Bose has always been popular with the masses. Cerwin Vegas has always felt like part of a club that knew better. In process of setting up a media room in my basement and it's time to start rockin the CV's again. Been too long. Want something better than the sound bars deliver.
Dude when you mentioned parties in the 80's, 90's ...I knew we had a lot in common all the rich or spoiled kids had the cerwin vega killers at the parties and I never forgot how great they sound...I said one day I'm going to get a pair , well just so happens I ordered a pair , should be here Saturday
I used to visit stereo shops back then just to rock the Cerwin Vegas and dream of the day I could afford them. My first purchase after getting my first real job was a pair of CV speakers. Still have them and they still sound great 30 years later.
I was one of those guys in the 90's blasting my 12" Cerwin Vegas at parties. I was working at McDonald's and Kohls. It probably took months for me to save enough but bumpin was pretty high on my list of priorities back then
I had a pair of JBL A180S They are. nice, but when I hooked up a pair of SL-12's it was like where in hell did that great bass come from? I was lisnin to Eagles Lyin eyes an I tell ya it was amazing what those 12 inch woofers could do. My neighbor thinks I have a piano as those 15 inchers really make the pianos longest strings sound like they are in ur living room. Beethoven would really dig his Moonlight Sonata played thru my SL-15's
I have a set of those, powered by a Crown XLi2500, it's 500wpc @ 6 ohms. They freakin' thump, and sound great. I'm old school too, graduated in '89, I love that big 3-way sound. My wife allowed me to upgrade a couple years ago and as soon as I saw them I knew they were what I wanted. I've owned Vegas in the past, currently own a set of VS-100s. I was gonna buy some old ones but for the living room we decided on brand new. Love them, and to be honest, I think they sound just as good or better than most comparable CVs I have heard over the years. That's saying a lot because I am a huge CV fan.
I'm sure they sound great. I was just talking to somebody about how it didn't seem like anyone used real speakers these days. I haven't had a real stereo set up in years either. Everybody has sound bars or a bluetooth set which doesn't sound as good. Cool to see you going old school.
They look so good in that room! I have a pair of LS-12's and first used in my 9ftx9ft bedroom for the better part of a year. I couldn't get what I wanted out of them due to the room. I have since moved and now have a living room for them and its a crazy difference! I also used to run my CVs off a Sony AVR, all receivers say 100w/channel but I know thats not true. So I did some research and scrounged some funds to purchase a Crown XL1500 amp. Now the CV LS-12s make my windows vibrate. Up to 450wpc in stereo! forget the neighbors. I would highly recommend running an amplifier, not just for more headroom but more punch and making those CVs come alive!

A very live room w echos all.over. then again too much absorbing material big drapes carpet cozy stuffed sofa get an Equalizer to tune the system to the room.
I bought a set of these back in 2001. Spent the better part of 10 years being abused as my practice speakers for DJ'ing and home theater. I've reconed one of them and replaced the tweeter in another. They still sound great. Previous home owner put a rockwall in the lower level of my house. I floated a new dry way ceiling and had to rest it on the stone. The bass pressure from these speakers and my 400x2 crown amp will literally slap the drywall off the stone. Great purchase. I bought mine because I remember my buddies dad owned a set of cerwins that were from his college days. He was probably pushing 50 when I knew him.
I have a pair of CV about the same age as yours. They're 12s tho. Got 'em from Circuit City lol. I need to replace a tweeter in one of them. Any tips? Where, or what to buy? Thanks and rock on!

On a side note they used CV speakers in the movie earthquake in the 70s and actually put a net over the audience to catch anything falling off the ceiling of the pantages theater

I used to own a pair of 15" Cerwin Vegas back in the late 90's and bought a pair of B&W 805 Matrix and used the CV as a speaker stand. Once I hooked up the B&Ws I never hooked up the CV ever again. The sound was so much more detailed and accurate and the Image was very clear and defined compared to the Cerwin Vegas. I also had a 12" B&W Sub with them and it sounded way better than the 2 Cerwin Vegas 15" woofers. The B&W sub went way lower (18 Hz) than the Cerwin Vegas ever can. Once you hear a real pair of speakers with a real subwoofer you will never go back. The popular name for Cerwin Vegas are "Fart Boxes"

Beautiful simple system. In my experience if you pull them further away from the back(or is it front?) wall, it really brings out the deepest bass tones, more weight to them(in my case at least, rooms are different), and also less boominess. I have mine about 45cm away from the wall atm.
