The dogs are way happier outside, letting themselves get buried by snow. The MRIs are the civilian version of the Norwegian Arctic Field Ration (REAL) made by DryTech in Norway. The only difference between the civilian and military meals is that the civilian bags are orange. (Base Camp Food is the UK importer). The Norwegian Arctic MRE is widely considered to be the best (and tastiest) on Earth, so much so that civilians use them for the practicality and taste when camping/climbing/multiday skiing etc. DryTech's secret lies in the fact that not only do they taste natural, but when rehydrated the fish/meat/vegetables etc. get back their natural chewing consistency. Well worth a try (as are their energy drinks and -bars that are found inside the military ration as well (alongside chewing gum, coffee, nuts, raisins and the typical "goodies"). Both taste almost shockingly natural and fresh. Excellent series BTW 👍

6:38 the dogs stay outside. they are unbelievably conditioned (and breed) for these conditions. the way they stay uprigt like at 5:26 means thay are not struggeling at all. If it gets colder, they will curl up like a ball, with their bushy tails covering them, and basicly go into hibernation, only interupted when they are checked on and fed, and will actually use the snow as insulation and protection against the wind.

I had the priviledge of meeting Alfred in Sisimiut when I lived there. Really nice guy. Still drove hos dogsled until 2021/22 but then sold the dogs and I believe moved to Denmark the same time I moved back home. He was very proud to have been the first Greenlander in Sirius, and rightly so.

What people forget is that these people, were chosen because they are specially suited to be in such a situation.
So when they are on the brink of death, the rest of us would have died a long time ago.

As long as the dogs are sitting up, they aren't troubled. They can curl up and let themselves snow in, and have there own little micro igloo under the snow.

I remember the Sirius Patrol having a stand at a large job fair more than a decade ago. Their MRE are basically a cardboard box the size of a midsized the cardboard boxes you use for moving filled mostly with canned foods and large chocolate bars. The dog food bricks can also used as an extra source of energy and protein in the human food.

I thing the Danish Sirius is the only permanent state (military) operated dog sled patrol in the world, so being a Dane is a must. The closest to what they are doing, is to go to Greenland and take a sled trip with locals or to join the Canadian dog sled competition...

The dogs survive outside. As I commented on the last video, their fur insulates so well that the snow does not even melt on them. Worst I tried was -32 and blizzard, dogs did not even go into their small doghouses. Only when it rains.
The fan they use for dragging on the hard-packed snow is a Greenlandic speciality. It gives more power, but only functions on hard-packed snow (which it always is in Greenland) and where there are no trees, bushes, etc (of which there are none in Greenland). Lyn the dog who does not want to run with the others, has probably been beaten up by George (the one that growls at him) and thus is afraid of running in the pack. That is the disadvantage of the fan. And I have seen a team Greenlandic dogs fight with blood spurting everywhere; a Pitbull would not survive ten seconds- Greenlandic dogs are so incredibly tough you cannot believe it. At that occasion, the frightened and lagging one eventually jumped back at the wrong time and got run over by the sled with three adults on it, none the worse for wear.
And yes the guys are fit. They also lose a lot of weight on the trips. And you are right Greenland is breathtaking. Every day when I walked to work I would have to stop and just admire a view, and in the mountains is the only place in the world I ever feel small. Your Marines do not get to go places like that either. You have to be from the Danish Monarchy. or Iceland, Icelanders can join the Danish military.
