Hello! Well Wo Fat heard of by being in on this channel. Great and always thanks for the telling folks about bands so we expand our music enjoyment and far beyond the usual bands we know and love. Good review Pete. Take care all catch ya all later.🎶🎸 🎤🥁 🎹☮
Pete is so right. I myself am guilty of giving music of the last 30 years no fair shake until recently. I'm glad I found out how wrong I was. Is any of as great as the classic 70s and 80s stuff? I prefer the older stuff yeah, but so much good stuff has come out since then, it's overwhelming.
#3-ELDER Definitely know of WOFAT but haven’t investigated their records yet, from the way Pete’s described them being really heavy and riffy in a Sabs and ZzTop kinda way makes it sound like they’ll be right up my alley… For today my number three favorite must hear band so far of the 21st century is Massachusetts’ finest doom, prog, psych, metal act ever in my book…ELDER Was great to see them included this month on Pete’s list of 31. Love all five of their records with ‘Lore’, ‘Reflections From A Floating World’ and ‘Dead Roots Stirring’ being my my top 3 in that order. I was lucky enough to see these guys again this month in bklyn after three years since cancellation show postponement due to covid and they were mind blowing as ever. Jack Donavan is an incredible bassist at times recalling Chris Squire’s sound via that classic Rickenbacker 4003, they are on tour in the US now people before they head back to EU, crazy good! catch them while you can, no joke
Today I'm going for a great blues rock band from Scotland, King, King. Led by guitarist l/vocalist Alan Nimmo, they recall the first couple of Bad Company albums mixed with the likes of Thunder at their most bluesy, Free and early Whitesnake. Alan plays a mean blues/hard rock guitar and combines it with a voice that's a mixture of Paul Rodgers, Danny Bowes and the late, great Jimmy Dewar. A terrific band with great potential and my favourite album is Exile And Grace, sounding like the modern equivalent of Bad Company's seminal second album, Straight Shooter.
I’m with mr Murdock I really didn’t know what was out until now. I’m now a huge fan of Elder, King Buffalo, Earthless, and The Vintage Caravan. I still have some more I haven’t made time yet , but I will. The best series ever. Thanks again Pete.
@@christophercoles4401 thanks Chris. My first choice didn't make the cut Pete said. I don't know if this choice did either. Can you please tell me if it's a 2000 band.
Day 29: Mastodon Pete has mentioned this band already of course, but they rank highly for me too. Loved this band since 2009's "Crack the Skye". Such an intelligent, progressive metal band. Last year's "Hushed and Grim" was great and continues to grow on me.
I like your choice. These are one of the bands that Pete talked about on the first day of this show. I've tried them and they are one of the ones I like.
Hello Pete and to everyone else on the chat. Thank you for telling me that Eric Gales was not in the 2000. I've changed my original choice to a different choice. My new choice is Samantha Fish She is an American singer and song writer from Kansas city Missouri. Her genres are Blues Rock, Root Rock and Blues. Root Rock goes back to folk,Blues and country music. Day 24 Black Keys Day 25 Marcus King Day 26 The Killers Day 27 Robert Randolph and the Family Band Day 28 Gary Clark Jr Day 29 Samantha Fish
Hi Mel. Cool pick today, Samantha rocks. Chrissy and I ate lunch at a restaurant in Logan today, she ordered an ICED COFFEE to go. TERRIBLE!! I think I'll ground her for a week and send her to her room...lol. Hope you're having a WONDERFUL day. Missed you on chat this morning.
@@kevinconnell3896 tell Chrissy good for her ordering great ice coffee. I think dad doesn't know what's good. Thanks for saying hi to everyone for me. I had a chance to read the chat and it was still on.
@@kevinconnell3896 My first choice Pete said couldn't be chosen because the ablum came out in the 90s. I'll be on tomorrow. Are you going to be on also. I'm wiped out from all that shopping we did for her restaurant and ourselves. That Walmart is a huge store to walk around.
Hey Pete. Will definately check out Wo Fat. I have to say, I was one of those folks that said, " there isn't any new good music being produced anymore". This series has really opened my eyes. For the most part, I've just stayed out of the conversation as I always learn a lot more by just listening when I'm kind of in the dark. There are numerous bands that I've lisened to during this series that I've really enjoyed. So many, that I hoped you would start picking things that I actually didn't like just because I've been purchasing so many new CD's on Amazon that my wallet needs a break. Anyway, my modern CD collection is firming up nicely thanks to you & my fellow SOT-ers.
