Customize it and make it work. Thank you for watching!

Double gauze is very tricky. I just finished making this dress and I made it in a cotton fabric.

I’m so over working with crinkly fabrics and their grow-ability, I’m never happy with how they become tents after a short time on the body. I haven’t yet tried ironing the crinkles out of these fabrics before cutting out, that may be the ticket to success. Looks like you invested a lot of creative time on this garment, sorry that it didn’t work out 😕

I will definitely say that this project was quick. LOL! Yeah...I'm thinking that I will have very few double guaze/guaze pieces in my wardrobe. Thank you for watching!

Hey Martika, the pattern is gorgeous, but I think it is the weight of the fabric and too, gauze stretches. 🤔 What would work since the armhole is large is to take the side seams out and take it up to your likeness and maybe you will get some wear out of it. Yes, in sewing all kind of things happen; I've been sewing since I was 13 and I'm 62 now, I've seen a lot and have done a lot. I don't always follow the suggested fabrics on the pattern. I choose my fabric by how it feels and how it may look on me. TFS, be safe and be blessed. Excited to see your September plans! ❤❤❤

Make the dress again in a small. Some McCall's patterns that lack structure tend to run big. Also, try another fabric type. It has happened to me, so I truly get it. I donate or give to a family member. Thanks for sharing 👍🏾 😊

Totally understand I just reviewed a dress I made in a gauze and I didn't like how it stretched out I had to put a belt from another make on it to make it look good. I'd say give it another go in a different fabric

I tell ya, I love the way gauze feel, but does not always yield the best results.😂 I tried adding a belt and it was a no go!

Have you ever looked at fabric weight on the suggested fabrics and compared it to the fabrics you want to sew with? Fabric weight makes a big difference in drape. The double gauze is 2 layers of gauze fabric woven together for a less sheer fabric and thicker. I think the gauze fabric would have required the bodice to be lined but the skirt section would have draped nice. I started comparing fabric weight after a few purchases online that I was surprised with how the end garment turned out. God Bless and have a great week.

Hi from Texas. I would suggest using the fabric for a skirt. Just a suggestion. Thank you.

    • @martikajmakes

That's an idea. It would be pretty easy to just cut and add elastic to the waist. Thank you!

Good to see you doing well!! I wonder if gauze is just tricky like that- meaning does it stretch slightly with pressing. I made a gauze dress recently and I feel like it may have stretched slightly. I’ll have to keep watch for that. I think your dress is nice. Maybe a belt would work?

    • @martikajmakes
      @martikajmakes  2 года назад

It definitely stretches with pressing. I did try a belt and it looked a hot mess! LOL!!! Thank you so much!
