A simple fact about ZFC...the information and tutorials presented here have improved my enjoyment of cycling! I learned how to properly select a wax for my riding conditions, and how easy it can be to properly apply the wax, and how to prep for chain installation. What is very apparent, is that if you follow the ZFC advice here your chain will be quieter, your shifts smoother, your drivetrain cleaner...and for me makes my rides happier!
Keep doing what you're doing and avoid the drama. Your methods for cleaning + waxing chains have been of great value to me and the community.

The issue with DR is that he has a giant hatred for anyone in the cycling video world that currently gets more views than him.
He looks for attention, he didnt make it as a pro cyclist & this is his last hurrah to fame & he thinks he has influence in the cycling industry which is a giant joke, he is a scrounge bottom feeder scraping money up the easiest way possible from selling sneakers & you tube money
Nah, many channels including those he influenced back in the day get more views than him, but he doesn't like bs artists and scammers. Not saying ZFC is a scammer, but when you're charging a huge markup on goods, you're getting close to the scammer classification.

I watched a few of his videos years ago. It didn't take long to figure out that he is just insane. The thing is that he has like a cult following. His followers are nearly fanatical. And, seemingly, you can summon him by simply making a comment about disc brakes vs rim brakes.
His latest videos seem to have an issue with your "$200 Dura Ace chain" but fails to mention that includes the cleaning and treatment and most notably a pack of the wax meaning you are essentially setup for life. Also he doesn't mention that you make freely available your process and educate anyone on how they can do it themselves if they want to, without giving you a cent.

Yes - and currently the number of $200 chains is pretty low - most volume the chains are around $110 to $120 for professionally ultrasonic cleaned and mspeedwax prepped chain - which is one of the lowest cost in the industry. We actually have a lot of international sales of pre prepped chains, despite the very high shipping cost from aus, because it often works out cheaper for people to buy multiple pre prepped chains from ZFC than from others doing same level service in their own country.
There are titanium chains, there are full race optimisations which are about $200+ depending on chain - but that is not the main volume.
But facts and Venereal D are rarely friends.

Durian Rider is, and always has been a grub of the highest order. And exceedingly unknowledgeable about nutrition, the one thing he thinks he's really clever about.

His recent behavour in Thailand was so crass and insulting when I challenged Durian Rider I was belittled and
abused because he obviously did not agree with me
He claimed that the Thai female brand ambassadors for the likes of Campagnolo and high end bikes distributed by Central Bike Comany who own Skylane at Bangkok Aitport were just factory workers making fake products whereas most are professional athletes
Riding in Chaing Mai Grand Fondo event around October 2022 he was seen without wearing a jersey and giving local Thai athletes advice on nutrition! This guy is not the demigod he thinks he is.

And shop around - silca / mspeedwax etc - ZFC offers some of the most competitive pre prep options on the market for professionally pre prepped chains. If we were high, we would not sell more pre preps than we can practically prep / source - if pricing is too high, people would not buy. Can you not see what he is doing and why? Can you not see the kind of guy he his?

I did not "start" venereal D maliciously and dishonestly attacking ZFC. Guess when it started? He invited me onto his show about 5 years ago to talk about the great and pioneering work ZFC was doing. I declined because he is a horrific human and so i would never be on his channel. Then he switched from wanting to interview me for the great work of zfc, to putting out dishonest and malicious content re ZFC.

your tutorials and videos, along with the web, helped me immensely after a time of experimentation I finally settled on getting land using lubes like Effetto Mariposa, or making my own candle wax, along with other good and not so good wax products, but I settled with the one I mentioned first. Some of the videos of that durianrider appeared on my dashboard time ago but never seen any ever since, 'cos my idea was to use the "Don't recommend channel" option, but for now his videos didn't appear anymore.
Hey Adam, to support your data, I've been running Silca Hot Melt on my trainer bike (CN-H601 chain) for the last 4 months and at almost 3000 km (I set a separate Strava counter) I still can't fit the park tool CC-2 chain checker on it, 0 stretch. By now I would've normally replaced my chain on the trainer when I used to use Muc-off Dry (gross I know). Also, doctor wife's are the best mate!