My pick for today is Norwegian power trio Elephant9. This is ELP on speed! Organ player Ståle STORLØKKEN Nicolai HÆNGSLE EILERTSEN on bass and one of the best current drummers out there Thorstein LOFTHUS. Sometimes they work as a quartet adding Swedish guitarist Reine FISKE to the band. If you want the more complex side of classic keyboard prog it is all here. Energy and rhythmic fire but also dynamic shifts. Highly recommend a live double split into two separate albums. Psychedelic Bacfire 1 (trio line-up) and Psychedelic Backfire 2 (as a quartet) These album were easily my top albums of 2019. Enjoy!
my pick today from England: Kasabian Favorite album:- Velociraptor!- (2011) Top 10 Bands of the 21st Century 3- Kasabian 4- The Mars Volta 5- Mastodon 6- BRMC 7- Artic Monkeys 8- Yeah Yeah Yeahs 9- Arcade Fire 10 - High on Fire
Love Wo Fat. Seen them live twice. Once opening for Mothership and the other time on a bill with Mothership, The Skull and Orange Goblin. Great band. I only own "The Conjuring," but I do have "The Singularity" ordered, which has been delayed for some reason. I need to contact Ripple Music. 😠 Thanx for reminding me I need to spend some more money.
Hi Pete. Dave from London. My pick is The Dear Hunter. Big five CD/ five act concept, based on a complex life story. I have Acts IV and V, which I would call indie prog. Taking their cue more from indie and alt rockers like Fleet Foxes and Sufjan Stevens (than 70s proggers like Genesis), this band produce an impressive soundscape of orchestral, folk, rock, Beatlesque, synth pop, jazz and swing. With their new release Antimai, they are now embarking on a new saga.
Graveyard With releases dating back to 2007, they are a... Swedish Heavy / Psychedelic Rock band with 5 full-length albums. "Hisingen Blues" is always a good place to start for the almost-dead.
Yeah Pete, I go NUTS when I hear people mouth that, "rock music is dead, there's no good new music"... these are people who will not look past the radio for music.
@@toneman8478 You don't have to listen to radio to find MANY good/great new bands/music in the 2000's. I don't listen to radio either & haven't in a LONG time (for music anyway). Just for 2022 year-to-date I've got over 80 newly released albums where I like at least 4 songs per album, and probably like 30-40 where I basically like 70%-80% of the tracks. And that's just for this year...
You're absolutely right Rick! SoT is one of the places that I've been able to find great music. It is out there . It's not on the radio , it's sure as hell isn't on MTV - that so-called "awards show" is an embarrassment - but there are plenty of ways to get music online without having to subject yourself to a bunch of crap just to hear a couple of good songs.
@@bryanmcfadden4071 You're absolutely right! It's a shame that it has to be that way. Back in the day radio was one of the main places to learn about new music. I was introduced to any number of great bands that way. Nowadays it's all about catering to the lowest common denominator , just like in our T.V. shows and our politics. Radio used to help create the market , now they just spoon feed their audience a bunch of crap and a large portion of that audience is happy to gobble it up with a smile on their face. Leave me outta that!
I've been meaning to check out Wo Fat, as I've read a lot about them in various rock and metal publications. The stoner/doom stuff is definitely in my wheelhouse! My Day 29 pick was your Day 1 pick. Of course, I'm talking about Mastodon. I own and love all eight of their albums - my three favorites being Leviathan, Blood Mountain, and their newest one Hushed and Grim.
Love Magenta but to me Seven is not one of their best. I like The Twenty Seven Club, We Are Seven Live, Revolutions, Home, Live At The Point 2007 & Chameleon more
Wow! Chunky riffs and fuzzy distortion so thick you can almost eat it with a fork. Heard of them in discussions but never got around to listening to them. Sounds like a blend of Electric Wizard and Spiritual Beggars. Thank you for sharing
Great band I haven't heard many of their albums but they are pretty good from what I have heard. You summed up their style really well as they try to justice to the styles you mentioned. My pick today is the instrumental progressive/space/krautrock band from the Netherlands, Monomyth. They are an extremely consistent band playing a very ethereal and crescendo filled style of music. They utilise the keys really well and many of their songs build up from a simple melody to a bombastic finale by adding lots of textures along the way. They compose a lot of ocean and steampunk inspired pieces. My favorite album is orbis quadrantis
Day 29 pick: WOODEN FIELDS. A Swedish trio made up of members of other notable bands.... Ex. Siena Root, Witchcraft & Three Seasons. They only have 1 album release in 2021 (70's esque groove rock with fuzz & blues infused). Hope they produce more music in this vein!!! Just cool 😎.
