    I found a way to be successful. First, I listened to my mother when she said, "please, promise me that you will not join a gang or deal with drugs in any way. Second, I graduated from college. Third, I married at 37. My only child was born when I was 38. It is important to recognize that it is true that black people in this country have had different challenges than other groups. We must also acknowledge that accountability is an important variable in the achievement of success. I am black Dominican. My aunt and my mother came to the U.S in the 1980s and definitely sacrificed a lot for me and my family. I do remember them sending money back home and helping other relatives only for most of this people to develop a sense of consitent dependency.

    DL's stance is dangerous because his platform reaches the masses. So basically, black folks shouldn't strive for anything but mediocrity because "the system and the man won't let me win". Being successful and black isn't an anomaly. People in general need to change their views on what success looks like. "My house, my car, and MY BANK ACCOUNT make me successful". Materialism does not mean you're successful, if you want different, you'll start to move differently. If not, there's always a seat at the table for the victims of this mean ole' world. I was taught to ALWAYS consider the source before declaring something as 'profound' or 'gospel'.

Refusing o to leave poor areas because of some idiotic sense of loyalty to the same people who are praying for your downfall is stupid. DL is wrong, black excellence is achievable. A lot of people would rather be regular and live a decent life. Not everyone can/will be a rapper or football player but that's what so many people prop up as exceptional or "Black excellence". So if anything, the bar needs to be lowered. Celebrate the truck drivers and electricians as excellence the same way some of us do Beyonce and Jay-Z.🤷🏾‍♂

    I could be wrong though. But as far as i know most black people don't live in the hood or are career criminals and gang bangers.

      Sure they throw Obama, Michelle and Kanye West in our faces, but that doesn't mean there aren't a slew of law biding successful black folks making legal paper. It's more normal than most folks think.

      @judohunter1 Год назад +5

      Agreed. They needed to define successful as well. You can be from the hood and become successful by simply not falling into its traps and working your way out. Having a mortgage and paying your bills in a safe neighborhood is being successful and more than achievable. Now if you mark being successful by having lots of cash and mansions then DL would be correct. But that’s a pretty dumb way of looking at success when you come from the bottom. And that’s something we as black people at large have to stop being so damn stupid about. Every other group can get success and it’s not due to racism. It’s just due to accountability and hard work to become better.

      According to every statistic we have access to, in the US the majority of black people are living in the middle class, just like white people. This narrative that the majority of black people can't succeed and live normal healthy lives in America in 2024 is not supported by any piece of data available. Black women are graduating with higher education degrees more than any other group and have been for the past 5 - 6 years.

About political things, DL hughley would never become famous. When are y'all going to continue to push that race card in today's world? Where literally opportunities are out there for you to be successful. More now than probably ever. But y'all will just go off of history and never learn truly from it.
