Your advice about the gasket is spot on. 10 years ago I took my Tissot watch to a jeweler in a mall. I asked if he could replace the battery. He said "no problem". Well, he did replace the battery and everything appeared fine. About 2 years later, my watch started acting up. Certain functions just quit. Then, the watch quit completely. Out of curiosity I opened it up to take a look inside. The gasket on one edge was folded over and out of position. Moisture and dirt had been getting inside ever since the battery was replaced. It took two years before the damage killed my watch. The watch was destroyed because I tried to save a few bucks by taking it to a non-professional in a mall. I won't do that again.
Had a battery replaced in a digital Seiko and when returned the gasket was sticking out the watch! At first I was like WTF, but the reason was that jeweler did not have a replacement gasket and by letting it sticking out I would know that the old gasket was overdue and I should not use the watch before a replacement was done. That was actually a professionel move I think.
I have the same Seiko Kinetic since 2009, and after this 12 years of heavy daily use it stills working without any capacitor change. I'm starting to think this watch is immortal :)
I have had my Pulsar Kinetic approx 12/13 years , it's worn everyday and as yet on the orignal capacitor! luckily we have a local watch repairer he has quoted me £25 to replace the capacitor.
The capacitor in my Seiko Arctura Titanium just died after 19 years of faithful daily service. Amen in the seals. Have a qualified watchmaker replace all the seals and pressure test the watch when servicing the capacitor. 👍👍👍☺️
I have owned a Seiko Titanium Kinetic watch for more then 26 years. Love the way it looks and feels on my wrist. I take it off at bedtime and put it back on in the morning. In my experience the capacitors in these watches last about 5 years before they start to go bad. My watch is currently at a watchmaker for its fifth capacitor. Past replacements were about $100. This time they are asking $220. These repairs exceed what I paid for the watch. No more. When this one fails it’s headed for the junk drawer.
try sitting it on a toothbrush charger until the second hand moves on its own with now winding/ shaking to charge and leave it over night, you've got nothing to lose
Great video, I have a Seiko kinetic sports 150 5M23-6A09 ,when i got it it already wasn't working it doesn't have any movement of the hands when winding it I assume the capacitor needs replacing but in videos i see of Seikos with dead capacitors the second hand ticks back and for when winding , Im not going to be able to repair it anytime soon so im just trying get a idea of what all its probably going to need
@bean_the_one_and_only The watch capacitor may need to be tested to determine if it's the cause of the issue. If that’s the case, replacing and recharging it should solve the problem. However, if that doesn’t work, the entire movement might need replacement. When you're ready for repairs, feel free to find us online at www.timesticking.com/watch-repair Take care!
I've had a Seiko Kinetic for nearly 20 years as ive just done a capacitor replacement, Crystal Renewal and a polish and it looks just like the day I bought it, great watch !
I've had my Seiko kinetic watch since 2016 with heavy use (practically worn everyday). The little metal pin that holds the band did break twice and the second time around I did forget the watch in my work bag for about 5 to 8 months. I honestly think the watch is immortal it just works.
Hi, I have a seiko kinetic. The watch stops while the stem is out for setting. Is this okay if I keep the watch stopped to reserve power to a kinetic watch?
Very good points,i would like to ask a question about my kinetic watch,it has the 5m43 movement which promises 14 day power reserve ,however in my experience it lasts way longer than that (almost 2 months) without wearing it.Does this indicate any damage in the movement?
@@muhamadaliffjamaluddin717 i think its okay but if the sound is loud and the rotor is touching something else inside i suggest you take it to a professional, the screw which holds the rotor might be a little loose.
Fun Fact: A Braun/ Sonicare rechargeable toothbrush dock can wake up sleepy caps in you old kinetic watch. I have my Grandfathers old Seiko 5M23, bought in '95 and has sat for almost 25 years. After long bouts of vigorous shaking to charge, the seconds hand would only tic for about 30 seconds before coming to a stop. I laid the watch my Sonicare powered toothbrush dock while being very carefully to set it a position that not slide/ move and start to charge. If positioned right (it takes some patience lol) the second hand should start moving from a dead stop after a few seconds of sitting on the brush dock. I left mine to charge overnight (6-8 hours). The watch was slightly warm to the touch in the morning when removing from the charger but has continued to keep consistent time for last 24 hours with very little wear in an attempt at a battery drain test. I plan to swap my apple watch ultra and go back a few decades. A little polish and she'll be good as new.