Today's pick is the Ohio duo that continues to explore garage rock, indie rock and occasionally blues rock.Day 29 choice was formed in 2001 and continues to this day.My pick is The Black Keys.
Heavy band! Only recently got into them. I agree they mix a stoner rock sound with Sabbath, Hendrix, ZZ Top and Hawkwind. The new one is good, more psychedelic than other releases I think. "Psychelonaut" is my favorite.
Hi Pete…I don’t know if you’ve ever heard Church of The Cosmic Skull…if you don’t, start with their first record “Is Satan Real”…fantastic band from England…
This was one of my earlier picks. After i saw them live. One of my fav songs are Shard of Leng and Dreamwalker. Love those long bass intro's with psychedelic guitar noodling. My pick: SOMALI YACHT CLUB. Don't really know how to describe them. Rock/stoner with the emphasis on atmosphere.
My day 29 must hear band of the 21st Century is Alco Frisbass - Arcane Majeur - French instrumental Prog Neo-Canterbury, Symphonic RIO band formed in 2013.
I want to recommend Texas Hippie coalition, they formed in 2004 and have six albums.Big Dad Rich is the only original member, and is the singer. He was influenced by ZZ Top, Molly Hatchet, and Pantera.
Pick for Day 29 is Kal-El. They combine psychedelic and stoner rock with extended space-rock drones for an atmospheric, hallucinogenic listening experience. The vocals are early Sabbath, but they favor extended jams, like Hawkwind and maybe a little Eloy. The guitar tone is much less fuzzy than Iommi. It's more like Fast Eddie, but less shredding. Check out their 2021 album Dark Majesty.
Must Hear Bands of the 21st Century #3: TV On The Radio Formed: 2001, 5 albums Dear Science (2008) Williamsburgh, Brooklyn's TV On The Radio may have been overshadowed by more accessible peers from the local scene like The Strokes and Interpol early in the decade, and then Animal Collective later in the decade, but through it all, they were my number one. Critics like Greg Kot in Sound Opinions agree, stating that TVOTR has best stood the test of time. Even when they were getting pretty universal raves in the mid-2000s, they were never able to cross over to a larger pop audience, despite having a number of singles that could have done the job ("Wolf Like Me," "Golden Age," "Will Do"). In their art rock with a fascinating blend of doo wop and post-rock, David Bowie recognized kindred spirits and made a guest appearance on their Dear Science album. It's been 8 years since their last album Seeds (2014) but they haven't officially disbanded that I know of. Tunde Adebimpe has gotten a lot of movie roles, and I hope they will gift us with more music someday.
A cool band. I love the album Nine Types of Light. Just one cool, catchy, and/or atmospheric song after the next. It is a shame they seem to have gone into musical hibernation. Their guitarist Dave Sitek also did a wonderful job producing the second album by Beady Eye, Liam Gallagher's short-lived post-Oasis band.
Day 29: Powerwolf Day 1: Mastodon Day 2: Riverside Day 3: Seventh Wonder Day 4: Epica Day 5: Sons Of Apollo Day 6: Delain Day 7: Circus Maximus Day 8: Black Country Communion Day 9: Flying Colors Day 10: Stream Of Passion Day 11: Neal Morse Band Day 12: District 97 Day 13: Haken Day 14: Planet X Day 15: Panic Room Day 16: Soul Secret Day 17: Amberian Dawn Day 18: Stick Men Day 19: Silhouette Day 20: The Rome Pro(g)ject Day 21: Hasse Froberg & Musical Companion Day 22: IO Earth Day 23: Blackfield Day 24: Special Providence Day 25: Visions Of Atlantis Day 26: Leaves Eyes Day 27: Sunstorm Day 28: Frost
My pick for today is Steel Panther. More of a RUclips band for me than anything else. Some real talent in the band (especially Satchel) and have often brightened up my day with a few laughs.
