Price : Retail price is around $55 but I have seen it for as low as $44 as scandinavianoutdoor site; that is where I purchased mine.
Availability : If you are interested in this stove and you live in Europe, they will be easy to locate. If you are in the USA, it will have to be imported.
I ordered this from scandinavianoutdoor with my own money as I am Agenda Free. I ordered it from this site even though it says that it can be exported to the USA or Canada.

Big Bad Stove - the heaviest artillery of Savotta twig stoves! Big and bad, this stove is stronger and the firebox is larger than its younger siblings Happy and Grumpy. It has the same high-functioning structure because why improve on perfection? The stove comprises 7 laser-cut stainless steel components: three side walls, a bottom, a “face” and a cooking support in two sections. Once clicked into place, the stove is ready for use.

Pros :
The pros and cons that I have for this stove very much match those that I have stated for the previous editions of this stove as the only real difference between them all is size, weight and thickness of the metal plates.
This being the largest of the 3 stoves and features the thickest plates.
Setup : For an experienced user like myself, I can set this up in roughly 30 seconds and rock and roll. There is a flip side to this, if you aren’t familiar with stoves like this, it might give you a little trouble....more on this soon.
Design is good - the ash plate protects the ground while the stove still offers good oxygen allowance for your fire to burn efficiently. Also, the way that the stove goes together is just as good as many of the top names out there and is better than some of the collapsible wood burning stoves out there.
There are some bad ones and in fact, I recently reviewed one of them and that was the Small Lixada wood burning stove.
Included pot supports - you would be surprised at how many stoves don’t come with these and their efficiency suffers greatly because of it.
Packs down flat which means that it can easily fit just about any place; backpack, pocket, chest rig, etc.
Light weight.
Good size for one to two people and with small to medium size pots, pans and cups.
Due to the size, it is good for high heat and also simmering
The gauge of the stainless is good; it is thicker than some while being thinner than some others. It’s a good balance of thickness and strength while keeping a good weight.
Free fuel…..which saves you money.
Fun to use
Easy to clean up.
Very stable - can be setup on just about any type of surface and it doesn’t have to be completely flat like with some similar stoves.
Cons :
While not complicated by any means, the setup will take a bit more work and attention the first couple of times that you use it. You might have it come apart or have to work to get everything to connect and fall into place correctly.
Pricey for a Hobo Stove…but you are getting an awesome form factor and great quality in addition to a very well thought-out and good performing stove. I should mention that this isn’t the most expensive of folding wood stoves; emberlit is a good bit more expensive for an example. They are much cheaper versions as well.

Summary :
Savotta makes excellent stoves and that is the case with the Big and Bad version. It is expensive but you do get a very nice product that has a sense of humor.

I worked at a bakery a while back, had access to free pie tins. Little tip i keep a pie tin in the car for trips that I use a 'stick stove', I just put the stove in the pie tin, super light weight, i feel like it's just a second degree of protection from embers getting away.

I use the larger of an aluminium 'dixie' mess tin set (my wood stove fits nicely inside for storage). Keep the bottom covered with water and one can use the stove on just about any surface.
To me, Big Bad is actually just the right size. I'm 6'1", and got relative big hands. The happy & grumpy, like any other similarly sized hobo stove, are just wee bit too small IMO. The slightly bigger size of the Big Bad makes the stove more stable, and you don't need to feed the stove quite as often as the smaller ones, because you can fit more mass at a time. I'm sure many people like the happy & grumpy stove exactly because they are a bit smaller and thus also lighter, but I'm not a "gram saver", and prefer rigid and durable over small & light. The cooldown time I don't see as a con myself, since if you are cooking with a hobo stove, you are already behind the gas-cookers on the "race" so who cares :-)

I've actually manged to warp the Happy Stove relatively easy. My solution for this is to just turn it inside out at the next use so it's auto-corrects itself again. Otherwise, great products. Made quite a few meals on these during my trips last year.
As an inventor I am always impressed by simplicity.
When something is simple, the hard work has already been done.

I like to make my coffee and boil water for meals on a wood stove flame.
Way back in Cub scouts, when camping out, we were taught to rub the outside of our pots and pans
with a bar of Ivory soap before cooking. That kept them from staying black from the wood fire
and made them easy to clean.
I felt like I was the only former cub scout who knew this fact and boy did it trigger some old memories of cooking over a fire. Thank you beatfarmerfan!