I've watched a few "Durianrider" videos, and they set off my radar.
I found the "everyone but me is wrong" vibe arrogant and offputting. Other red flags include constant references to having lots of money (S.O.P. for con-men), and using his girlfriend as a stage prop.
It all adds up to a hard pass.
Meantime, as the Vulcans say, Live Long and Keep Pedalling!
The arrogance, money, girlfriend prop, etc. stuff is a large part trolling and/or to generate interest and keep the audience interested, as well as show that his advice gets results ie. you shouldn't take it too seriously. At the end of the day he's helped many people get into cycling, healthier lifestyle, simpler life, etc. The thousands of comments of people thanking him for his advice from all over the world can't all be fake😉
I get why its so hard to ignore him, even though it seems to be the easy thing to do. Its different when you are a 'personality' on the internet. Anyone who has abused their spouse is a despicable human being. Unfortunately I don't think anything will stop trolls and creatures like him. I wish there was an easy solution. Casting a light on him is probably a good thing when its so clearly backed up. Hopefully the wider community is repulsed by him, but I fear he'll always have a niche.
There are always some occasional viewers who fall into the retarded durian narrative but I highly doubt they ride bikes on a regular or even ride at all.
If you've ever looked at domestic violence, or spousal abuse cases, you'll know how hard it is for people to come forward. Denying victims agency is a key thing in that.
Nonetheless, there's plenty of other reasons that are easily proven that should make you question him.
From a quick bit of research, his diets are awful. In fact they are plainly dangerous. I will run it past some friends of mine who are dieticians for their verdict.
There's his comments on the poor woman who passed away from cancer. I assume you must have missed those, because they are so distasteful at best.
His comments on 9/11 are disgusting. Why if you're such a good judge of character would you stand behind those? And who would say those things if they were a good person/of sound mind.
Beyond that, if you find errors in testing, you reach out to them privately, then only if you get no reply do you make a public statement, listing out what is wrong, why its wrong, and what should be changed. This is how an adult handles these things, if you care about the great sport of cycling and not your own ego.
All of the above is good enough reason to question his character minus any other abuse allegations.

I used to follow him years ago. I recall stopping as he made claims that were very clearly false conflicting not only with my personal experience, but the independent research that was widely available. The credibility wasn't helped by the claims about "pro cycling career" and "racing in Europe" either.
DR has said that he rode semi-professionally in Belgium for a short span in the early 2000s and has admitted many times that he wasn't good enough to make a career from cycling. There's nothing about those claims which are false nor detract from his credibility.

I recommend your site where and when I can and get great feedback myself as a result - I hope you do too😊 And I agree with those who’s advice is don’t engage. Most - including this one - who behave like this are just fishing for a nibble on their hook. Sadly, it’s true most are truly expert at reeling in creators. I don’t know anything about this, but it’s my experience that there’s advice available on the web for everything and I’m going to guess there are whole manuals on how to reel in content creators in comments sections and on social media feeds. Ah yeah its all good on my side - i dont stress at all about much, let alone about that guy. But i thought it warranted explaining what he is doing and why, and also it gave an opportunity to highlight to those who may not have been aware of just who he was, who he was. I personally believe that too often very people are able to keep doing very bad things because good people do nothing - it was good to do my little part to highlight.
It has been great to get so many supportive comments, and to also have some fun with what must be some of the dumbest people in possession of a computer commenting in support (i particularly love the ones that jumped on the bandwagon re Zero Friction cycling name being misleading because zero friction is impossible - how dumb can some people be!! must be embarrassment proof. It is fun to have all these people make one feel much smarter than before they read their comments hahahahaha!)

I was also disappointed with Chris Millers channel referencing this Nutcase, and I commented accordingly on the same youtube video. He clearly has Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and as such any rational dialogue is a waste of time. I think a lot of channels owe a nod to Oz Cycling. He was promoting chain waxing many years ago, way before it was mainstream.
Sure..... except he (in my opinion, based on some pretty clear indications) fudged a bunch of his testing, pulled ratio's to mix out of his but, and is overall a horrific human being who horrendously tortured and murdered his neighbours dog, going to jail for a far to short 18 months for it.

Oz cycle did go to jail for being a horrendous human being. I would call that pretty substantiated.
I also dont know if you know how the world works. Oz is zero threat to ZFC revenue - he is a revenue stream . So many try DIY, not that happy but want to immersive wax, and end up buying a proper wax from ZFC. Many who watch Oz vids see ZFC vids on right hand side of screen and find ZFC. Oz has generated likely thousands of new customers and new subscribers over the years to ZFC.

