5:57 That was one of our trams! I'm very proud of Nottingham's tramway and I think we are very lucky to have one. I'd say we have the 2nd best tramway in the uk (next to manchester because theirs is bigger)
After a night of political chaos we welcome the warm comforting embrace of another excellent All the Stations video. A blustery episode to brighten my day.
Don't forget we political types were out in that weather on Mon and Tues! (Stop cheering out there.) Yes, I WAS impressed with the tram/canal shot as you seem to have so little time at each town.
I've been to Corby (not trying to rub it in!!). Corby in the rain - you're not missing much, hopefully it'll be brighter on your return. The cooling towers at East Midlands Parkway always turned a few heads even before they opened the station there!
5:25 Trivia - the y in Ye was originally a separate character in the alphabet (þ) that eventually dropped out of use. It's form slowly evolved to resemble a y, but it was pronounced like a 'th, so 'ye olde' would have been correctly pronounced as 'the olde'.
Note from the Pronunciation Police: "Ye", as in "Ye Olde Shippe" is correctly pronounced "the". Because until a long time ago the th sound was denoted by Y.
Thomas cook actually died in Leicester, He wasn't actually from there. First Thomas Cook package tour was from Leicester to Loughborough (My home town).
Shame you didn't jump on the Tram from Nottingham Station in to the centre and slab square as it is called locally, the old market square is the original location for the Nottingham Goose Fair. The current location for the fair is on the Forest Recreation Ground, also accessible by Tram, about a 5 minute journey.
So much for the direct service between Skegness and London which was promised in about 2010 but didn't happen. I know this because I had my 15 minutes of fame on the local news when this was being reported and was the reason for the refurbishment of Skegness station.
Seeing the inn in Nottingham reminded me of a pub in St Albans that I remember was argued to be the oldest in the country (from what I heard there was one other that disputed its claim and I can't remember if it was the one you went to here) called Ye Olde Fighting Cocks down by the Abbey (lovely building that you should visit if you get the chance, Vicki, it's got the 2nd longest nave in the country I think) and Verulamium Park (got some nice remnants of the Roman wall there). Their website says ~793AD but the Telegraph has it as possibly dating back to 973AD (apparently the first licence they have is from the 18th century which is why it's disputed). I think the general idea in the area is that it does date back that long, which doesn't really surprise me given the buildings and institutions that have survived this long in St Albans itself (the oldest school in Hertfordshire, for example - ~948AD). Anyway, I'll stop rambling on about St Albans and pubs now, just thought it was an interesting tidbit! Great video and series, always love seeing there's a new one out! :-)
Hi the series is great keep it up. I love when you show a map of the areas you are going to on your phone. 4:34. Can you please do more of that? Either as a full map at the start of the video or just as you do during the video.
I can't believe that I was within 100 meters of the legend with my house directly next one of the stations on the Nottingham - Skegness line. Only I moved here 2 years ago god dammit. Buy hey I live somewhere Geoff Marshall has been close to
Presumably different types of train are maintained at different types of depots, you won't find 'Pacers' that far south(?) I have a cold spot in my heart for 158s, feel cramped the 150s have a much better layout, but maybe reduced capacity.
When Vicki said a sprinter the train was actually a super sprinter train. Sprinters are formed of class 150s,class 153s,class 155s and class 156s. Super Sprinters are class 158s and class 159s
Love these videos. One point though. There is also an 'oldest pub' in St Albans (The Fighting Cocks), and also one in Chiddingfold, Surrey, called the Crown... I think that's what it's called. Don't ask me which the oldest one is, just pointing out that more than one pub makes that claim. Apologies for bring pedantic, but then I must be a bit of a geeky type to be addicted to this series right?
There are many "oldest inns in England". Another is the Bingley Arms in Bardsey between Leeds and Wetherby. It claims to date back to 953AD and has real priest holes (from a somewhat later period) up its chimney. www.bingleyarms.com/gallery-1617.html Unfortunately, it doesn't have a railway running anywhere near it (and I don't think it ever has done), so you're not going to see it on your trip.
I think you have a great channel. Today I noticed that Victoria waves like the Queen :) By the way if you are sick of the rain send it down our way Victoria, Australia we down here can always use more rain :)
ChrisInTheNorth I noticed they used one of the alternative arrangements of the theme tune for the first time. Slow arrangement because it rained, and you had a cancellation?
