- September 2022 - This video has been created to watch while listening to a podcast made by Clare Baker.
We were delighted when Clare enquired if she could use the rebuild of the Sutton Hoo Ship as the subject of her MSc radio coursework.
Clare did her BSc in Bioarchaeology at York University, graduating in 2018. She then went on to work in recruitment for the pharmaceutical industry for two years but left there during the covid pandemic and started working in HR at the YMCA before spotting the Science Communication MSc at Imperial College London and thought that it was perfect for her as she loves learning and talking about science, as opposed to actually doing it!
This piece was a part of her Radio practical module where they were asked to go out and interview contributors around a science story and produce a short radio segment. She was originally drawn to producing something around the ship reconstruction as she had an interest in Archaeology but very quickly became interested in the way in which the ship was a real-life, practical engagement effort.
When listening to the podcast you will hear Clare talking to Professor Martin Carver (Chair and Trustee), Philip Waring (Production Crew Volunteer), Tim Kirk (Master Shipwright), Jacq Barnard (Project Manager)
NB. When listening to the podcast please note that the length of the ship has been slightly overestimated in the conversation and is actually 89 feet long.

Very informative. Thank you.
could not agree more
Were the black lines in the sand traces of the pine tar used to seal the ship and keep her watertight ?