My pick for day 29 is the Ukrainian avant-garde post-black metal band White Ward. This band takes the post-black metal sound of bands like Harakiri for the Sky, Deafheaven, and Alcest and mixes it with a neo-noir and dark jazz sound. On their newest album, White Ward even have a song with verses that are reminiscent of '70s/'80s British post-punk a la The Cure. I would suggest checking out their album from this year False Light.
Day 29 Cage The Elephant Alt Rock/neo-Psychedelic/Garage Rock band formed in Bowling Green KY in 2006. Probably best known for "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" from their debut album , all of their albums have something to recommend them. Cage The Elephant (2009) Thank You , Happy Birthday (2011) Melophobia (2013) Tell Me I'm Pretty (2015) Social Cues (2019) Day 1 Mastodon Day 2 The Mars Volta Day 3 Hogjaw Day 4 Black Mountain Day 5 The Warning Day 6 Airbag Day 7 The Black Keys Day 8 Caligula's Horse Day 9 The Gaslight Anthem Day 10 Black Stone Cherry Day 11 Haken Day 12 Riverside Day 13 Arcade Fire Day 14 The Killers Day 15 Blackberry Smoke Day 16 Wolf Parade Day 17 Wolfmother Day 18 Kings Of Leon Day 19 The Answer Day 20 Rival Sons Day 21 Deerhunter Day 22 Interpol Day 23 Murder By Death Day 24 The Dear Hunter Day 25 Quaker City Nighthawks Day 26 Gary Clark Jr Day 27 30 Seconds To Mars Day 28 The Revivalists Day 29 Cage The Elephant
Hi Christopher, I'm not familiar with this band, I will have to check them out, the others on your list are all great choices and I have heard at least one or two songs by them. This is an exception so I must give them a listen.
@@christophercoles4401 Hi Chris, it was Paul's voice and the Straight Shooter album that changed my life, (Yes I know that sounds like a horrible melodramatic cliche), but that album turned me from a casual top 40 listener to a fanatical classic rock album buying and collecting fan. Paul Rodgers will always remain my favourite singer and whenever I've heard him sing live,, he's never disappointed, even with Queen.
Day 29: Ages (yeah, so many will be left out) Melodic black metal from Sweden. Back in the early 2000s I heard some good demos from a band called Magog, and it turns out that Ages was sort of born from their ashes. They've only released two albums since 2015, but it's been worth the long wait. I really like the track "Ardent Storms" from the first album "The Malefic Miasma."
Can't go wrong with Wo Fat. My pick for day 29 is Wraith. They started in Indiana in 2016 and play blackened thrash metal. All three of their full-lengths are good, but I guess I'd start with 2021's "Undo The Chains". If you like Midnight, All Hell, or Venom this may be a band for you. Full list: 1) Witchcraft (2000) 2) Municipal Waste (2001) 3) Velvet Revolver (2002) 4) Fueled By Fire (2002) 5) Jesu (2003) 6) Wolves In The Throne Room (2002) 7) Midnight (2003) 8) Wolfmother (2004) 9) Death Breath (2005) 10) Ghost (2006) 11) Hooded Menace (2007) 12) Rifflord (2007) 13) Wormrot (2007) 14) Power Trip (2008) 15) Windhand (2008) 16) Bell Witch (2010) 17) Outre-Tombe (2010) 18) The Well (2011) 19) Blood Incantation (2011) 20) Wytch Hazel (2011) 21) Bewitcher (2013) 22) Howling Giant (2014) 23) Lucifer (2014) 24) Freeways (2014) 25) Absent (2015) 26) None (2015) 27) Spectral Wound (2015) 28) Cats In Space (2015) 29) Wraith (2016)
My choice today is a very outré one for SoT....hip hop! lol The Streets is a project led by Mike Skinner of Birmingham, England. He has a very atmospheric, very British sound; the aural equivalent of a Guy Ritchie film. I find his heavily accented tales of crime, romance, and nightlife (over striking, electronica-adjacent instrumentals) captivating, and he has a knack for über-catchy choruses and so-clever-you-rewind-to-hear-it-again turns of phrase. If you have any taste/patience for rap--maybe a secret fondness for Eminem or early Kanye?