They are also too close together. You need to move them further away and expand the soundstage for greater ambience to fill the room. I know, again the wife.
you´re totally right ,i have only a stereo system conected to the tv, and when cars sound loud or weapons fired one almost jumps from the couch ,it´s a 74 pioneer ES-2000 bought in japan it had matrix 4 that with a extra pair of speakers made what in early 80´s av receivers called surround it mixed in two speakers a litle of each side on the other, also have some cerwin-vega, from a series that the wood was laquered or something close to it and each cost me in Spain ,in a promotion what today is 1.000€ ,this in 95 or 94 and the biggest i´ve seen .I had bought in 93 a complete new ES system from sony with the pre and power amplifier 55es(not knowing the first letters of the reference)but sold it all in 95 to buy from nakamichi a stasis power amplifier with everything else ,refering to every component for the price i had sold the sony ES takin`the power and pre that sounded excelent and didn´t gave me any problem as it happened with the cd player and the engine from the cassette deck, it was a direct drive, people say that those litle speakers or even the towers type had better sound but no other types releases a deep sound with this traditional speakers design
Put some sound deadening material in them. Mine came empy and i thought they sounded boomy. I literally stuffed an old couch cushion inside each one and it tightened up and actually increased the low end.
Looks like a fun system. I'd suggest some carpet on the floor in front of them at least. it looks like you have hard surfaces everywhere. A little bit of deadening goes a long way. Then again if you love the set up don't change a thing.
You can very easily use Cerwin Vegas in a home theater system...my front mains are a set of Cerwin Vega RE38 and for rear channels I'm using a set of Cerwin Vega 200SE...you need power (either a high end receiver or external amp) to really enjoy them though...especially the big ones
I use SL 15s in front and Sony SSCS towers for rears, I love the Sonys so don't need to upgrade them. I have a set of VS 100s I was considering swapping them out with though because the sensitivity is a closer match. I bought those Sonys for my surround system fronts originally, and they were great but I wanted more power up front. The problem is the Sony's are really great for music and it seams they are being wasted using them for rears. I have a couple different systems set up so I'll get it straightened out. I like changing stuff up every now and then anyway.
I have considered buying a set of these but I am truly an old school basshead and I really enjoy my D9s but once the rest of my house is remodeled and finished up here I believe I will give the sl 15s a go in one of my other rooms.
Then my friends think I'm showing off with Two Receivers in my computer room and in my Den. Most New mid-ranged 5.1 Receivers don't have the Ummpf for Large Speakers. I too have an Old School Stereo Receiver fetish LOL! I have New School 5.1 in my computer room and 5.2 Denon in my Den and a Harmon Kardon 246. But I have TWO old school JVCs that are HIGHLY underrated. These are 778 and an older 717. The JVC 919 was way the hell over powered. Again, I never got to push much past Old School 50 to 65 Watts but Note, that is not some BS PMO crap! I loved my Roommate's Pioneer 1010 that sounded just like his 1280 (Being a loan shark he acquired 6 receivers) before Top shut him down.. I sold my Kenwood Super 11 and only wished I had it for its current value. After there were about 70 Receivers in my battalion, most of us came to the conclusion that anything over over 125 watts per channel was wasted (Panzer Kaserne 1982)? You were either killing your ears, blowing out speakers or getting complained about.
yeah, as long as you're not goin' 90%, you should be ok. CW's are much more efficient than they used to be. The ideal amp should have 200+wps on tap for these. CW's are the cool kid's of the speaker world imo ^^ still got mine! Altho I use my Eris monitors more as a daily thing now, the Cerwin's just don't sound nearly as good as lower listening levels, but when you want to feel it...ON POINT!
As far as I'm concerned, you can't beat the traditional floor speakers like these here. You really don't need more channels if you just like stereo. Imagine watching Star Wars on that system with that TV. Awesome.