2:56 that is the right spot, that is where KR3 was found, the excavation was caught on Google streetview www.google.ca/maps/@52.6339717,-1.1366492,3a,22.2y,67.09h,88.27t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sZ5QiGwDUgYDcNA2STAGhPg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en
Did you make it to Corby? Is now a two track line rather than single with a four track line from Kettering to Bedford, better service, apparently, when completed but no new stations.
I wonder whether there is a train from Nottingham to Skegness (or vice versa) that stops at all three least used stations on the way (Bottesford, Elton & Orston, Havenhouse). Follow-up: are there any services calling at more than three least used stations?
when you go back through Nottingham to Bulwell and Hucknall, you can catch the tram which runs parallel to the train line. would you do that like you did in London?
Shortly after the bit about being on the same train for two hours, the editing made it look as if they kept on changing direction. Video taken from both side of the train I suppose.
They were only doing 4 main videos a week according to the Kickstarter project terms - other videos were done to Facebook Live or Periscope. I think Geoff's own channel might have some additional videos.
+All The Stations sorry, I know guys, but it was different, while nice, just less perky and not the usual (I love the usual theme tune)... Steve's music is awesome! Really totally impressed. (whispers: I see I'm not the only one who missed it)... S'okay I can go back to any previous episode to hear, then download when it's out (hopefully not just iTunes??)
Vicki: "The market opened in 1204" Geoff looks at his watch and says: "That means it's only been opened for an hour." Very good Geoff.
I don't know why that made me laugh so hard. Very well done Geoff! Great joke!
where was that??
@@americanrailfanner1519 2:05
Me to so funny
Don't encourage him :)
Sooo English. The weather. The pubs. The history. The delayed trains. The lush countryside. And Geoff and Victoria.
The dynamic duo.
5:57 That was one of our trams! I'm very proud of Nottingham's tramway and I think we are very lucky to have one. I'd say we have the 2nd best tramway in the uk (next to manchester because theirs is bigger)
Transparent Lemon Sheffield is great too, just very under subsidised😂
7 years on. Memories watching this as they came out
Another good ep you two! Good work on trying to stay optimistic inspite of the problems, most delays and gone-wrongs never happen on a sunny day!
I'm in love with your username xD
As I settle into bed on a winter's night, it's such a nice finish to the day seeing the next instalment of this series. :-)
Ian Anthony well you are describing somewhere like New Zealand
very rainy in sydney
An overcast and chilly Masterton, New Zealand
After a night of political chaos we welcome the warm comforting embrace of another excellent All the Stations video. A blustery episode to brighten my day.
John Vocking oh, the PM elections in the U.K. Must be miserable for you guys.
TheRyanHund I'm from America, I don't really know what I'm talking about
Don't forget we political types were out in that weather on Mon and Tues! (Stop cheering out there.) Yes, I WAS impressed with the tram/canal shot as you seem to have so little time at each town.
Its a real pity about the weather, Skegness is great when the sun is shining. Great job at trying to get the best out of the day guys :)
Leicester station has some good signs about its history and it a wonderful building
Now there's the Britain I always imagine, grey and dreary!
2:13 oh dear Geoff xD
I've been to Corby (not trying to rub it in!!). Corby in the rain - you're not missing much, hopefully it'll be brighter on your return. The cooling towers at East Midlands Parkway always turned a few heads even before they opened the station there!
Another great video guys! Really enjoying the adventure.
You two are such heroes!
5:25 Trivia - the y in Ye was originally a separate character in the alphabet (þ) that eventually dropped out of use. It's form slowly evolved to resemble a y, but it was pronounced like a 'th, so 'ye olde' would have been correctly pronounced as 'the olde'.
that look at the camera after the Thomas Cook sponsorship reference!
Possibly knowing now best not to be sponsored by Thomas Cook
Robert Lilley ha!
you stopped at Kettering, where I used to live, and now I live in Skeg-vegas, great job guys
I can't believe you came to my home town of Kettering!!!!!
Yes, but they got off!
I can't believe I missed them at Wellingborough!
I am so proud the train was also insanely delayed in Kettering. getting that realistic East Midlands train service.