--I recommend giving the Streets a chance. Recommended entry-point album: A Grand Don't Come for Free (2004) Day 1: Laura Marling (folk) Day 2: Conan (doom metal) Day 3: M83 (electronic/shoegaze) Day 4: Messa (doom metal) Day 5: Arctic Monkeys (indie rock) Day 6: Weedeater (sludge/stoner metal) Day 7: The Kills (garage rock/indie rock) Day 8: King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard (psychedelic rock/garage rock) Day 9: Chvrches (synth-pop) Day 10: St. Vincent (art rock) Day 11: The Myrrors (psychedelic rock/space rock) Day 12: Monolord (doom metal/stoner metal) Day 13: The Horrors (gothic rock/neo-psychedelia) Day 14: Minus the Bear (indie rock/math rock) Day 15: Drenge (garage rock) Day 16: Florence + the Machine (indie rock/art rock) Day 17: Elbow (alternative rock) Day 18: Crystal Castles (electronic) Day 19: Agnes Obel (chamber pop) Day 20: Silversun Pickups (alternative rock) Day 21: The Strokes (indie rock/garage rock revival) Day 22: Wucan (hard rock/psychedelic rock) Day 23: Cold Cave (dark synth-pop) Day 24: Keane (piano rock/pop rock) Day 25: Ryan Bingham (Americana/roots rock) Day 26: Ty Segall (garage rock/psychedelic rock) Day 27: Phoenix (indie rock/alternative dance) Day 28: Sunflower Bean (indie rock/power pop) Day 29: The Streets (UK hip hop)
Hey, yet again Pete. Iv'e just had a chance to listen to three of Wo Fat's albums. Singularity, The Black Code, (which I just purchased) and Noche Del Chupacabre. I would have to call their music the heaviest, hardest rock psychadelic music that I've ever heard. They are right on the precipice of being a brutal listen without actually stepping over the line. Yeah, I like them.
I like Wo Fat. I own almost all of the albums. The band is very strong, but I’ve just always felt like the vocals were just weak in the mix on the albums. Even the live footage I’ve watched the vocals are barely heard. I used to wonder what they’d sound like if the voice was more like with Clutch, but I guess they’d just sound like Clutch. ;) Some of their songs I think would be better if just all instrumental like most of the Earthless catalog. Just my opinion and I’ll continue to buy their records.
My pick for day 29 is a great finnish hard rock band called Shiraz Lane. They were formed in 2011 and they´ve made 3 albums and 2 EP:s. They warmed up for Kiss in Helsinki in this summer. Skid Row is a quite good comparison for Shiraz Lane. Wake Up is a good song to check out. Others are for example Harder To Breathe and To The Moon And Back. Wo Fat was an unknown band to me, so I checked up their song Lost Highway. Sounded okay, but nothing special to me.
As CiS are comprised of veterans from other bands prior to 2000, they won't be in this main listing, but on the honorable mentions & veterans bonus show.
People who say "music is dead" usually fall somewhere within three camps: 1) They are too lazy to put in the slightest bit of work looking for it; or 2) They just have no idea what the hell they're talking about; or 3) They are just pessimists who lack the ability to find anything good in any music they are at all unfamiliar with. Get your heads out of the sand, people, and go out to discover some of the newer greatness!
If you thought "how is Pete gonna fill 31 days on this topic?", I've still got 40 in my list that he hasn't mentioned yet (some admittedly may show up in that "supergroup" type list though). No more than two of these could show up in the last couple days, and I'm guessing all of these won't: Khemmis, Boss Keloid, Moon Tooth, Sylvaine, The Dear Hunter, Caligula's Horse, Spiritbox, Lalu, Zero Hour, Knight Area, Periphery, Votum, Gazpacho, Frost*, Pure Reason Revolution, TessaracT, Leprous, Soen, Baroness, The Watch, The Sword, Moon Safari, Trivium, Hallas, Wolfmother, and The Ocean (Collective). Stylistically, all over the map there - and more proof to back up the claim that there's plenty of good music being released today and in the past 20 years (as if we needed more 😊).
For me there are a couple in your list I don't know but for the rest my pick of that litter would be Dear Hunter, Lalu (great new album), Knight Area, Frost*, The Watch & Pure Reason Revolution. Moon Safari would probably head the list, great band. Gazpacho has 2 or 3 interesting albums
@@gaiaeternal5131 Go for it! I think Lalu's newest Paint The Sky is on the short list for album of the year. The Watch has 4 great albums (IMO): Vacuum, Primitive, Planet Earth & Ghost, and two good ones: Tracks From The Alps & Timeless. Their album Seven was just OK
Since I've seen someone else post about this band earlier this month, I'll pick them as well: Pick for Day 29: The Strokes with Room on Fire. Tough call between that and Is This It, but Room On Fire was my introduction and the tracks from it speak a little more to me. It'll be tough making the final two choices.
