Beautiful work. That panel is virtually flawless. I like the way you form the piece and just talk through what you're feeling and doing. Too many people on youtube think they are good, but you are. Thank you for your time. Regards Brian.
Absolutely mind boggling old school skills on display here. You sir, are a True Master. The old Healeys and Jags had very fluid lines with compound curves in them. Being able to exactly duplicate one section, by hand, is an EXTREMELY rare ability these days.
Gold Standard, I've watched a lot of vids on metal shaping, probably like a lot viewing this series and so far, for me, this is a 10 out of 10, and one of the best ever. Thanks again
What amazing skill and workmanship. Where will all this experience be in a few years time. Try teaching the millenials a skill like this. Impossible. Keep up the good work.
Dear sir, I appreciate your lessons and I respect your skills. I am at the very begining of this craft and your videos motivate me to try, learn and master. Thank you
2 DISLIKES, you must have no passion for the craft of metal shaping if you dislike a gentleman willing to disclose years and years of moving metal to his advantage.
It's a free world , unfortunately in this trade you can not please everybody , but you know what , .... the ''dislikes''....they DO NOT BOTHER ME AT ALL ........As I mentioned ''it's a free world ! The only person that I need to please are , my self first, and the clients that pay good $ for getting the job done as good and as quick as possible , and.... last but not least are my followers that appreciate what I do and how I do it and learn from the video's
Thank you for doing these videos Peter, your techniques are different than I am used to , but your results are impressive, I'm going to give them a shot♥️
Fantastic video full of valuable information from a knowledgeable craftsmen. Peter would love a vid on making a hood / bonnet inner structure and outer skin and the process of matching that to the opening it fits in . thanks
Great video Peter. Can you explain what "speed filing is" ? Its the process you used to get the beautiful matt finish on the lower edge of the mudguard. Mike
Speed file is a wooden board where you attach sanding paper ,after repairing the area simply go over the repair with the ''speed file '' with 80 grit sanding paper attached to it , and clean up the repair , just like a file would , but taking less material from the repair
Absolutely fantastic result! I have not seen you anneal throughout the whole of this video? Does it not require any annealing? Will you be putting a wire edge around the lower edge of the arch ?And if you do, will you use stainless wire for this? These videoes must take a lot of your time , they are very much appreciated, Stay safe, Chris B.
Thank you for your kind words .I will use 3 mm steel rod for the wheel arch , but I will paint the rod to stop corrosion , as far as annealing the piece... there was no need in this case
Absolutely fantastic work Peter, and a great inspiration to all of us mere mortals. I have one question if you don’t mind what thickness and grade of metal do you find best for shaping? Thanks
Great video peter with superb teaching of techniques used. I’ll be using them or should I say that I’ll be having a go in my garage trying something similar. I might make a pattern of my Austin A30 rear wing as that has curves and flared part too.

Metal fatigue...can you do a video on overworking metal? It seems like the metal would be so overworked by moving the metal around but it's apparently not.
in 50 + Years that I have been working with metal or alluminium I never had a problem with metal fatigue , may be you are working with a different temper metal ?.... Sometime it could gets too thin yes ..but never fatigue

I use cold rolled steel CA3 (temper ) 1 mm thick / ally half hard 1.6 thick (temper 5005 H34) or other ways known as 5000 series.

Lovely job, did you make your own slapper/flipper flapper?
Yes we make them , and sell a variety of them as well .
Hello Peter : great videos, great job ! Just a question : witch type of aluminium do you use for this guard and how thick is this sheet ? Thanks.
Sorry I found the answer in an other comment below.
The ally used was 5005 H 34 1.6 thick
@@Handbuilt1 Thanks Peter. I will try to find the equivalent in Belgium.
@@christophebaeten6639 If you are in Belgium I think that the equivalent would be 3000 Series half hardened
36:45 - the cut to superbly shiny panel, how long was the off camera wheeling?
I bit by bit did the wheeling off camera in order to keep my shoulders , probably all up 3/4 of an hour

Peter what wood is the stump if you don’t mind me asking.
any hard wood will do the job , my is red gum
about 5:43 I would think my world had ended , so im now watching very closely indeed.
Near the end of the video Peter beats on the aluminium in time with the William Tell Overture and the metal says 'Ok I know where you want me to go'
It’s steel not ally.
