Triple triangle frames are one of the most polarizing designs in the bike world. Once you see it, you immediately know whether you love it or hate it. But what's the point of triple triangles? Are the actually stiffer, faster, and stronger than traditional diamond frames? Let's find out the pros and cons of triple triangle bike frames in this fixed gear bike check of the Vendetta Triplet.
Thanks to Jazzton Rodriguez from Oklahoma City for sharing this bike!
How to have your fixed gear featured:
1. Email me your extensive parts list: iam@zachgallardo.com with BIKE CHECK in subject line. Include your Instagram handle if you want to be tagged.
2. Tell me your bike's story. Bikes with cool stories are more likely to have bike checks made than bling but boring bikes without a story.
3. Send me your 1080p or 4k video files via Google Drive or Dropbox. Video files must be:
1) 10-15 seconds long each
2) have as little camera movement as possible (little camera shake, no pans/zooms, be horizontal DUH!)
3) 20-25 different shots with 3 shots of your complete bike is a good amount.
4. Keep in mind I'll run ads on the video to help cover the cost of producing the bike checks. Gotta stay fed.
5. Follow this carefully. Bike checks either get made the right way or not at all.

You forgot to mention that the longer seatstays in the triple triangle configuration allow for a wider rear tire clearance while remaining straight. Straight seatstays = strong and light seatstays. Wider tire clearance = profit.
Good point I didn't thought about before. 🤔
I got a poloandbike cmdr and the tyre clearance is well tight, can only get a 23mm in despite the triple triangle
@@timboha8191 yeah there are a lot of tight clearance trip triangles out there, they are not only wide
@@timboha8191 Well, indeed, that doesn't address other limiting factors, like the chainstays clearance. So the opportunity can be waisted if so desired. 😥
Had a GTB for about 5 years and could only fit a 25.
Watching your channel a lot lately and bought my first fixie last week! Assembled it today and gonna ride it first thing tomorrow. Thanks for all the great videos man.
Vendetta Rules! 😎🔥
Man. It’s hard to criticize a bike online without riding it.
Easy*
He should make a content that more on technical not a merely reviews.
I’ve got a Vendetta a couple of months ago and I love it. Burnt color is awesome!!!😎
🔥🔥🔥
This is one of the coolest bikes shown yet. I love the sour gummy worms vibe. The tires tie everything together so well. Everything makes sense in this build.
HEY THANKS 🙏🏽
Just got a p&b cmndr frameset!! Cant wait to build the whole bike
You had me at Purple Panaracers.
Another great bike check from Zach Gallardo. 💙
Keep em coming.
Finally!!!! Ive been eyeing these bad boys!
I find the parallel lines of the triple triangle design, every tube has its pair.
I mean... looking cool is the single most important thing when building/riding a fixed gear.
I have an old Gt Outpost. I just like the geometry , it just looks better somehow and a horizontal top tube helps too.
Wikipedia and the brand's webpage says "GT" stands for "Gary Turner", the founder of the company. I owe a GT bike. Love it!
@the iron way No idea! I owe a GT Grade AL frame. And in my part of the world, PDS 290 is a sander power tool ;-)
Poloandbike’s cmndr is just one of my favorite frames ever. It looks so cool.
Dolan pre cursa review thanks!!
Older rider here: I restore and ride early 90s steel frame GT mountain bikes. That triple frame gives you a bit of flex when riding a trail...makes the ride comfortable. Unlike the aluminum versions of GT triple frames that don't...but that's my opinion. Nice bike btw.
Steel is a lot more forgiving than aluminum
lol the text by sheldon brown basically says hellenic stays are impractical if your trying to attach brake cables, luggage racks or framepumps. which you won't on a track bike.
Dude I didn't know you had a dog! I love you even more!!💗
Now I have to know your takes on wheelbase length and fork rake.
Im gonna be honest with u man, I came here for that saddle bag, its awesome were did u get it?
Fun build. Thanks for covering triple triangles Zach, Andy Sparks' bike had me wondering 'bout these.