@@christophercoles4401 It's going to be hard to decide what will make the last two days and what will miss. I'm considering making all honorable mentions bands that were great but debuted too early to be in the main series, but I haven't decided yet.
@@christophercoles4401 I think I'd have a hard time naming any band other than Transatlantic for my #1 supergroup of the 2000's (formed in '99 but no albums until 2000)...Wiki actually has a pretty lengthy list of "all" supergroups (defined as music groups whose members are already successful as solo artists or as part of other groups or well known in other musical professions) by year starting with 1960
Of course there is new good music. Most of it is awesome. Problem is that we hear so much of what we call influencers say that this and that music is bad, and we lap it up without thinking for ourselves
If anyone is taking advice from an "influencer" then they should just call it a day. A bug-eating ward of the government is probably going to be their peak outcome anyway.
Day 29 for me: Volbeat, a band that mixes several rock genres from Denmark. Notable album: Servant of the Mind (2021). Day 1: Firewind Day 2: The Answer Day 3: Siena Root Day 4: Avenged Sevenfold Day 5: Black Stone Cherry Day 6: Dynazty Day 7: Trivium Day 8: The Vintage Caravan Day 9: H.E.A.T Day 10: Sylosis Day 11: The Black Keys Day 12: The Darkness Day 13: The Temperance Movement Day 14: Airbourne Day 15: Lamb of God Day 16: Blacktop Mojo Day 17: Night Demon Day 18: Halestorm Day 19: Circus Maximus Day 20: The Cold Stares Day 21: Junkyard Drive Day 22: Greta Van Fleet Day 23: All That Remains Day 24: Wolfmother Day 25: Inglorious Day 26: Riverside Day 27: Blues Pills Day 28: Rival Sons
People gotta stop being cheap and check out new stuff ! You got RUclips and Spotify now to check stuff to see if it’s worth your time and money and wofat is definitely worth it .The conjuring is in my top twenty albums of all time
Good choice. I've liked quite a few of Pete's recommended bands (except the thrash & doom) but Seventh Wonder is the one where I've actually bought some of their music. Tommy Karevik must be one of the all-time great rock singers.
It's harder to find if you don't participate in sites like SoT & rely on radio for your music. Simple internet searches for example will expose MANY new rock bands & you can hear lots of them before buying on Bandcamp, YT etc. But you do have to put in some effort, it's not a basically totally passive process like radio was
Wo Fat - not too bad. From their newest one Singularity (released in May of this year) I like "The Snows of Banquo IV" the most. The vocals in this band aren't awful but I think I'd prefer them as an instrumental band. "Overworlder" is pretty good too. Their live album (Live Juju) is pretty unrelenting, in fact sounds kinda amateurish to me, it's just so muddy/noisy like someone with a cassette recorder taped the show from the first row. Midnight Cometh & The Conjuring give you more of the same as Singularity, these guys are consistent - I'll give 'em that. I've also heard their album Psychedelonaut, it's right in line with the others ("Analog Man" features some blistering guitars). Haven't heard The Black Code, their debut or their 2011 EP but I feel pretty confident in saying that it'll most likely be right in line with their other releases. Just too droney for me. I think they would benefit from more dynamics in their music, as I listen to their albums for the most part the songs just blend into each other
Wow, down to 3 days already. My choice for today is The Paradox Twin from England. Great spacy soaring prog. 2 albums out since 2018. Male and female vocals. Great stuff.

So many GREAT bands since the turn of this century!! Need to ✔️ out this one now. Thanks Pete, another Great monthly topic.

Definitely know of WOFAT but haven’t investigated their records yet, from the way Pete’s described them being really heavy and riffy in a Sabs and ZzTop kinda way makes it sound like they’ll be right up my alley…
For today my number three favorite must hear band so far of the 21st century is Massachusetts’ finest doom, prog, psych, metal act ever in my book…ELDER
Was great to see them included this month on Pete’s list of 31.
So now I am up to 29 bands I’ve never heard until this series and now love. Thank you Pete.
3 weeks ago I saw them live in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. Nice small stage and a great concert!
King King... what a good shout.