I've parked on the space where Richard III was found. Wonder how much he was charged?
Note from the Pronunciation Police: "Ye", as in "Ye Olde Shippe" is correctly pronounced "the". Because until a long time ago the th sound was denoted by Y.
More accurately, the sound was written as the latter þ, called thorn, which looked very similar to y in some fonts, but fell out of use eventually.
Yeah. We know.
Thomas cook actually died in Leicester, He wasn't actually from there.
First Thomas Cook package tour was from Leicester to Loughborough (My home town).

Ham Street but they said 45 minutes when coming out the BBC offices.
Yay, Loughborough! I reckon that whoever sponsored that station must be pretty awesome, and oh, so handsome! ;-)
At East Midlands Parkway, the thing out the window was a power station
Weather wise, Tuesday was awful. You both looked cold, hard to believe it's June. Enjoyed your video.
I love Skegness but it always rains when I visit too. ☔
So much for the direct service between Skegness and London which was promised in about 2010 but didn't happen. I know this because I had my 15 minutes of fame on the local news when this was being reported and was the reason for the refurbishment of Skegness station.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds that the use of your train is delayed due to inclement weather funny.
What an absurd, but delightfully fresh excuse for 'not cleaning things'
Ah, another lovely soothing video to get lost inside:)
Seeing the inn in Nottingham reminded me of a pub in St Albans that I remember was argued to be the oldest in the country (from what I heard there was one other that disputed its claim and I can't remember if it was the one you went to here) called Ye Olde Fighting Cocks down by the Abbey (lovely building that you should visit if you get the chance, Vicki, it's got the 2nd longest nave in the country I think) and Verulamium Park (got some nice remnants of the Roman wall there). great feedback Harshil, noted!
agree ATS, liked that too! veey cool shot
+gobears6487 or very*! doh
Yes please. A great idea. Does anyone have a link to the map app I could use on my PC. I don't own a smart-phone.
www.projectmapping.co.uk/ I use their www.projectmapping.co.uk/Resources/TOCs%20AS%20v26%20June%202017.pdf map.
Amazing as always
I want the old music
Sorry for the storm, my fault, I was getting my decking re-laid and re-varnished.
I can't believe that I was within 100 meters of the legend with my house directly next one of the stations on the Nottingham - Skegness line. Only I moved here 2 years ago god dammit. Buy hey I live somewhere Geoff Marshall has been close to
Tip for Vicky: Pacer train numbers start with 14, Sprinter train numbers numbers start with 15.
Presumably different types of train are maintained at different types of depots, you won't find 'Pacers' that far south(?) I have a cold spot in my heart for 158s, feel cramped the 150s have a much better layout, but maybe reduced capacity.
Matthew Albery I prefer 156. They are very loud but nice to sit on going through the highlands.
"It's only been open an hour!" :: I Lol'ed.
When Vicki said a sprinter the train was actually a super sprinter train. Sprinters are formed of class 150s,class 153s,class 155s and class 156s. Super Sprinters are class 158s and class 159s

Chiddingfold! Been past there on my way to Littlehampton
Skegness is a long way from pretty much everywhere.
There are many "oldest inns in England". Another is the Bingley Arms in Bardsey between Leeds and Wetherby. It claims to date back to 953AD and has real priest holes (from a somewhat later period) up its chimney. www.bingleyarms.com/gallery-1617.html

I stand corrected in that point.
I think you have a great channel. Today I noticed that Victoria waves like the Queen :) By the way if you are sick of the rain send it down our way Victoria, Australia we down here can always use more rain :)
I love Vicki's rather winsome 'All The Stations' announcement just before the theme tune
ChrisInTheNorth I noticed they used one of the alternative arrangements of the theme tune for the first time. Slow arrangement because it rained, and you had a cancellation?
And the downbeat version of the theme tune, maybe reflecting the initial mood of the day.
Ah! Leicester my home town, How was it? Very rainy like always
Re Thomas Cook - don't forget Thomas Cook Airlines - the name is printed in huge writing on the plane
Do you think you could do a Nottingham trams transmission?
How did this happen? What a tramsition??
It's like the sad ending to EastEnders or Neighbours at the start 😀
you know some crazy stuff happened when the intro is the slow sad music...