From the U.S., not sure what the Australian libel laws are, but if he is costing you business from not telling the truth and you have the proper documentation, then maybe you should be looking at a libel suit. To go with it, in my viewpoint you offer quality opinions and he is also harming your reputation. No need to play nice with such folks!
Other than that, stay strong and firm and keep on doing what you are doing!
DR is shady. Lots of forums discussing his past and he makes offensive remarks on other channels if you dare cross him. Hopefully people reading his offensive comments will realise what type of person he is. Don't worry- very few care about his views. The less time you give him, the better.

Mate this video is poor. Put your evidence on the table and let people make their own judgements. In the first 10 minutes you gave hardly any evidence but talked him down saying hes a liar, troll etc. Look join the club (Having to deal with childish trolls) i once criticised a tv celebrity in reddit and i then got some hate comments. These guys are just immature people who enjoy a fight. Just avoid the internet or avoid making attacks because there's always immaturity/nonsense round the corner.
Durian rider is positive on encouraging healthy eating and cycling but hes a flawed character. Issues with GFs, drug use, swearing all the time. You cant expect this guy to act completely normal. If he has done something seriously wrong go on TV, write to a newspaper or take him to court.
By the way you repeated the word "extrapolate" a 100 times. There are better ways to show a strong moral standing or a good heart than using so much technical jargon.
Sorry your feel that way - but since he started doing a bunch for malicious lies re ZFC, i felt that one video to explain what is happening and why, and who he is was justified. I believe i backed up the initial start of vid with sufficient evidence and then people can find plenty more if they wish. Overall the feedback and support has been vastly greater than those thinking it should not have been done, with him losing subscribers as more people are aware of who he is. I am sure if i went to your workplace and made up a whole bunch of nasty crap about you to everyone, you would respond in some way to address vs just close your eyes and put head in the sand.
Also, on a personal belief note, too often bad people are able to keep doing bad things because good people do nothing. I have done my bit to highlight who he is. If a lot more people with morals did the same, he would have very little place left. I hope you do your bit to not support such a person, and support other channels where the people behind provide great content and are also actual human beings (doesnt have to be zfc, there are plenty of great channels out there).

Correct. When one has ZERO morals and only cares about generating clicks and sales of nutrition advice, this is what happens. Sadly there are many like him out there as there is nothing to stop them really just coming up with some crap and then passing it off as "knowledge" or science - often whilst incorrectly debunking proven actual sicence.
But to a large degree the onus is on the viewers. They should be checking multiple source points of information (being careful not to go around a crack pot echo chamber as often one nut job will reference work or studies that are completely dodgy from another immoral nut job - one just has to check the other side of the coin properly - is there contesting views, what are they, what is there that supports those views, how strong do i believe that evidence to be vs the views / information presented here etc etc).
if people did this in general - we would not have a miss information problem. We would not have conspiracy theories always taking off on the most easily disproven crap. And immoral charlatans like Venereal D would be much fewer. Alas...... the general lack of just the most basic logic, critical thinking and checking - deary me. I subscribed for the chains and techs around them, but this is your second video dealing with others / haters / whatevers.
First, that MTB podcast, now this guy that has a fruit name on his channel. Couldn't get cheaper than this.
Sonny - the other video was not haters - it was pretty clearly correcting terrible information that was put out - directly in the space ZFC works hard to ensure best information. It was a textbook example of where MTB can be at re chain lubrication and efficiency information / understanding. Our purpose at ZFC is to get the best information to as many people, and that will involve correcting others information especially if it is really poor, and may be taken up by others costing them a lot of $$ and wear.
In this case - we have a horrific person attacking ZFC by putting out maliciously dishonest information. I am not sure what your response would be if say i started doing that to you - but i am sure you would probably do something. This one video to explain what is happening and why, and by whom - AND that too often terrible people keep doing terrible things if good people just stand by and do nothing.
So you COULD stand with good people doing hard work and join in condemnation of what this horrific person continues to do to (not just me, but so many others) - or you could take a strange whinge about ZFC ensuring best information in this space.... @woolychewbakker5277 waxing is so easy, I run it on 3 of my bikes. Regardless of the performance benefits, the simplicity and increased longevity of the chains is a no brainer. I'd trust ZFCs data over someone who has nothing to back up their claims on the contrary.

