That type of structure is a death trap, especially with that chimney right there. The big issue with "Hole in the Ground" habitats is they are perfect places for heavier than air gasses like CO2 to collect. If you were to build one of these it either needs to be on a hilltop or a steep hillside so you can make a positive flow vent at floor level to the outside to prevent the buildup of gasses inside the dugout. This chimney being so close is dangerous because a smoldering fire in an early morning stagnant air condition can result in the smoke cooling rapidly and drifting right back down into the hole. This would not end well. While the common defense to this is that "It is always windy here so this won't happen," My answer to that is - it only takes once.
@@AgnesMariaL Heavier than air gasses like CO2 accumulate in low points. The entire dwelling is a pit in the ground with no place for any gases that might accumulate to escape. The fireplace is just one potential source of gasses in a structure like this. Gases from rotting vegetation can come out of the soil as well. Heavier than air gasses are all toxic to humans and all flow like water, pooling in low areas. As a firefighter you should be aware of the danger of bad air in enclosed spaces and pits without proper ventilation, especially in low points. We have labor laws in most developed nations that regulate the depth of pits for workers without active ventilation to keep workers from walking into a pit full of a toxic gas and passing out. Even a food cellar can become deadly if not ventilated. Mine explorers can kick up CO2 just by walking through stagnant water on the ground. The air being okay on their way in and then the released CO2 rises high enough as they descend that they are overcome and never get out again.
@@socket_error1000 I do not disagree. However, she only sealed the roof, and left the sides of the building as initially constructed, with gaps between all the logs. The likelihood of any gases from the fireplace entering the hut is near zero to begin with, unless an unfavorable strong wind happens to blow through, but the structure itself, being unsealed aside from the roof and clay foundation, allows for airflow/ventilation.
@@AgnesMariaL It is a pit in the ground. It does not matter if there are holes in the roof or wall if the entire thing is under ground level. Heavier than air gasses can still collect in the pit. This is basic health and safety and the danger of pits would have been something you should have been taught as a firefighter. It is a serious risk to first responders as more than one would-be-rescuer has seen an unconscious person in a ditch or pit and jumped in to help them only to become a victim themselves.

I'm pretty sure that this is in Vietnam. That soil has a unique composition, and "dugouts" are rather common. Once you get about a foot into the earth, it's softer and easier to dig out. This is done during the dry season. One thing? Pick your spot for a dug-out carefully...and make sure it isn't in an area that water runs through... ;-) for obvious reasons.

Once you acclimate to proper stature and movement the tool becomes just an extension of your body. I don't dig much anymore but often practice the soft side of the art.
Note that it has to be a warm and tropical climate. She's gone to a lot of trouble, to build her cook-stove outside her sleeping area. This is pretty much a giveaway, that she knows she won't need it to keep warm with. Rather the opposite. I think the whole reason she's building in the ground, is because it's cooler, and you can sleep better.
Amazing work. As for the CO2 comment, this is obviously a hot, humid climate where the fire would only be lit for cooking and thus only limited amounts of the gas would collect in the pit before it is reabsorbed into the air. Note also that the bed is raised well above the main floor, in a seperate structure that receives plenty of ventilation under the eaves of the roof and the pit itself is entirrely open to the sky.
Very cool build. My only concern would be that eat in area roof. I know it's hard packed, undisturbed clay, but doesn't seem like it has a lot of support for the 14-16" or so above your head. That has to weigh a ton. Be careful there and keep up the interesting work. Thank you.

Compelling viewing. I never see any wildlife. I hear birds. No insects. After seeing our host cooking I'd think twice about coming into camp without announcing my presence. I always wonder if it rains where you are and how does camp look afterwards? Thanks for demonstration. Peace.
I've seen her trap and cook a rabbit a couple times.
Judging by that dry asf soil shes working with, it hasn't rained in ages.
Exactly...also I haven't seen her hit a tree root yet...or even a rock. Where is she?
What about when it rains how will the water go? Looks very nice but I be afraid of ending up with a pool
I am wondering about the long torrential rains they get that hole in the ground is going to become a pond.
We love you and I admire your 🏠😊
Come rainy season? Also bugs get into the house too easily. Not sealed very well. Over all , very nicely done !
So much energy my goodness ❤
Какая сильная и умелая девушка! Я в восхищении.
I've watched you build several of these now. Do you sell them? Can't imagine just leaving them.
So, how do you deal with rain, torrential rain, flooding?😮
素晴らしいです。私は小千谷市って名の雪深い日本に住んでいます。私と父は真冬に雪を使って居住空間を作ってます。いつかコラボしたい。
Indomie geprek 😍🤤🤤
Love from Indonesia ❤❤❤
loved watching this
I enjoy watching your content, it gives me ideas for my future projects. I was just wondering, Are these locations your properties? because I'm not sure if I could do that to any random locations.