Thank you, Luke for outstanding rewievs! I went and looked Savotta stoves at the local market and the had the big and the grumpy there. For the big price was 44,90 € and the smaller was 34,90€..those were the Finnish prices. So about the same as you paid. Looking forward to seeing more Savotta rewievs from you. I think they all sound great I would purchase such a stove and it beats having to make a fire on ground that is wet your reviews are phenomenal and you keep people from spending their money unnecessarily thank you

Thanks for finally reviewing this big, bad guy ! Bought one end of last Summer, unfortunately haven't used it yet. The idea at the time was to put a smaller cast iron griddle on it and see if I could do breakfast outside. Basically bacon, eggs, and pancakes. I'll probably get the little happy guy end of Spring because I think my 3 year old son will dig it. I can tell him it's his, but daddy still has to be in charge of, respinsible for it for now.

These large wood stoves are an awesome alternative to having a campfire. Please consider getting one for that purpose, fires damage the ground and leave behind a lot of mess

Great review. I use a Vargo Ti hex stove which is also good. I'll check out the Savotta. I love using collapsible wood stoves. Interesting to how long the stove takes to cool down. The titanium stove I have cools down incredibly fast as does my Ti mug. I guess one benefit of titanium, downside is the cost of the material.

I have the Happy stove. Very good and high quality. Also you dont need to carry any fuel which is hrwat.
A little more complicated to assemble than some other stoves. Some brands uses hinges and as these are in separate pieces there is allways a risk of loosing one piece of the kit if your not careful. So keep all pieces in the bag at all times.

Northern Utah has had several dry seasons in a row. Have not really looked at wood burning stoves simply because of the fire risk. It would be fun to be able to show my scouts how they work and their benefits, just does not seem smart at this point where we live. Thanks for the review!
@Zack Darce I’m not worried about myself starting one but the fire bans have been pretty strict to the point of not even being able to use the fire pits in improved campgrounds. Its been that dry out here. Here in the next year or two the state is already considering having to go to court for water rights because we just are not getting the rain and snow that is needed to support the amount of people here.
Great video, Luke! How about reviewing the Emberlit Fireant stove? I have it, and the fit and finish is super, it's compact and lightweight and also has an option to fit an Esbit or Trangia alcohol burner, as well as a plate for solid fuel tablets.

What is your method of cleaning/ removing soot from pots and pans after cooking over fire?
I was surprised by how sturdy and solid these feel. With all the parts in place, there is very little to basically no rattle. The top guard fits really snug. I did get it to warp a little when I really stressed it with some bone dry birch, but it settled back on its own when it heated more evenly. I personally wouldn't even mind a little warping, the metal used they cut it from was so straight it had formed a vacuum between and I had to really pry it apart the first time.
Number 10 bean can and a coat hanger for me.
I have the Emberlit stove and am making a hobo stove fron an Ikea utensil strainer.

what does it mean it cools down in "substantial time".what would be ca the lenght (in h) at a given outside temp? The simpliest designs are usually the best. this ones seems like it too
The thing that makes these stove's so awesome is you don't have to rely on a store to be open to have the ability to cook or boil water!

I would never have so many separate plates to make a stove. Then needing twigs as fuel, plus a ignition source to light it.

Hey Luke! Have you heard of the Brennerle Hobokocher wood stove? It’s from Germany, & quite pricy, but it’s cylindrical, but it packs flat. You may like the unquietness of it.

Have you reviewed Solo Stove Lite? I have it and while it has good things, there are also many cons. It's also fairly expensive.
I love the face! But thier needs to be more slots for the base. My one digress can be used with stern and flame cubes. That is important when things are soaked. I just don't like
canisters.

How well do these work with other fuel, like a alcohol burner or the tablets? This looks like something accualy comparable to the large firebox stove if it has the flexibility of fuel. Many cheeper hobo stoves are not in any way comparable to the firebox other than that they burn wood

@ibid_2win nice. I just like the options i have with the Nano on trail. I can burn wood, esbit tabs, Alcohol stove or gas as well. In fact i have tried different combos of wood then esbit and wood then alcohol. All good stove choices I think. Between this channel and Paleo Hiker md I've seen all stoves on action. Taking a break from knives and lights. LOL

Hey Luke, are the smaller stoves made of the same heavy gauge of steel? I’d just picked up a smaller lookalike off ebay, but @ 0.48mm, I’m not expecting the warp-free results you’ve described. P.S.: is this your first post-op video? If so, lookin’ good, brother!
Hi Douglas, the Happy and Grumpy are made of 0.5 gauge steel.
Any backpacking stove can start a forest fire but I think wood and alcohol stoves are more prone to do that, so not really interested in using those types of stoves at this time due to my location (Northern California), but appreciate your review.
What’s blows is that Savotta will not ship these to the US. I’ve looked everywhere for a Happy Stove and at three different vendors I get the same message at checkout: we do not ship to the US.