@@zerofrictioncycling992 I do commute 2x per day in total around 9-10 km. During weekends a bit bigger rides, around 30km in total. I have this e-bike ~2 years and 3'000 km behind. It has the most powerful Bosch engine (Performance Line CX) ~ 85 Nm in turbo mode and it was bought purposely as the place where I live has lots of very steep hills and I do ride with kid back seat ~ 15-20 kg additional weight. From other parameters, rear derailleur is Shimano Deore XT M8100 12speed (1x12 drivetrain), shift lever shimano deore M6100, cassette shimano deore M6100 and finally chain shimano CN-M6100. I check regular chain and seems is not yet @ 0.5% wear. Engine is only used in very difficult situations i.e. on steep hill, otherwise I turn it off (on straight road). When it comes to the weather conditions and the type of ride, well definitely it is mostly city roads and mix conditions (depends from the day). When it is a heavy rain I do not use e-bike, however it happen me few times that weather was good, I was somewhere and then rain came and have to ride in rain. When it is a post rain or little rain I will ride. In total let say I have ~ 7 wet rides per moth (either in rain or post rain), but obviously it depends from the year and this seems to be more rainy ( I write to you from Europe). So far I'm using two lubes: Squirt dry chain wax and Finish Line Teflon plus. Not very happy of the last one. I lube it quiet regular and try to keep chain and other drivetrains nice and clean. I do clean chain on the bike using chain clip ( I know your preference is off bike). I do not have much space so not want to do immersive wax yet. I was more thinking on the top wet or drip lubes from your test (black diamond, silca synergetic, ufo drip or silca super secret). Also I know and seen in your test (need to go in deep there) you have something which is silca synergetic-E made for e-bikes. I watched some vids from silca and for conveniency in e-bikes they were proposing using silca synergetic rather than super secret. However I would like to know your point of view as I really like your way of lookin into that matter. Many thanks and let me know if you need more info.
@@antoniwiecek6070 Yes you are pretty much correct there - i would be surprised if the FL lubricant was any good - i havent seen much good from FL products. Synerg-E has tested brilliantly in dry riding - but it was surprisingly worse than normal synergetic in the wet, but if wet rides are not too long, it will be groovy. Overall it sounds like you will have grand time on either synergetic, synerg-E or rex black diamond, or Revolubes - all are very long lasting, very wear protective wet lubricants, they are all easy to clean on bike for any post wet ride maintenance etc. Wax lubricants like squirt are a tougher clean, penetration issues, can get a build up over time - wax lubricants are really a must for most if riding offroad, but on road - for many a top wet lubricant is the easiest choice. Being wet lubricants they will be black , but if you dont over apply (so apply, wipe excess thoroughly, and do a quick 10 to 15 sec wipe excess post each ride) they stay impressively clean for a long time, and normal conditions your maintenance intervals to ensure remaining low friction is very long indeed.

@@zerofrictioncycling992 I've never really had a problem with drip waxes building up (I used to use boeshield, now squirt), once I realized how important it is that the chain be super clean on first application, and _never_ add any other lube. Mix it with even tiny amounts of typical wet lube, and it seems to just blend in with the wax, causing it to stick, instead of flaking off.
ZFC is legendary, and one of the best cycling resources I have used. ZFC substantiates their claims with rigorous testing. ZFC is a seriously awesome independent researcher on how to be faster and they give everyone access to their data in the hopes that people can take your work and run with it to improve their own cycling experience.
I know Harley personally and pretty well. His RUclips persona is quite trolly but some of his advice has actually made it into the pro ranks. Think of his push for mountain bike gearing and the wolf link/ long cage derailleurs and also his high carb diet for max cycling performance. The pros are now bragging about how many grams of carbs they can consume using the new gels..