I use mine for my surround fronts, I use Sony SSCS towers for my rears, movies are awesome. I have a sub but it is totally pointless with these. My source is an Onkyo TXRZ820 receiver, it has plenty of power, 120wpc 2 ch driven, but I have an large power amp just to drive the SLs for 2 channel music.
where i live they stoped selling cerwin vega´s speakers because of the regular 90´s series all menbranes separate them selves from the cone and no reason for that to haopen, with a more powerfull amplifier the sounds gets even better ,normally i have more power in the amplifiers i own than what the speakers demand and not hearing music that loud to day one can feel the deepness of the sound with more power for channel, same here i do like strong bass and i hear a lot ,rock music ,the reason why i bought them when new, mine never happen what to others happen with regular series ,the menbrane get loose
@@EverydayMan When I get some funds built up I'm going for some either D 7's or D 9's. My Yamaha RXV 992 could handle either one at 80 watts per channel and I can switch from 8-4 ohms with the flick of my finger. Got a nice pioneer 150 watt center speaker and a Yamaha YST-SW1500 sub, that I don't really need but is nice.

@EverydayMan The accent was a dead giveaway lol anyway my question to you is what amp do you recommend for these I hear crown amplifiers go great with these and should I lean more towards the vintage cerwin vegas or are the new just as good or better.
You say they sound "amazing"? I guess it doesn't take much to impress you when it come to music since you are referring to a made in China disposable receiver for audio quality. Have you ever heard a Pioneer a Maranz or a Sansui when they were made to actually sound good and of quality?
Sorry man, but I couldn't tell anything from that weak sounding Japanese Tiki bar easy listening stuff you played. I know ur country but don't you have any Rock N Roll like Megadeth or Metallica? I want to hear them PUNCH!
I have never heard good sound from a Cerwin Vega. They are just not high fidelity speakers. But even then, based on the video that room has so much audible echo that neither these nor any speakers will sound anywhere near their potential with all those reflections muddling up the sound. You should improve the acoustics of the room if you want to get more out of the speakers.
He actually needs a separate Pre amp and External Power Amp supply configuration in this set up to really push them. Yes, 200 W minimum. They might handle 800 watts peak per side. 🤫 🤫 😁 🗯
Those Cerwin Vegas are crap. Growing up back in the late 80's the Cerwin Vega's they had at Circuit City were legend. I had the 15's. That stuff they are making now in this video just a shell of the vintage stuff.
the SL serie is the worst serie ever made by cerwin vega. you say heavy ?. its the lightest 15" cv speaker i have ever had. you can no problem take one under each arm.. when you push them just a bit they smell like burned coils. old cerwin vega really take abuse. those sl dont.
@@EverydayMan they are super light compared to all other 15" cerwin vega. and yes i can lift it no problem with 1 arm. not easy by the size. but 75lbs is very very light for a 15 fullrange speaker.

you´re totally right ,i have only a stereo system conected to the tv, and when cars sound loud or weapons fired one almost jumps from the couch ,it´s a 74 pioneer ES-2000 bought in japan it had matrix 4 that with a extra pair of speakers made what in early 80´s av receivers called surround it mixed in two speakers a litle of each side on the other, also have some cerwin-vega, from a series that the wood was laquered or something close to it and each cost me in Spain ,in a promotion what today is 1.000€ ,this in 95 or 94 and the biggest i´ve seen .I had bought in 93 a complete new ES system from sony with the pre and power amplifier 55es(not knowing the first letters of the reference)but sold it all in 95 to buy from nakamichi a stasis power amplifier with everything else ,refering to every component for the price i had sold the sony ES takin`the power and pre that sounded excelent and didn´t gave me any problem as it happened with the cd player and the engine from the cassette deck, it was a direct drive, people say that those litle speakers or even the towers type had better sound but no other types releases a deep sound with this traditional speakers design
These rock
Yes they do!!
I got the old school cerwin vegas VS 150's....are these in your video better? Trying to decide if i should refurbish my VS 150's or buy new.
I think if I had old ones I would probably refurbish. I imagine the older cabinet would be better quality and with new speakers that would be awsome.
It is fun and it cranks!
You can very easily use Cerwin Vegas in a home theater system...my front mains are a set of Cerwin Vega RE38 and for rear channels I'm using a set of Cerwin Vega 200SE...you need power (either a high end receiver or external amp) to really enjoy them though...especially the big ones
I bought a crown anp for them and they sound amazing. I did a video on that too.
I ran her surround sound system and I love it. It happens to be. 2 15 inch cerwin Vegas. In the front. 2 12 inch cerwin in the back.
That sounds like a bad ass set up!
I now have them hooked to a crown 1502 and they pound. I did a video on that too.
always been my favorite choice of speaker. Great video bro
Thanks!!
The everyday man got this love the system even the receiver
Yep, I'm one of those college guys that had Cerwin Vegas way back. I don't get why they insist on having all their speakers black now.