East Midlands Parkway is next to Ratcliffe on Soar power station
What happened to Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and the Cromer lines?
Ditto ! Looking forward to see Brundall again ;)
Yes was looking forward to seeing my home patch!
Robbie Glow That's where I live! :-)
Great Video
Pacer spotting tip: they don't have bogies.
Why is Vicki "V Pipe" in the credits?
Shouldn't her name contain All The Letters?
2:43 It's really windy!
The Skegness Jolly Fisherman began life as a railway marketing character to promote travel to the town.
Incidentally, that statue was the first Richard the third ever to be polished
You are my heroes
I live in Nottingham and if you have a train at Platform 2, you need to have around 5 minutes if you want to walk
4:14 "We should've got Thomas Cook to sponsor us" *sly look to the camera*
Did you make it to Corby? Is now a two track line rather than single with a four track line from Kettering to Bedford, better service, apparently, when completed but no new stations.
Did u ever do Beeston,Attenborough,carlton
I wonder whether there is a train from Nottingham to Skegness (or vice versa) that stops at all three least used stations on the way (Bottesford, Elton & Orston, Havenhouse). Follow-up: are there any services calling at more than three least used stations?
You went to my station Nottingham! (but not the closest to me, Hucknall is)
ay! u came to kettering, my home town! I tried to meet u there and see u but didnt get there in time!
when you go back through Nottingham to Bulwell and Hucknall, you can catch the tram which runs parallel to the train line. would you do that like you did in London?
Big up Market Harborough! #Hometown
Geoff: Vicki, is it a pacer or a sprinter?
Vicki: (Level crossing barrier raising noises)
Vicki: Spirnter
Geoff I live in Kettering! (yes trains to Corby are always bad!)
The cooling towers belong to Ratcliffe Power Station.
"You are using that shot" - hahaha!
Hey, is that a Fitbit tracker that Vicki taps at 6:29?
great video what are you guys doing next ?
So what’s the difference between a pacer and a sprinter?
The editing was really nice in this one√
4:09
What was that sound?
4:21 That's an Express Sprinter but Sprinter is also right
Olde Trip to Jerusalem. great watering hole and food.
Cheeky royal wave from Queen Victoria at 6:38
Leo Levontine 6:31 actually...

i live near kettering and corby and the corby train is frequently canncelled or delayed
RIP Thomas Cook
arrrg you did Nottingham and I cant belive I missed you
Finlay Wishart Same
Can you get a pacer or sprinter theme tune please! This is a recurring theme.
If you need a lift to or from Corby in the future let me know .
Did you find those geocaches?
You visited Cromer on June 4th but no video?
Geoff. What app are you using in this vid?
Before I watched this I thought Vicki Geoff and some trains. What could possibly go wrong.
I told you Thameslink would be late when I met you at penge ;)
I prefer the original theme music
Shortly after the bit about being on the same train for two hours, the editing made it look as if they kept on changing direction. Video taken from both side of the train I suppose.
Are you doing the stations from St Pancras-Bedford?
my station Loughborough :D
same!
Can you go on the great central Railway in the Leicester and Loughborough area and Quran
I agree
Your episode numbers don't follow your day numbers in any ration I can figure out? can you explain to me please - just curious:-)
They were only doing 4 main videos a week according to the Kickstarter project terms - other videos were done to Facebook Live or Periscope. I think Geoff's own channel might have some additional videos.
Without sounding dumb..... What's the difference between sprinter and pacer?
Thanks.
Had to go back to find Tram. day 31 where has that month gone ?
malcolm hogan Not every 'day' gets an official video as they are only producing 4/5 official videos a week.
I know, but that month has flown by.
5:54 Best excuse ever!
Oh sad about different music! It's very very nice music... but it isn't THE All the Stations music. But great you'll do downloads, thanks!!!
it IS the All The Stations music .. !
+All The Stations sorry, I know guys, but it was different, while nice, just less perky and not the usual (I love the usual theme tune)... Steve's music is awesome! Really totally impressed. (whispers: I see I'm not the only one who missed it)... S'okay I can go back to any previous episode to hear, then download when it's out (hopefully not just iTunes??)
should be published on June 16th ...
+All The Stations Hooray! Very excited, love the theme tune! (and honestly this piano bit is lovely, truly) :-)