Wo Fat is one of my SOT discoveries. Really good band. Singularity is in my best albums list of 2022.
Wo fat, One of my favorite current bands. Thanks for the mention.
Hell yeah! I was hoping you'd include Wo Fat in this! So much heavy guitar groove, every one of their records is a sonic masterpiece.
Wooden Fields from Sweden. They have only one Album but it's my favorite Power Trio in moment.

Day 29: Mastodon
Pete has mentioned this band already of course, but they rank highly for me too. Loved this band since 2009's "Crack the Skye". Such an intelligent, progressive metal band. Last year's "Hushed and Grim" was great and continues to grow on me.
Great pick! Crack The Skye is a classic!
I like your choice. These are one of the bands that Pete talked about on the first day of this show. I've tried them and they are one of the ones I like.
Hello Pete and to everyone else on the chat. Thank you for telling me that Eric Gales was not in the 2000. I've changed my original choice to a different choice.
My new choice is
Samantha Fish
She is an American singer and song writer from Kansas city Missouri. Her genres are Blues Rock, Root Rock and Blues.
Root Rock goes back to folk,Blues and country music.
Day 24 Black Keys
Day 25 Marcus King
Day 26 The Killers
Day 27 Robert Randolph and the Family Band
Day 28 Gary Clark Jr
Day 29 Samantha Fish
Hey Melanie. Yes Samantha Fish makes the cut . She's one of those people that I first saw on RUclips. Great singer and guitarist. Very cool pick!
@@christophercoles4401 thanks Chris. My first choice didn't work. Pete had left me a message telling me that. So I changed my choice.
It will be a WOFAT Monday spin day/ this will endless SOT homework. Thx again PETE 👍💯
Like the name already! Will load em up 👍🎸🎸👍
My pick for today is Norwegian power trio Elephant9.
Enjoy!
my pick today
from England:
Kasabian
Favorite album:- Velociraptor!- (2011)
Top 10 Bands of the 21st Century
3- Kasabian
4- The Mars Volta
5- Mastodon
6- BRMC
7- Artic Monkeys
8- Yeah Yeah Yeahs
9- Arcade Fire
10 - High on Fire
Love Wo Fat. Seen them live twice. Once opening for Mothership and the other time on a bill with Mothership, The Skull and Orange Goblin. Great band.
I only own "The Conjuring," but I do have "The Singularity" ordered, which has been delayed for some reason. I need to contact Ripple Music. 😠
Thanx for reminding me I need to spend some more money.
You are very welcome!
Great pick Dave! I've listened to Acts I - V . From what I understand Act VI will be released this year. Absolutely brilliant music!
I think Act V is probably their best. Migrant's pretty good too. I thought that Act III was just OK
@@wolf1977 I agree. I actually thought Migrant was better than some of the concept albums.
Graveyard
With releases dating back to 2007, they are a...
Swedish Heavy / Psychedelic Rock band with 5 full-length albums. "Hisingen Blues" is always a good place to start for the almost-dead.
Good morning pete thanks for the videos
Yeah Pete, I go NUTS when I hear people mouth that, "rock music is dead, there's no good new music"... these are people who will not look past the radio for music.
I never listen to the radio but I still believe most bands today are uncreative and not that good. The last of the good bands ended after the 90s
Real music isn't on the radio
@@bryanmcfadden4071 You're absolutely right! It's a shame that it has to be that way. Back in the day radio was one of the main places to learn about new music. I was introduced to any number of great bands that way. Nowadays it's all about catering to the lowest common denominator , just like in our T.V. shows and our politics. Radio used to help create the market , now they just spoon feed their audience a bunch of crap and a large portion of that audience is happy to gobble it up with a smile on their face. Leave me outta that!
Thanks Pete... loving this band... listening to Psychedelonaut👍👍
Yet another great band pick Pete! My choice today is Welsh prog Rockers Magenta, check out their second album "Seven" from 2004.
Man I checked them out today for the first time... Wo Fat is cool heavey and Im a fan...🤘
Fantastic band! I also get a sense of some influence from The Atomic Bitchwax in their sound as well.
@@tanktuba oh shit. Yeah fantastic band!
A band I've heard of but never heard. Found a song called "Black Code" and enjoyed it. Nice!
Thanks Pete! Somehow these guys got past me. And I’m a Hawaii 5-0 fan too lol. Gonna check em out
Day 29 pick: WOODEN FIELDS.