I just bought a seiko sun065 padi recently (3days ago) and it suppose to have +/-15 seconds per month but losing 1 minute a day. Should I get it serviced ? I just assumed I have to keep wearing it and get it fully charged since it's new
I have a AP Royal oak with kinetic movement it's been in a drawer for the past 4 years I started wearing it a few days ago it works fine on my wrist but it's dead when I wake up each morning I presumed the capacitor was toast but I've recently been told i need to wear it everyday for around 3 weeks and it should start holding its charge better I'm abit dubious has anyone any experience with this advice would be much appreciated
@Ncstarr Cool watch! So, either the capacitor is worn and can be tested - may need to be replaced OR the movement has issues. If you need assistance, send it over. www.timesticking.com/watch-repair Take care.
I bough my seiko premier kinetic perpetual 7 or 8 years ago... still working ... i will service it only if the capacitor dies... the saphire still looks 99.9% new even after very heavy use... the metal case is bombarded bent scratched ... such a contrast
Can you replace the capacitor with the new lithium ion battery being used in newer kinetic watches? Or is it not that simple and would mess up the watch?
I got an invicta from my grandpa before he died, kept it in a box for the last year, I recently sighed it up and tried to get it working again but it doesn’t hold a charge at all! I guess it’s time to take it in to get it repaired, and wear it more frequently, I was always scared to wear it because it’s such a valuable and irreplaceable watch but seeing your video made me realize I have to wear it to keep it alive changed my perspective on things
Thanks for posting this video. Finding it was timely for me as I was just about to pull the trigger on a Seiko kinetic ! I guess I'll stick with the autos.
Okay - HERE IS THE EASIEST WAY to wind your kinetic watch if you don't wear it every day - Works every time! Take your kinetic and wrap it thoroughly in dish towels or equivelent. Wrap it so that it is completely protected. Put it in your dryer on air dry (no heat) for one hour. Put other towels, etc. in there with it to further cushion it. The continual movement of rising and falling will charge it right up - while you watch a movie or something. Works perfectly, every time for me. Just trying to save folks a bunch of money, time and trouble. The tumbling action of the dryer is perfect - mimicking body motion throughout the day - and if it's properly cushioned there is absolutely no shock to the watch. No damage whatsoever. Try it.

Don't destroy the gasket, ok. But how often the capacitor should be charged, eg. how often this watch should be worn, in order to keep the capasitor functional?
It's a cool idea executed poorly. The seconds hand has that ugly quartz tick tok and doesn't flow like an automatic watch does. Doesn’t work with a watch winder, at least not for my Seiko Kinetic GMT, just not enough movement that simulates it being worn on a wrist with daily use. Just my experience.
Once In a while wear it while jogging.. it does the job. When you buy the watch make sure u wear it till it is charged fully.. father that once a week wear it while jogging. It does the job.
My father gave me a 50 y/o Seiko kinetic auto relay that "hadn't worked in decades". Took it to my Rolex AD since I was giving them a rolex to service. Seiko Kinetic is for the one watch man! Sorry guys. Seiko Kinetic is a no-go unless you only have one watch and walks it every day. My kinetic has been returned to Seiko in Munich for replacement of the capacitor. I have more watches and only wear it occasionally. That means it goes all dead. It takes several days to get it running properly again and you are not able to rewind it unless you shake it for several hours. I have given up on it though it is a beautiful GMT diver. Cannot recommend Kinetic. I think every one will regret unless you only have 1 watch and wear it all time
I bought a Lorus Kinetic in 2000. Still works fine and hasn't been worn that often (it even stopped last year, as I wasn't wearing a watch when working at home). They are generally very robust.
I gave up on kenetic watches because it is just too much requirement to have to wear them frequently. For someone with a collection, it is impossible. So now I just buy regular automatic watches since they just need a watch winder. Seiko kenetic are great watches...but at this point, I rather have a seiko automatic. Also replacing capacitor is a pain that even if you can change it, you have to find out if the watch has a 'reset' step after capacitor replacement. On mine, I had to charge it for 2 days and then do reset before it went back to per second jump instead of per 2 sec jump when capacitor is dead.

On mine, I had to charge it for 2 days and then do reset before it went back to per second jump instead of per 2 sec jump when capacitor is dead.
music and voice is monotonious to ear