I did another video where I hooked the to a crown 1502 and all I can say is wow!!
Yea, they look great and sound the same. Do you have an audio/video system?
Yes
As far as I'm concerned, you can't beat the traditional floor speakers like these here. You really don't need more channels if you just like stereo. Imagine watching Star Wars on that system with that TV. Awesome.
I use mine for my surround fronts, I use Sony SSCS towers for my rears, movies are awesome. I have a sub but it is totally pointless with these. My source is an Onkyo TXRZ820 receiver, it has plenty of power, 120wpc 2 ch driven, but I have an large power amp just to drive the SLs for 2 channel music.
Great system great speakers 👍👍
Thanks, I now have an amp on them and WOW!!
where i live they stoped selling cerwin vega´s speakers because of the regular 90´s series all menbranes separate them selves from the cone and no reason for that to haopen, with a more powerfull amplifier the sounds gets even better ,normally i have more power in the amplifiers i own than what the speakers demand and not hearing music that loud to day one can feel the deepness of the sound with more power for channel, same here i do like strong bass and i hear a lot ,rock music ,the reason why i bought them when new, mine never happen what to others happen with regular series ,the menbrane get loose
Did you read what you wrote before hitting Send? Lol
@@tommyg413 normally i don´t ,i´m at my job, and i´m portuguese ,from that country on the atlantic coast near Spain
I owned a pair of vs 150's in the 90's. My ears are still ringing yet. lol
I love my new SL-15s and my SL-25c...
Do you still like your SL speakers? There really isint much info out there on them. It’s a shame because they really are a fun speaker!
@@JR-ho5qm i do really like them
@@EverydayMan great to hear, me as well!
Purple walls? It must be a reflection of a colorful personality. Agreed, good sound is imperative, it's better to sound good than to look good.
I agree!
@@EverydayMan When I get some funds built up I'm going for some either D 7's or D 9's. My Yamaha RXV 992 could handle either one at 80 watts per channel and I can switch from 8-4 ohms with the flick of my finger. Got a nice pioneer 150 watt center speaker and a Yamaha YST-SW1500 sub, that I don't really need but is nice.
vegas are way underrated
I agree!
Just came across your channel, Definitely a new Subscriber You are my brother from another mother LOL Bottom Line Cerwin Vegas Old School or newer versions? just plan kick ass!!! I still have my original VS120s from my high school days, got them refoamed put a slow 2.5 fuse in them, Running a Harmon Kardon 125 amp. and ill tell yo what these puppies sound Phenomenal.. Have a great Day Respect, your friend Ice Man👍
I love them, now I'm running an xls 1502 with them and they are banging!!
What audio visualizer are you using in this demo on your TV? I'm interested in it.
It's a youtube video. Just search bass test.
I run xls215 with crown xli3500. Blew the fuses. They only do 300w rms and 500w peak so overpowerd them just abit😂
I was that guy dragging these around to parties back in the day, cops were going to show up no doubt
Really, as a former owner of some "tech shit," Klipsch RP6000fIIs, RP-500SAs, RP-504C, and RP-402s. As a kid born, when 3 way 7:39 speakers, except for the Altec VOTT stuff.
The stuff created an interesting sound field, but it was really lacking when just plain listening to music.
The Cerwin Vegas have better tonal quality and dynamic range.
New subscriber. What amp are you using?
ruclips.net/video/Tj64flarGSQ/видео.html
I did a video on it.
why audio mono right speaker
Get a tube pre amp,I have twin 15 in tower speakers 😎💯
I am driving them w a Pioneer SX 950 or a Kenwood KR6030
I 1:34 like my SL-15S and SL45C.
Did cerwin vega stop making these? They're out of stock
They still have them on their website.
They good for movies?
That are bad ass for movies, the new top gun is better at my house than in theaters!
@@EverydayMani want to use them with a 100 watt amplifier per channel, What do you think about it? I see you are using this style of amp. Because as many as I asked them said that my amplifier was not strong enough for them.
@@so-oq5lm 100 will sound good. I hooked mine to a crown 1502 at 300 ways per channel. They sound amazing.
@@EverydayMan ok thanks
@@so-oq5lm ruclips.net/video/Tj64flarGSQ/видео.html
This is that video.
I run mine with a Emotiva XPA 2 x 300w power amplifier. Imo a minimum is 300w to get out the best of these beasts. But sounds nice in your video. 👌👍
I have since added a crown xls 1502 and they sound amazing!!