The situation with zfc is barely a 1 out of 10 on the scale of stuff he has done to others, but lets just take the example here. Because he got upset with me deciding not to go on his channel for an interview (after doing some checks on him) - he has then maliciously made up a whole bunch of lies about both me and ZFC across what 10 video's now? So you are cool with your "friend" making up whatever he can about someone and their business to maliciously damage them? Thats a person who passes the bar for you as cool person to defend? Thats not online trolly - that is flat out malicious defamatory behaviour with the express aim to hurt a person and damage their business. You are cool with that?
And again - what he is doing re zfc is barely on the scale vs the horrific stuff he has done to others - ie the lady with cancer who was crowd funding for treatment, but he called a scammer because after watching one of her vids "he saw darkness in her eyes" - her crowd funding dropped off a cliff after he put out vids saying she was scamming, that she didnt have cancer etc - and.... she died of cancer about a year later. Secondly re information - he talks crap constantly like a scattergun. if you put out countless vids sprouting whatever - some of them will come to pass. Every channel covering cycling will predict some future things correctly. What i can guarantee you is not a single pro team will have made ANY changes based on advice from him. He is a pariah in the industry, and for FFS, it is pretty clear to see why! Extremely few in the cycling industry will associate with him as to do so is to immediately isolate yourself from all credible cycling channels. The most shocking one i found last year was Jesse Coyle of nero coaching and Chris miller cycling. Mark it here - Jesse calling Venereal D a friend will indeed come back to bite him big big time at some point in the future. If you are data driven then Duran riders opinions should be low on your list of information sources as it is not backed with data. You should also realise live debates are a poor medium for scientific debate as they give no time research claims. I am not even sure what you think they should debate? DR's court case? DR as far as I am aware has done zero research into bike friction so what can he add to a debate that is data driven? All a debate would do is drive more clicks for DR which is exactly what he wants.

Debates like this are meaningless as the person most capable of lying often wins as a sincere person won't state things they can't back up, while someone less constrained by the truth are happy to state things with certainy they can't back up. On his cycling knowledge I would say Duran rider isn't as great as you suggest. He seems only concerned with climbing and therefore, factors such as aerodynamics are down played. However physics says otherwise.
What would i debate him on? He is making up malicious lies to attack the integrity of ZFC and myself. He has never once questioned any data or testing of ZFC - and pls bear in mind we are by quite some margin the industries leading independent test body in this space. Many major manufacturers contract ZFC for testing - which obviously would not be done if there were a single concern re our integrity. And check out the just some of the media interviews where you can find out what zfc started as, and why, and the work we do.

@Zero Friction Cycling you look at others he has attacked and he offered no evidence, but even now you see people mirroring his claims. He is like the Alex Jones of the cycling world. There can be some value in contrarian thinking to stress test ideas (e.g. Red teaming) & challenge the industry's to do better e.g. some of the QC stuff you alluded to when someone mentioned Hambini. But when it is purely for its own sake to drive up clicks on social media it is going to be garbage but will sell well in certain audiences, just look at the money David Icke makes.
Never being convicted is not actually that meaningful. These kinds of cases rarely make it to court because there is rarely more evidence outside the alleged victim’s words. That does not mean the crime didn’t occur.

Hey Arden0 - thats a more complicated question! Obviously what Venereal D posted re me and Hambini is incorrect - but my thoughts overall re hambini are a bit complicated overall i must say. I have a document on website titled ceramic vs steel bearings where i step through the concerns i have on Hambini's ceramic vs steel bearing video - and these concerns i would love to be able to one day discuss with hambini. I had asked him back then, but i was..... very unsuccessful, and ha in hambini style, i received a good bit of profanity at some points for my questions.
After that and for probably a couple of years, i can say that H was really not my style, a number of video's - now taken down, seemed pretty misogynistic - to me - ie calling the head of aerocoach Mr Vagina head, and probably out riding a fat bottomed womans bike, and prolific use of C word etc - im not a prude (i dont think... timesuck is my favourite podcast afterall..) - for me that plus a bunch of other really too harsh and unfair roastings - just not for me at all, but i could understand why many appreciated the actual work he was doing.
Recently i have watched a bunch more of his vids and things are a lot better than his early days re the above. And he really does do a lot of very skilled, very high level work that no one else in the industry is doing, and providing insights into area's where cycling brands really should be performing much better. So my thoughts now over the last year or so are a lot different to my thoughts 5 years ago, or even 2 years ago when i hadnt started re watching - but i sure would love to understand the concerns re his "testing"" and data for ceramic vs steel bearings.
The thing with H, unlike with venereal D, is that there is at least the chance of discussion and understanding. H is clearly a very intelligent guy doing a lot of very intelligent work, and he is not a raving sociopath. the other is neither of those former things and quite likely the latter (in my opinion.... based on.... a lot of stuff...)
I hope one day to re address with H my questions on the steel vs ceramic thing, i hope he will be more open and receptive the second time around, and i am glad to see generally less abusive content. I wouldn't worry too much, anyone thinking of questioning your integrity only has to ask "what does he gain?" All this research, testing (which doesn't always go in favour of the product Re: Absolute Black Graphene Wax), information and advice all available for FREE to anyone who wants to listen. You even take time to answer questions in the comments often at length. I live in the UK, I never say never, but the chances of it ever being economically/logistically viable or necessary to buy something directly from you is not high, and I'm guessing this is true for many other people consuming all this FREE info'.

