ive been giving those billy idol records hard listens recently non stop that the timing of this video is more than perfect. Steve Stevens is one of my favorite top guitarist. & im consuming everything he has to say about his journey
Steve is such a great guitarist, I got to see him shred ages ago with the Vince Neil band tour at a small club in Philly, I stood like 4 feet from him and it was jaw dropping watching his talent
I remember in the 80's I was a bellman at " Hilton hotel" downtown Phoenix AZ. All the big bands stayed there, everyone from Ozzy, Tina turner, the stones, Isley brothers, the cult and "billy idol". Steve was going to the soundcheck and I took his clothes and bags to his room. When I went in (nobody) there I saw his "hamer" guitar, it was in the case. I opened it up😮 and checked it out! At that time he was calling it the "Barney rubble" guitar. It looked like the one @22:24. What a rush ! I put it back. Minutes later I saw " Ian Astbury " singer from the cult, front desk said "Ian" needed to get to the sound check (veterans memorial coliseum ) I took him in our shuttle. Band load in was under the back part of the coliseum , I pulled into drop Ian off , Billy idol band was wrapping up their soundcheck. What a time to be alive !! Steve was cranking! Jamming his ass off ! Great guitar player. Ps: nobody knew I checked his guitar out😊. Peace
Anyone who refuses to acknowledge that Billy Idol/Steve Stevens absolutely belong on the shortlist of greatest singer/guitarist duos in rock history is just plain stupid...
Not sure how many know this - I have written it up several times - simply to illustrate just how generous EVH was. Yes, Steve "FINGERS" Stevens and EVH 'did' cross paths on a support gig, and yes Steve was noodling with some of Eddie's gear in general, and his guitars at the time in particular, and this got back to Eddie. Well, as Steve says here above he was sitting at home and one day out of the blue a fucking huge truck rocks up, and inside there were amps, heads, pedals, and a range of guitars Eddie had gifted Steve. Just one guitar icon to another. Steve still uses one of the early EVH guitars Eddie gifted him. To me it is such a beautiful story of mutual respect - and of generosity. Steve imo blows the most brilliantly globally marketed guitarist in history Saul Hudson out of the water. It is not even close, but again 'Slash' arguably is the most well known guitar player due to corporate America's brilliant global marketing of him. Steve is simply on another Grammy winning level. He's known Idol now for 40+ years, and is responsible for writing some of Billy's biggest + most iconic songs. His 'flamenco' solo's are sublime.
Own a Knaggs SS1 and a red sparkle SS2 killer guitars Gotta say disappointed those speaker cabs are not mic'd. Is the Friedman rig just for show, and you're actually running just the Fractal 😢