Ok, great 😀👍
I have the emotiva pt100 preamp a300 amp do you think it will do the sl 15s justice?
I'm powering 2 pairs of DX9's with 2 crown xli1500s at 900w each lol. Its like living in a Nightclub🙉🙉
Very nice
Are they like the xls?im not a fan of newer cerwins after 2002 when they moved to asia
Dont relly like the sound of them its to cloudy big fan of the at-15 and dc and much more old school
These Don't sound clougy at all to me. They are similar to the xls. They have different tweeters for sure.
@@EverydayMan nerver heard sl but i have heard xls and im not a fan i have had cls,ve,v-f and these are cheap made china speakers cant compare to dc-15 and and dc1515
👍🏻🔈 CerwinVega!
There is no replacement for size when it comes to sound. Where the hell are the CERWIN VEGA dealers these days? BTW, I have the INTEGRA DTM 5.9 receiver (the sister receiver to the ONKYO TX8555.
Nice
I consider "old school" the CW AT-15's, or D-9's ^^
I believe what he means is that this is an old school type of a system, like they used to be back in the good old 80s and 90s. Simple and awesome.
Ya, he means old school type of system with an old school 3-way box speaker design.
Where did you get the download on the tv.
It's a youtube video. I just searched bass test.
Sorry, using spell texting. I love my surround sound. I have 215 inch. Cerwin Vegas. 2 12 inch cerwin Vegas. 500 Watt cerwin Vega subwoofer. And a 4 Speaker Sir win Vega. Center channel.
That sounds "pun intend" freaking awsome!!
You from Louisiana?
Yes
@EverydayMan The accent was a dead giveaway lol anyway my question to you is what amp do you recommend for these I hear crown amplifiers go great with these and should I lean more towards the vintage cerwin vegas or are the new just as good or better.
@@hulksmash8660 I have a crown amp video. I think these new speakers rock.

@EverydayMan Thanks for the feedback man you've been a great help!
is there a way to get in touch with you?
Everyday man on Facebook
You say they sound "amazing"? I guess it doesn't take much to impress you when it come to music since you are referring to a made in China disposable receiver for audio quality. Have you ever heard a Pioneer a Maranz or a Sansui when they were made to actually sound good and of quality?
@exenx2995 that disposable reciver I've been having for 20 years. I do now have them hooked to a crown amp. They do indeed sound amazing to me.
Add a power amp. You'll be amazed.
I did and I am, I did a video on the crown amp with them!!
@@EverydayMan I'll have to search for that video. Funny, I was going to suggest a crown amplifier. I use the xli 1500 to power my Vegas
Dang 550 a piece? Everywhere else they want 799 a piece..u got a deal..i want a set..but pricey
I put a link to them in the description. Check them out.
Sorry man, but I couldn't tell anything from that weak sounding Japanese Tiki bar easy listening stuff you played. I know ur country but don't you have any Rock N Roll like Megadeth or Metallica? I want to hear them PUNCH!
RUclips won't monetize if I play that...
It's got a lot of echo for sure, thanks for the advise.
Way underpowered get a high quality stereo receiver giving 200 watts RMS a side minimum they will handle no problem
Thanks for watching!
the SL serie is the worst serie ever made by cerwin vega.
you say heavy ?. its the lightest 15" cv speaker i have ever had. you can no problem take one under each arm..
when you push them just a bit they smell like burned coils. old cerwin vega really take abuse. those sl dont.
These things are 75lbs each and are huge. I don't think you'll be taking one under each arm lol
@@EverydayMan they are super light compared to all other 15" cerwin vega. and yes i can lift it no problem with 1 arm. not easy by the size. but 75lbs is very very light for a 15 fullrange speaker.
@@EverydayMan My 18" Velodyne sub weighs only 110lbs...
100 watt reciever/400 watt speakers 🤔
I have ordered a crown xls 1502 and will be doing another video when it comes in.
Crown is good! I run a crown with a set of Vs150
I can't figure out why people who kill animals why do they hang them on their walls I just don't get it it's stupid is that show how tough you are or that you're able to kill animals I don't get it
It's not about being tough. I like to admire their beauty and remember the time I spent hunting them. To each his own, though. I hunt land that was passed down to me by my father and is special to me.
Pods lhov
too much echo in the room!
No doubt