Searched for Vendetta Triplet on google and one of the first 10 images is this bike posted on reddit
I got that same frame 😁😁😁🤗🤗🤗
I certainly love it. One of my first bikes is a 90s chromoly GT mountain bike frame, I built my commuter on this frame. I fell in love with 90s chromoly frames cause if this bike. Now I have 4 bicycles built on those frames, Specialized, Trek, GT and Gary Fisher. Raleigh and Mongol are also very Good frames
I just got a GT gutter ball last week and built it yesterday lol
Mine is a 90s GT zaskar frame, and I built my commuter bike on this frame
It’s definitely love it or hate but damn I love it. It’s interesting that the design is so polarizing you can still find some places online selling the BB17 new with a quick google search. I think the Vendetta looks great btw
THANKS 😎
Ave Maldea Steel frameset review
If he can get his hands on one.
The biggest advantage for me is enhanced compliance on my GT bike. Those two side tubes (sorry, I dont know the correct English name) connect directly to the main tube, not being connected to the seat tube at all. They are made of some kind of fiber glass, so they are really stiff in horizontal direction but allow the rear wheel to be comfortable on bumpy roads.
Kudos for the call out to Shelly's page. My own experience with Hellenics (though I didn't know the origin of the name then) was that they were yet another way for freaky niche British builders to charge more money for distinctive frames of limited utility.
I had many different frames over the years. Steel Colnagos, de Rosa, Miyatas. And my GT TT is the best feeling bike I've ever had.
Many years ago I had a triple triangle mountain bike called a 'greyhound'. Great geometry!
That thing is beautiful ! Do I have to go to Peru to get one? His color scheme is Sick!
zach, just wanted to say thanks for the effort you put in your videos. You really have something special for the fixie world. No other part of cycling has this much entertaining coverage. I DONT EVEN OWN A FIXIE yet. please consider bringing back a yearly fixie points for april fools. Thats what got me into your channel, im sure others too. It was really fun looking at what to do, and what not to do. Some of those bikes were inspirational too haha. Anyways love the channel
I love your videos!
Got a Tribe NYC triple triangle, just because I liked the way it looks.
The only problem with a triple triangle is that you can't use those triangular bike bags.
There are frame bags made for this design too
I've wanted a vendetta ever since I saw them on ig 🥵
Exactly as described
Extra triangle would be perfect for a frame bag...:)
Here in the Philippines we have the Ave Maldea and pusaworks triple tri design frames hehe
What a beauty!
I love that frame ..make more vids related to you awesome bike pls
That’s my homie Jazzton’s bike 😂
While I agree the example image you showed for rear brake routing does look a little funny, I don't get the explanation. At 4:39 you reference the "sharper angle" of the seat stays, but if anything the cable housing is actually making **less** sharp of a turn -- with a standard double triangle frame, the seat stays would be closer to vertical, so the housing would be making a sharper turn from the horizontal top tube. If anything, I've run into issues on double triangle frames where my brake cable housing runs into interference with the seat post binder bolt at the "traffic jam" at the seat stay cluster, which a triple triangle would avoid (but this is more of a practical issue than an aesthetic one).
The apartment complex where this bike is looks exactly like the one in Let Me In (2010)
clearly sheldon brown doesnt care about the most important spec. Coolness
Pro tip don't say "u can unsubscribe anytime".
Could you please review the UNKNOWN Singularity?
love my GTB
Hi Zach, can you make a video talk about bcd130 vs 144? Thanks
Nice build!
I like the burnt finish on this one! I'm neutral on the triple triangle design. Hopefully Phil wood corrected the rather obvious non drive side bearing to spindle mismatch of GXP. The purple tires complete the package.
I have a satin black triple triangle alloy frame factory built hub motor e-bike with 700C wheels it gets some looks as it looks like an old 80s GT road bike it just needs the drop bars instead of mtb bars..
We need a GTB build for a bike check!
That triple triangle is the only reason I ever wanted a GT bike.
GT Avalanche first revision is my dream bike for touring
@@Eimrine I have one of these, but I don't know if it's original or a replica....
Nevertheless, it's a great bike IMO.
Love em, got 2x 1998 gt timberline and 1x 1999 gt tempest, triple tri frames are my favourite by far but i did go bikepacking in august with my timberline and my god it was shit for storing things😂 very fun to ride though despite the added weight, ive been looking for a decent priced gt gtb for ages now and only just found vendetta bikes so may have to get one of them instead
This is a heart breaker, I just had my 2011 GT Gutter Ball stolen last week 😢
What about the PoloAndBike triple triangle bike that is going for 25% discount now!? Anyone tested it?
