The first Godzilla movie was very well done! I remember I would always get teary eyed as child at the end when they killed Godzilla and how they did it. I also always appreciated the rubber suit approach more then the stop action approach as a child. What kid didn't love to see all the toy tanks and other military vehicles and aircraft they dreamed to be Godzilla to destroy or just play with?!
@ryfleman It's a little more complicated, the US distributer planned to cut all the footage except the monsters (including Godzilla breathing fire) and reshoot the film with American actors around the monster footage under the name Volcano Monsters, but the company went bankrupt, and Godzilla was killed at the end of the first film, so instead of simply saying that there was more then one Godzilla the distributer changed the name to Gigantis tried to pass Godzilla off as a different monster
Wow this was awesome. If you have the whole documentary could you do all us Godzilla fans a favor and post the entire thing in 10 min segments on youtube?
I think "Godzilla Raids Again" was called "Gigantis the fire monster" was because for some reason america wanted to remove Godzilla from the whole movie, but it failed, and now the original version is out of DVD.
I like when he says "Godzilla, alive surging up from the depths of the sea" and the clip is actually from the end of the movie when Godzilla dies. Hope i didn't spoil it for anyone, but that's how it went in the original movie. :)
I think most Godzilla fans would not mind if this film was professionally re-edited and "Gigantis" is called Godzilla again and the correct roar is inserted as well.
I would love to see an intervieiw, as what it would be like, to have the actor who did the original Godzilla and his thoughts. That wou be pretty cool.
Then you should pick up the Mothra/War of the Gargantuas two pack that was released last year. The documentary on it talks about how the suits were constructed and has interviews with three Godzilla Suit Actors; Original, Heisei, & Millennium.
"Godzilla" is simply an English translation (approximate) of "Gojira." Nobody really knows who came up with the English spelling. It apparently was coined by Toho because they were already calling it "Godzilla" when the U.S. rights to the movie were sold.
It actually had nothing to do with that, nor the famous rumor that Warner Bros. (the distributor) did not want to pay Toho for the right to use the "Godzilla" name. What happened is the distributor of GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN decided to retitle the film GIGANTIS THE FIRE MONSTER for its U.S. release, in order to disguise the fact it was a sequel to GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS. Strange but true.
@GamingGenius Well yes and no. It's mainly if not ONLY Mothra Leo that is considered the male Mothra. But since Rainbow Mothra and in a sence Eternal Mothra from Mothra 3 are all the same creature they all are male!
I always thought Godzilla was not only reanimated by the A-Bomb but also that it was also a product of genetic mutation due to radiation. But I guess I was wrong.
God what I'd give to see Toho produce another Godzilla movie already. I mean, don't get me wrong, what I've heard about Legendary Picture's upcoming Godzilla movie looks promising, but the Japanese Godzilla movies were always the best.
You know, I watch a Godzilla movie and my older sister and my younger brother imitate godzila's victory dance, sing his theme song, and my brother beats me up and says "Godzilla told me to." it makes me feel embarassed to be a fan of Godzilla. I really hate them. They don't know how Godzilla really influenced me. not even my parents make fun of me.
THEY SHOULD MAKE A SEQUEL ABOUT ANGUIRUS THIS MOVIE IS ABOUT ANGUIRUS STRIKES BACK 1955 THAT GODZILLA ALMOST KILLED ANGUILAS THAT HIS NECK HAS HEALED QUICKLY
I say we need to take the Japanese version of Godzilla Monster, "Gojira", and dub over the original so we can see the original version in English without being majorly tampered with. It's just an idea...The sound could be manipulated to sound time appropriate.
i have the Mother Fu*kin DVD of Godzilla Raids Again so don't tell me to watch it when i seen it over 10 times. oh and the americans changed godzilla's name because the original title was too expensive so they changed it to gigantis the fire monster. most godzilla fans SHOULD know that!. gawd!
THEN A MAN IN THE GODZILLA SUIT HAS LOTS LOTS LOTS LOTS LOTS LOTS LOTS LOTS OF MORE STRENTH TO DO THE NEXT PARTS OF THE GODZILLA 1954 MOVIE AND AFTER THAT THEY COULD SHOULD FINISH THIS FILM VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY SOON AND LATER.
one good point they made is that the american versions of godzilla ALWAYS SUCKED. they miss out and turn it into a MERE popcorn film when it was supposed to be something MEANINGFUL. The worst thing 2014 has done? THey FUCKED UP GODZILLA"S ROAR. that roar was everything.
its not the same.........facepalms* the first 20% of the roar is the same for the high pitch shriek. then the rest is drowned out by what i hear as rubber rubbing or low tone humming like from a star wars vehicle or something. i would have preferred 98 zilla because the shrill roar actally sounded real and animalistic while this one just shows typical american music/soundtracks having bass drowning out the rest of the music and dialogue. like G.I.Joe and and every other movie with explosions i'm overreacting and I do hope the movie wont' disappoint. also his snout when he's facing us viewers in that (2nd?) other trailer made me feel like im seeing a baboobs face with a rather short/thin snout. kinda bugged me. i dont know, but i seriously feel the face and roar is a bit too diff. the texture of the skin looks a tad too slimey like shiny slime or mud like texture. i was hoping he'd look a bit more scaly or something cuz while the guy is in a suit, godzilla actually looked like he had a really tough hide. this guy still looks very lizard with smooth skin it feels like (till ur up close to it like on a poster ad) I just feel overly worried about how different he is and how 'gawd this or that' is so not godzilla. movies are great without humans in it. just saying....^^:;
While the Roar is different then the original, I have high hopes for the movie. Unlike that 1998 TriStar garbage, the upcoming movie actually has TOHO involved with production. After what TriStar did to Godzilla, TOHO became very hesitant about sharing Godzilla. This time around they wanted to have a role in the films production, to make sure that it meets their standards for a Godzilla film. Legendary is also a great filming company, so we will just have to wait until May 16th and see what happens.
Film and action is nothing to me unless they did the roar right. the second complaint is godzilla's weird short snout design compared to the rest ofhis body. he has more fat and muscle than scales from the new design. And even so im glad they didn't make him too animalistic. still i also have high hopes and very excited for this movie. I'm pretty sure this movie will blow me away just like with amazing spiderman in comparison to previous ...attempts for godzilla or spiderman. still yet ot see amazing spidey 2 >.>

