Push them lows Lil bruhs!! Drop your jaw and push as much air as you can as fast as you can. Y'all sound solid! I appreciate the fact that both of y'all are playing both parts, since it's only two of y'all. Quality over quantity for sure ✊🏾✊🏾
As a young aspiring sousaphone player, i dont inderstand how people can play so loud, ive been at this for going on six hears and can hardly ever be heard
Whenever you play loud, play as loud as you can and stay just in control of the sound, and keep doing that and eventually you will be able to go louder.
How do you play this loud and like this I’ve tried and it never works, might be because I have braces. I’m also on a Yamaha Fiberglass sousaphone with plastic so idk
TheRandomWolf Fiberglass and metal can both be played at a VERY loud level with precision and tone quality. It takes more than to just try to play this way every once in a while. To be honest, I got good at it just by playing as loud as I possibly could for a while (for fun) and my lips got used to it, to where I could control very loud volumes like these guys. I play baritone/euphonium but it’s the same concept with any brass instrument when it comes to volume control.
Sealio Yeah I’ve been getting more loud but I think I just need to use more air when marching because it can take a lot out of me. I can play louder than the other sousas but there is only three others. Thanks for the comment
They seems louder here than they would on a field. Though they are playing loud. Look at how low the ceiling is and how small of a room they're in. Do musical breathing exercises and find a place where you can practice being very loud. Try to keep your tone and pitch consistent while holding out full notes starting as quiting as you can and gradually getting up to fff then gradually work you way back down to as quite as you can go. Do this with a tuner out. You don't want your tone or playing ability or pitch to be affected by playing loud. Play your warm ups and exercise at diferent volumes and always play the dynamic contrasts, when they're written dramatic play them as such. Go for walks and runs and workout to get stronger lungs, this helped me alot. Its all about airflow and control. Its all about your lungs and diaphragm. These guys are huffing and puffing and throwing out their cheeks in very separated lines of accented music. I don't think they would be able to play eigth note runs at this level and tbh they sound pretty rough in the recording.
2 things 1, how do you play so loud, I struggle with that quite a bit on sousa and 2, I have been told that if you dont puff out your cheeks you will have even stronger air.
The Best Jarjar Binks A sousaphone literally a marching Tuba, so it can be considered as such. If you call a concert tuba a sousaphone however, that would be incorrect.
Do lots of breathing exercises, with and without the instrument! It really helps! I have been playing tuba for 5 years along with saxophone- it takes practice to get a true loud and clear sound, so if you aren't there yet, don't worry! I've been playing a while, and I'm still not there on clarity with sousaphone specifically. Then again, my college has pretty crappy sousas lol 😂 Good luck! ☺️
One of the upper classmen at my highschool back in that day would say everyone foucus too much on being loud. Make sure you're heard but have a good tone. It sounds far better to have your section well in tune and play with a good tone than just having them splat and blat like these guys. If your section has similar tone and is in tune your sound will sync togther and create a better experience. You can do that while being loud.
If you get a chance you should listen to the Carolina crown horn section tuning there is not a single instance where they are playing out of control it is absolute and complete control.
@@chrisdean9151 Oh yeah, back in highschool I loved listen to dci. I will check it out. I saw other commenters saying how those guys in the vid are in a show band. I suppose their tone is a style choice by their band leader. Plenty of black schools have that style.
