- I've bought a lot of whiskey that was absolutely worth the money spent. This bottle had a lot of hype. It was definitely on my radar. And when I got the call from a local source that I could purchase this bottle for $500, I jumped at the opportunity. Well, that was the worst $500 I've ever spent on a bottle for sure.

The higher the price of the bottle, the more potential for disappointment.
This is why I have a personal price limit of $100 a bottle, and it's honestly pretty rare for me to spend more than $70.
It works for me.
Guess here in Australia 70 is a wt 101 so we can justify paying higher prices due to the crazy price rises

I always do the “how many bottles can I buy for X price the super expensive bottle is”
Another great example of the hype surrounding some of these rare bottles. In addition to that, this is also the value of these types of RUclips channels. You guys get bottles and samples that a lot of us can’t get and it really helps us to determine whether these types of purchases are worth it. Thanks for the video.
At 94 proof I almost expected this result. I bought it anyway for just this reason.
I’d find it tough to spend $500 on a bottle of anything other than an absolute bucket list bourbon, and I might not spend it on that one, either. Thanks for taking one for the team.

Price and quality don't always go together. Unfortunately, with expensive bottles, it can be difficult to try before buying. I've bought a few $200+ bottles blind, and I've had good luck, but I look for reviews, and I know what sorts of things I like. In this price range, I avoid highly allocated stuff because it is rarely, if ever, worth the price.
That is why I do them.
That's nuts. Didn't even know about the Daniel weller bottle.
I want that Uncle Nearest shirt. I wish they would start branching out with different products. I am not a big Weller sipper but will begin grabbing bottles when I see them out here on the west coast.
Many episodes back, you talked about FOMO which made me step back and rethink my approach to building a selection. This episode has me afraid to win the sample pack because it will forever solidify my pledge to never purchase an overhyped bottle.
The world could use a little more of that mentality!
Good to see Wes back in a video (although I'm sure it was filmed a while back). It's crazy to me that the Daniel Weller is that expensive and barely beats out Weller Special Reserve in a blind. The secondary price on Daniel Weller makes it even worse.
You're right, we film episodes in bulk so this one was before Wes quit drinking.
I have always enjoyed the WSR. Hard to find so when in other states I look for it at retail. God bless.

I’m with Wes … I’d take a case of Special Reserve but I am NEVER spending $500 for one bottle

Can’t see paying 500 bones for a single bottle, especially Daniel Weller. Too many top flight pours that are MUCH cheaper and more available than this trophy bottle.
I spent a little more than that on a Boss Hog X and have no regrets. Would be nice to give the Weller a try!

Still haven't even seen a bottle here. Knew the msrp was higher but did not know it was that much higher.

I’m so glad you did the videos on this so I don’t have to hunt this! I spent $500 on an Appleton estate 17 year legend, it lives to the hype. I think BT saw the success of it and they thought they could do it too.

Some of the LTO that Buffalo Trace puts out are head scratchers. The MRSP on BTAC continues to be very low, but then they put out the Daniel Weller, Double Eagle Rare, and OFC at crazy price points. I think it is only a matter of time before they increase the prices on BTAC and Pappy.
I have done a lot of education on this in other videos. In short, they can not change the price of annual releases because they just borrowed 1.2 billion dollars to double the capacity of the distillery. Changing the price would affect the future demand they need to justify the expansion, so they only play games with LTOs.

I personally mitigate that risk by keeping my bottle purchases below $250, and the vast majority of those purchases below $100.
I know people love their weller products. However, i dont really care for them. The 107 and the full proof are good, but outside of those when i get any of the wellers for MSRP they go strait to my trade stash! I am more of the EH Taylor kind of guy!

That’s crazy price. I paid $80 for a bottle I just couldn’t drink. That’s was the most I’ve spent on bad drink.
