Jiyoon didn’t deserve any of the hate she got and shame on JYP for not protecting her during that scandal.
He seems to have a record of this type of thing, unfortunately.

@@rosefulmadness no this is fully on jyp himself too
@@rosefulmadness I said what I said, this is on him
kpop companies literally never defend their idols (especially women) it's so ridiculous
For those saying that SK is not just ready for that kind of song at that time, think again. Jiyoon was still a minor when JYP made her record Adult Ceremony. A song that's about a girl finally loosing her virginity to an older guy ( whom she is seeing around for years as a minor ) when she finally turn into an adult. Yes it's about grooming. Also this video doesn't cover enough all the harassment and indecent proposals she got as an 18 year old which is by the way not the considered legal adult age in SK.
Actually she was not a minor. She was 19 korean age which made her legally an idol. JYP still shouldn't have published that song. She was barely an adult and wasn't protected by JYP.
@@GrizzlyNextDoor
With all respect I don’t think it matters what age she was whether it was 18 or 19, as you said she wasn’t protected🥺😮💨
@@anyone1111 I mean it would even be worse if she was underaged but yeah. She was not protected and as young woman she must have felt so bad...
@@GrizzlyNextDoor no, S Korea uses international age for most legal purposes (including age of majority) and has since the 80s, Ji-yoon was a minor under Korean law when the song was released.
@@CrystalGazer95 I forgot that legal age in Korea is 20 ☠️
my issue with this song and idols covering is that it's written to be more of a 'male fantasy barely legal virgin' vibe rather than women expressing their own sexuality :/
Exactlyyy!!!
Well, most of kpop songs are written by men.
No man is listening to this song
@@RavarsenBlogspot everyone was listening to it
Right! When i saw the English lyrics i was mortified
It's not about Adult Ceremony being "raunchy" but more about it being problematic. JYP used a hardly adult Jiyoon to fetishize an unacceptable relationship. The whole song talks about a girl who has been dating a much older man for a while, but they couldn't have sex because she wasn't 18 yet. But now she's 18 and she can finally lose her virginity, aka grooming. The public wasn't wrong to feel disgusted but like always, they attacked the wrong person. Instead of throwing stones at Jiyoon who is the victim here, they should have questioned JYP and the company heads for forcing such a disgusting concept on a young girl. The performance has never been an issue for me but it's the implied message that disgusts me. And to think that poor Jiyoon had no idea what the song meant when she sang it... gross.
💜💜
Exactly like Jyp should know his artist I feel like he did this on purpose knowing the backlash she would receive from that song

I’m a fan of his but I must say this is lowest thing JYP did cause it’s the worst especially that she was young
Korean cultural differences aside, the real issue is that she was manipulated into singing these lyrics/concepts. There’s a difference between a women freely expressing their sexuality and having it forced upon them to appeal to groomers
She didn’t deserve any of that :(
I know right.
I know
Jyp....
i love the sound of the song but so much of her popularity and career feels like she was being set up/groomed into what she ended as.. its really sad how badly this effected her
Just found out park jiyoon has a new song coming out.
She's featured on a song in RM's album called "No.2" I think, i'm so excited to hear from her again.
She's so extremely talented.
Update: the song is lovely
LOVELY 💜
the song’s lyrics make me feel icky. it doesn’t feel like a “coming of age” celebration, but rather the sexualization of barely legal teen girls. it’s outdated and should be left in the past; especially with the controversies surrounding the release of the original song. poor jiyoon.
How does jyp sleep at night peacefully knowing he ruined a person's life
Why am I not surprised JYP didn't help her? That company (and the man) are really getting worse and worse in my eyes the more I learn about the kpop industry.
sadly this is reality for any company or industry, in terms of pushing idols/singers/actors to do things they shouldnt and dont wanna do
He's not the nicest person. Have a personal experience and thus not really think highly of him as a person.
Yeah JYP is a whole piece of shit and my favorite group is under his company. Can’t stand him, he’s no longer CEO and hopefully his influence becomes less and less. Also those ridiculous performances he does with young women trying to revive his own songs are cringe worthy.
@@billlee1094 what's your personal experience?
Do you guys also know that JYP is christian and would even do talks in some churches/congregations? He's always icky and creepy. But can't really say that he's bothered by how disgusting he is cos he's still rich and thriving. The world is really unfair sometimes.
I feel really really bad for her. She deserves better
If y’all wanna support Jiyoon, she actually featured on RM’s album indigo . She’s on track #10 titled “no.2” pls check it out
adult ceremony is raunchy, yes, but that doesn't mean jiyoon deserved to receive so much hate. i feel sorry for her
It was controversial at the time but it became a Kpop classic and it's still covered by many girl groups and soloists.
If y’all wanna support Jiyoon, she actually will be featured on RM’s album indigo that drops December 2nd. She’s on track #10 titled “no.2”