They call their model CMNDR
I wonder when Zach is gonna feature an ave maldea frame
I ride a poloandbike. Aside the silly name, It's clear that the third triangle doesn't offer any practical advantage. Still, its a sweet ride to get for a price below State cycles and such, as it seems to achieve a good compromise between stiffness and compliance for the road thanks to its oversized cromoly tubing and carbon fork. For a cheap bike that is not crap at all, the third triangle is just a little bonus in eccentricity I guess.
Liked and subscribed! What is the coupler on the middle of the top tube? I assume it’s protection of sorts and I see if often but cannot find clarification anywhere
My washer came off my super toughness link, probably didn't tighten it enough though. No longer using said link
My screw fell out oof my chain when I stopped at the furthest point from my house. Thank god I had my cell phone with me so that I could call for a ride home.
any thoughts about a Vintage Semi-horizontal dropout roadbike frame converted into fixed gears?
sheeeee, shouldve featured my breakbrake17 for this vid instead
We all like to chuck and jive about triple triangle frames but we all know that they're there for tiny framepacks.
I want to ride that bike. That is all.
I'd no idea that kind of masterlink chain ever existed. I suppose with some LocTite blue it should be fine to ride for ages.
I love triple triangles but don’t like dropped chainstays at all. Go figure.
Hello, good chap. Thanks for the vids and wisdom. I'm a newb to fixed gear and I binged your channel and subscribed. The universe gifted me, after my Daddy-cycle lowrider 😛 was stolen, a 72-73 Motobecane fixed gear Frankencycle.
The bike is a large. It taint comfy straddling the bar as it perfectly thuds when I stand flat footed and the seat is all the way down to pedal nicely.
Is there anything to shorten her up? 700x25's on it. I wonder how many Fixie points I can get for a bike that's too big to be nimble. It's a fixed-tourist bike for me. A 1/4" lower would be perfect. Lol. The current tires are slicks so I can't use the belt sander.🤔
Anyone know any other sellers of track frame triple triangles? I cant find anything
Can u review 6ku bikes?
Wait i have one of those screw in links, are they actually dangerous? Or just reasonable...
they are standard in keirin racing, i cant believe everyone is so worried about chains breaking, you guys know chainsaws exist right? and motor engines have them too?
fuck, i need the ti GT pulse in my life
Dude! My dog's name is Seymour too! :-)
Can anybody tell me what the green frame at 0:06 and 3:54 is?
Wow the pros really do outweigh the cons
Tribe makes one too
Nice. How about checking a mini-velo next ? (sans elevator muzak)
I didn't use the Izumi master link that shit is for racing velodrome only
Around 2015 European market seen a SS/FG bike from Romania(?) with dropped stays. Boys, they look distinctive but then triple triangle looks better with its complete parallelogram. Diamond is still unsurpassed.
I leave those triple and double triangles (they do exist!) and double top tubes to bike admirers and archeologists....
Talking about aesthetics I don't like them. But I think they are "stiffer"? Due to more "triangles"?¿
I can't ride triple triangle bikes cause my legs rub the stays 😩
Forgot to mention G.O.A.T. and Tribe Bike Co.
Will the standard Wabi crank set work on a State bike?
Zach, how tall are you? And what size is your frame?
I come from a family of welders so I can fabracate a dimond shape if I wanted to lol!
I have a GT grade elite gravel.
Proudly made in Perú 😎
"Stiffer that lo pro riders neck" 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Cool Cool
You should have a slight delay before your audio starts in videos. It often sounds like the first word you say gets cut off.
i dont think seated stiffness is worth much. this is why frames have shortened the seat tube which also shortens the seat stays to get that stiffer effect with reduction of weight. the top tube will be slightly longer but a longer stem can make up for it. stiffness only really matters when sprinting and sprinting is done off the saddle so theres no point to have a stiffer seat post thats all this design does.
Are Thomson stem and seatpost just for style, or are they actually superior in performance to cheaper brands?
They work, they don't fail. Made in the US. There are slightly more flexible ones out there if that is the kind of performance you are after. Reasonably light. The Masterclass ones are lighter. Do note that they are on the small side for diameter.
@@cccpkingu Thanks for the reply!
There's a time and place for the tri tri, not the be all and end all. Still dope though 💙
I don't know how you talk about triple triangle frames without talking about 3Rensho (SAN Rensho) and their triple triangle frames made by Koichi Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi even made GT branded frames for the GT US National team before they were a production frame.
Hello, they claim made in Peru, I doubt it, just import from Taiwan or China mainland, even sounds better OEM made in there. what do you think.
The only problem I had with my GTs is putting them on some bike racks.
