- Today we're looking at a beautiful 1958 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top! This beauty is equipped with PAF pickups and is of the rarer 'dark back' finish. It is a fairly lightweight Les Paul, coming in at 8lb 4oz, and is in very good condition with wear in the right places for a great worn-in feel. The tuners had been replaced at one point but the originals are back on, and the tailpiece has been replaced. The PAFs currently do not have the covers on them, but are stored in the case if you'd like them back on. We're having Dan Phelps run this one through a 1979 Marshall JMP MK2 head and cab for some great classic Marshall tones!
For more information about the guitar or amp, please check out:

(The amp will be on our site asap!)
Music: The Hollers "When We Were Young" (Instrumental)
Dark backs are neat., and these 58s and 57s of course generally quite desirable. I think they glossed over visuals of the headstock rework, the back body wear.
They could document these guitars in detail more the way Trogly does, instead they maybe blow a little too much smoke and Folklore as a way to encourage an impulsive buy.
Really cool guitar and amazing combination! That's the sound!
You guys should do another video of this guitar thru a clean amp
Perfect combination for me! Just need a Lefty!
We need more Les Paul/Fender amp demos. The guitar sounds great but with so much gain it just sounds like any other Les Paul/Marshall combo..
My Lord, she's a Beauty in EVERY WAY!!! She is GORGEOUS to look at and Man what a SOUND, Of Course that Marshall half Stack
Helps a Great Deal. Thank you VERY much for Posting this Beauty........I LOVE THIS CHANNEL
so much So I had to SUBSCRIBE!
🎸💚
beautiful. my dream les paul
My guitar dream , a 58 goldtop darkback
Love to hear that ax through a Trainwreck with Dan's touch & vibrato …
My Line 6 4×12 was "modded" with a clay molded Marshall logo I put on it and added gold hardware but the ll's got knocked off so now it's name is Marsha !Marsha ,Marsha Marsha ! I did kinda have a thing for that Brady Bunch chick back in the day!
Not exactly a steal at $120k but the sound is awesome.
Harry Ireland that is the vintage market my friend
@@martinos877 Yeah, I got a '59 Burst lying around, but the market is kinda weak at the moment. Maybe at 800k I'll let it go.
/sarcasm off.
Great goldtop!
Would like to hear it with the covers back on.
Agreed. It NEEDS covers.
Ah such a beautiful video and beautiful guitar - but why the distorted lead playing? Let's hear the actual guitar and not the squared off distorted sound of the amp with the worn out Guitar Center blues riffs.
Did the 58/59 Les Pauls come with Bumble Bee .022 capacitors?
Joe Bonamassa says the centralab pots are in a big part of the sound, more so than the other electronics. He's a strange guy but that's an interesting statement.
@@j_freed J, I have seen those centralab caps before as well as the Bumble Bee caps from lots of old tube radios, amps, etc. For a while I had a whole collection of all kinds of caps including: Vitamin K, White Lion and lots of mallory and Spragues in the .022 450 volt range.
Sound like a buncha grandparents complaining about too much gain
Looks like it has been refretted?
Ahhh the good life. So tasteful. I'm snacking on fancy cheese and sipping sherry while enjoying this video. Indeed.
.... great
dat Phelps!!
... clear is not necessary...
seldom heard such a guitar... great...
I hope nobody coverts that to a Sunburst...
It sounds really nice
Goldtops Grail 🍯
Local gentlemen... was it Stone Gossard or Mike McCready? It wasn't a 1959 so maybe not McCready, hmmm....
If you can’t take criticism I don’t know what to tell you
Man, that amp is lame ... put the right tubes back in it ...
Jesus loves you
That was not a good way to represent the tone of those PAFs. I'd recommend a clean amp as others have suggested.
They need to get Ben Affleck and that other guy to do more covers
Lovely! Little too much gain for my taste... let’s hear edge of clean !
Why use so much drive to show the tone. Drive doesn’t add tone. Would have loved to hear it clean, maybe just a little bit of breakup
Hey pal, not everyone is made of money, as a matter of fact, thats how i purchased my 1st guitar, on payments, hmmm, that comment made sounds kinda stuckup
lmao why take it personally, I'm fairly certain that he meant it was uncommon to do multiple payments in a private sale, which... well it is *incredibly* rare.
@@screamingstrings76 believe it or not, a lot of people are not made of money, ive worked in music stores and trying to sell high end guitars in towns where its almost impossible, the only way you could pay off a 3500.00 to 5000.00 guitar is 1# win the lottery, 2# have a unlimited amount credit card, & 3# make payments, there are still places that cant do the financing thing so they do in house payment plans, as we had done..
sniperforce34 yeah he’s not talking about a store or anything like that. He’s talking about the original owner selling the guitar to another private individual and accepting payments, which is in fact pretty rare these days. You’re right regarding stores doing this but that isn’t at all what is being talked about here.
@@screamingstrings76 chances are the original owner knew the buyer, and his circumstances, i have sold my personal guitars that i had in that way, believe me, its hard to sell high end guitars, even in big cities, case and point, a guild blues bird, a 1700.00 guitar, couldn't even sell it, nobody had that type of money, a mesa engineering triple rectifier i paid 2400.00 for, i couldnt even sell it for 1500.00 , so i traded it for a guitar that was valued at 800.00
@@sniperforce34 okay? My only point was there's nothing stuck up about it, its just a rare occurrence when it comes to guitars of that value. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, its just rare, which is why he thought it was funny or odd.