I like when he says "Godzilla, alive surging up from the depths of the sea" and the clip is actually from the end of the movie when Godzilla dies. Hope i didn't spoil it for anyone, but that's how it went in the original movie. :)

Interesting. Some trouble brewing for old Godzuke. Lets see if he can survive. Time for Part 3.
they got the director wrong, Ishiro Honda was the director who directed Gojira
"its mothra's egg, he laid it"

is this on dvd
When I was first exposed to Gojira I was 4. I thought it was real, and oh god how I loved it!
It actually had nothing to do with that, nor the famous rumor that Warner Bros. (the distributor) did not want to pay Toho for the right to use the "Godzilla" name. @GamingGenius Well yes and no. It's mainly if not ONLY Mothra Leo that is considered the male Mothra. But since Rainbow Mothra and in a sence Eternal Mothra from Mothra 3 are all the same creature they all are male!
Thanks! I think I'll check it out!
I always thought Godzilla was not only reanimated by the A-Bomb but also that it was also a product of genetic mutation due to radiation. But I guess I was wrong.
Anguirus (Angilas) rules. The Mothra song is great and also Mothra is the only Godzilla associated creature 2 be pure good.

God what I'd give to see Toho produce another Godzilla movie already. I mean, don't get me wrong, what I've heard about Legendary Picture's upcoming Godzilla movie looks promising, but the Japanese Godzilla movies were always the best.

I say we need to take the Japanese version of Godzilla Monster, "Gojira", and dub over the original so we can see the original version in English without being majorly tampered with. It's just an idea...The sound could be manipulated to sound time appropriate.
Citizen Kane is the Godzilla of the US
Ahhhhh...NO, sorry. That would be Akira Kurosawa's 7 Samurai. Godzilla (Gojira) is more like the Casablanca of Japan :)
The original Kong was a god. I mean WHO DOSEN'T LOVE KONG AND GODZILLA
working on it...

No, it's cooler than ever! The roar is cool is as awesome as his classic roar!
Godzilla roar always change film after film. But it's still hold up to 1954 original roar.