The Singularity is easily a Top Ten for ‘22. Can’t stop spinning it.
Well, if their first album came out in 99 Sal, they don't make the cut! LOL
@@seaoftranquilityprog my bad Pete lol. Have updated my response. Have the Olds this morning lol.
Their s/t & Le Bateleur are good, Le Mystère Du Gué Pucelle from last year is excellent
@@wolf1977 definitely, I have their latest on CD.
@@wolf1977 definitely. I have their latest CD. Fav track is Histoire Diffuse. Regards, Sal.
Must Hear Bands of the 21st Century
#3: TV On The Radio
Formed: 2001, 5 albums
Dear Science (2008)
Williamsburgh, Brooklyn's TV On The Radio may have been overshadowed by more accessible peers from the local scene like The Strokes and Interpol early in the decade, and then Animal Collective later in the decade, but through it all, they were my number one.

YEAH!!! Most of my favorite bands today are of the "stoner" genre with Wo Fat, Sasquatch, Fu Manchu and Elder leading the pack.
Love Fu Manchu!!
I nominate SLIFT. Heavy psych rock (metal adjacent) trio from France. UMMON is such an amazing record.
Day 29 Cage The Elephant
Alt Rock/neo-Psychedelic/Garage Rock band formed in Bowling Green KY in 2006.

Hi Christopher, I'm not familiar with this band, I will have to check them out, the others on your list are all great choices and I have heard at least one or two songs by them. This is an exception so I must give them a listen.
@@jerryattwooll4864 Thanks Jerry. I haven't heard your choice either , but they definitely sound worth checking out.
@@christophercoles4401 Hi Chris, If you like the first couple of Bad Company albums then I think you'll definitely like King King
@@jerryattwooll4864 Cool. I do love both of those albums. Paul Rodgers has been one of my favorite singers since he was in Free.
Day 29: Ages (yeah, so many will be left out)
Melodic black metal from Sweden. Back in the early 2000s I heard some good demos from a band called Magog, and it turns out that Ages was sort of born from their ashes. They've only released two albums since 2015, but it's been worth the long wait. I really like the track "Ardent Storms" from the first album "The Malefic Miasma."
My day 29 pick is Radio Moscow. Iowa’s power trio

The Streets is a project led by Mike Skinner of Birmingham, England. Recommended entry-point album: A Grand Don't Come for Free (2004)

Hudson Valley Squares is tonight, isn't it? It's Monday.
I need to check Wo Fat out, been hearing lots of good things about them lately.
Hey Pete, are you planning on doing another series of “spooky songs for the Halloween season” this year? I really dug that series last year!
Just my opinion and I’ll continue to buy their records.
i agree that there have been some great/good bands that have started in the 2000's, but how many have the staying power to last 20-30 years.
Have you done All Them Witches yet?
My pick for day 29 is a great finnish hard rock band called Shiraz Lane. They were formed in 2011 and they´ve made 3 albums and 2 EP:s. They warmed up for Kiss in Helsinki in this summer. Skid Row is a quite good comparison for Shiraz Lane. Wake Up is a good song to check out. Others are for example Harder To Breathe and To The Moon And Back. Wo Fat was an unknown band to me, so I checked up their song Lost Highway. Sounded okay, but nothing special to me.
I keep waiting for them to do ONE acoustic song, LOL!!!!
Hope to see Cats in Space in the next 2 shows
As CiS are comprised of veterans from other bands prior to 2000, they won't be in this main listing, but on the honorable mentions & veterans bonus show.

Still under the spell of Witchcraft but off to listen to Wo Fat. Loving this musical mystery tour.

Seventh Wonder
Good choice. I've liked quite a few of Pete's recommended bands (except the thrash & doom) but Seventh Wonder is the one where I've actually bought some of their music. Tommy Karevik must be one of the all-time great rock singers.
Rock music isn't dead. It's just harder to find because it's not popular like it once was!
It's harder to find if you don't participate in sites like SoT & rely on radio for your music. Simple internet searches for example will expose MANY new rock bands & you can hear lots of them before buying on Bandcamp, YT etc. But you do have to put in some effort, it's not a basically totally passive process like radio was
A lot like Fu Manchu tho I think the vocals for Fu Manchu are little better IMO
The HU.
Sons of Kemet
The Sword. Nothing else to say.