There’s definitely evidence that Harley suffered a head injury at some point in his life. Most likely when he was dropped on head as a baby.
I’m relatively new to cycling so made the mistake of following him early in my journey. It didn’t take long for me to realise how inconsistent he is and his rants are nonsensical.

Dude, there are so many flaws in your comment: inconsistent: he's been following the same diet protocol for over 20 years, haven't met any Adelaide cyclists who rate him - there are quite a few vids on RUclips of riders who rate him, he raced a long time ago for a short period but has admitted he wasn't ever going to be a top rider, he made his money from social media so there's no need for him to race. Ive been following him for a long time, he isn't perfect, but he's probably the most honest when it comes to calling out BS about cycling and steroid users.

o can you tell me what the mark up claims are? And shop around - silca / mspeedwax etc - ZFC offers some of the most competitive pre prep options on the market for professionally pre prepped chains. If we were high, we would not sell more pre preps than we can practically prep / source - if pricing is too high, people would not buy. Can you not see what he is doing and why? Can you not see the kind of guy he his?

Also, are the ZFC website prices in USD or something else? As of today the exchange rate is 1.54 AUD to USD. That alone would account for most of the difference.

When the DR hate train was in full effect in 2017 they jumped aboard trying to claim sexual misconduct, yet have stories which are inconsistent and with all the evidence pointing to these being consensual. I've lived in Thailand for years and specifically in Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai areas.. DR spent a lot of time here trying to get followers online while living cheaply, as many do. He kept to himself and no one paid much attention to him. He's certainly no engineer. Seemed to me to suffer from self absorption.

This guy (DR) is a marketing wiz. He just looks for channels (gcn, l39gion, gc performance etc) and says something that can people can react to. Depending on how you reply to it, that's his nature. That gives him multiple followers. It's strange but he seems like a bad politician that still gets voters for outlandish comments.

In the court case i talked through no, he was the alleged victim - but, he was clearly pathologically lying and it is nuts that SAPOL actually brought that to trial - believe me prosecution and the arresting officers would have got some backlash over that - there was not enough there to even compile a court file, his statements contradicted visual evidence, video, lack of witness statements, on and on - that was train wreck for SAPOL and lost cases like that are followed up on. Re oh so, so, so, so many other things - i am not sure - i think he has settled some out of court - but do you need a conviction on everything to see what he is?
Ie - he has maliciously lied to hurt the integrity of ZFC by saying he was blocked by me for asking questions about data accuracy. Will he be convicted of anything? No. Is he is a pile of human garbage for doing such a thing - yes.
And what he has done there is about 0.1 out of 100 on the scale re so many horrific things. If you are cool supporting him for such whether or not he has a conviction - really thats on your own character.

He has many, and i think most of them have quite a long name! But also - many people have some form of a mental illness /condition - but are still morally great people doing their best battling along with a lifelong challenge. Sometimes i think very bad people get a bit of pass because they have X. But a person who frequently and knowingly (and enjoys maliciously doing so) harming their fellow humans - sadly the age of the computer has enabled cancers like him to reach out and harm oh so many more than pre this era.... pro's and cons to everything!

If you are ok supporting such people because they give you some entertainment - thats on you. I would put to you that in the big wide world of you tube, you could not support someone like him because you could find someone else who was entertaining, and with information you can actually place trust in vs being lied to for malicious purposes, and unless you then take the time to investigate everything he says to work out if he is bullshitting you or not - you will get caught believing crap / passing on crap to others.
