Just a thing I think you might find funny.
When the guy is talking about Røde snoring loudly, the direct translation would be "Haul cod ashore" ('hive torsk i land')

The 1-2 mm is correct, but he is talking about the ice 100-200 meters away from their tent. So the ice right at the tent is obiously thicker, but still it’s a huge problem, because the ice can change quickly.

This series is some of the best production I have seen on Danish tv.
The Sirius patrol had to carry the camera man with his gear. He had no extra sled or snow mobile. He went through the same training and journey as the crew did. He did an absolutely incredible job of capturing the beautiful harsh conditions they went through. Without ever making him seen. He slept with the guys in their 2 man tent, I got the feed end of. Kept his batteries for his equipment close to his body to keep them safe and warm.
    Insane achievement

They use dogs because you can't eat a snowmobile

and then you have to remember the dogs are not pets You have to look after them but you also have to go hunting It's the only thing that keeps you alive out there

The 1-2mm translation was correct. Don't know if he meant centimeters, but gotta take him at his words I guess. 1-2mm can hardly be called ice anymore.

I takes 9 cm before the police will allow us to go skating on it, so... yes, 1-2 mm is not ice. It's just a crispy surface 😱

Our King Frederik the Tenth, in the year 2000 (then Crown Prince Fredrik) was on a civilian dog sled expedition, from Qaanaaq in Northwest Greenland, north of Greenland and down in Northeast Greenland to Daneborg, a trip of 2,800 km. There was one to experience the area, and two to help celebrate the Sirius Sledge Patrol's 50th anniversary. The Crown Prince traveled with a cameraman and four old Sirius men, and the expedition was called "Expedition Sirius 2000". He is the only Crown Prince/King in world history to have done this

When you see how the teams interact with each other through the series. You really see how the people doing the selection for Sirius are on point, the mindset and the training of these guys is mind blowing.

And importantly, have good chemistry. You can complete all the training perfectly and still be sacked if you don't fit on the team. This is something about Sirius that differs from the Jaegers and Frogmen, where you're more or less guaranteed a job if you pass satisfactorily, and actually makes joining harder since it's something you can't control. At the end of selection, everyone have to write down a name they don't want to be with, and if same guy keeps showing up, he's out. A former Siriusman said it was important that everyone on the team are either very similar or very different, so you don't end up with one guy being an outsider.

Yes they are, it’s amazing how great they are and close they become and work so well in a team

My dad uses that for his military dog. Is as I understand some sort of "chocolate bar" a energy bar. Its very very useful and gives a huge amount of energy to the dogs. I saw they gave a whole bar out. My dad usually gives a small peace, so that just shows what amount of energy those dogs need. Wow 😊

People have to know that those small dogs are not real Greenlandic sleed dogs. The real ones are double size. And not as "petty"

The police in my Danish home town says the ice has to be 90 millimeter thick, before we can scate on it.
Half a ton on sledge 😱.... on 1-2 millimeter.

    • @CombatReadyHQ
      @CombatReadyHQ  3 месяца назад

That makes sense you want a good amount of thickness for it to be safe.

I will say that ice thickness isn't unilaterally equivalent. Very dense ice formed in extreme colds over long time is a lot stronger than the typical winter laketop ice and such.