JYP is so disgusting. The company basically let her get hate by not protecting her for their disgusting idea. Also, the public was rightfully upset but they shouldnt hate on her, SHE IS THE VICTIM.
jiyoon didn't deserve any of this, seriously making her release this song at such a young age when she had no say in it whatsoever is disgusting, an 18y old is barely an adult, she was exploited and shamed for it when the ones who should be ashamed are the grown executives who put her in this position. i truly hope she has found peace of mind after all these years
Exactly! And I don’t understand why people are like but she was 18
She was a child at 18. Like literally that’s not even an adult in any adults eyes- they know that’s such a young age.
I’m appalled at how they did this to her. She had no protection and this is why I’m against minors being in this industry. It’s just wrong.
I wholeheartedly agree with both of you, and am dropping by to say the she just did a feature called No.2 on Namjoon’s new album and the song is specifically about… not beating yourself up over your past decisions 🙏

i saw how people who didn't know Park Jiyoon's story, expect her singing in her collab with RM to be "sexy", just based on this old song with creepy lyics and image imposed on her.
afterwards i saw people describe how it sounded like she comforted the listeners and him in that collab song "No.2", which is about leaving the past behind you.. which really overlooks imo how much the lyrics also can apply to her own mental health struggles and how she tried to leave behind the image and people that hurt her.

"a man choreographed a female choreography" You can tell, that choreo screams JYP from every move lol, moreover, there's no femininity in that dance.
Amen! That choreo is a weird man's fantasy through and through. A woman wouldn't have choreographed it that way at all.
Yesss...
Yep
Many, many years ago, I was watching the S. Korean film, "My Tutor Friend", and I heard a small snippet of "Sung In Shik" ("Adult Ceremony"), and became very interested in finding out the title of the song and who sang it. At the time, information online was limited, so it took me a very long time to finally discover that information. As soon as I did, I ordered a used copy of her fourth album (found it in Taiwan). And despite not speaking fluent Korean, I fell in love with her singing -- and she was the reason I initially became interested in K-pop.
Despite what this song represents, and the pain it brought to her, without it, I would probably have never given K-pop a chance.

Glad RM has her in his upcoming INDIGO 🌷 Sexual expression is not a concept. It is a part of your identity. The trouble with "kpop" is that everything is reduced to a concept. I found it very odd when I first came across kpop. As if artistic expressions is superimposed from the outside, instead of driven out from the inside.
I don’t know. I think it’s cool to have a concept. Then it helps with creating something instead of putting stuff together and calling it a day. Now, that being said, there is some weird concepts that k-pop has made and I raise and eyebrow. Having a certain concept for an album isn’t a bad thing. Some k-pop groups actually make it work and I’m always interested on what theme is next. For me, I like to have an idea on what I’m doing so I can go from there. If you’re the person that just wants to be random and do it that way, them that’s cool too. 😊
@@jaydabomb2510 No I don’t mean unstructured and random and without direction. But the idea of concept in kpop is externally directed. The artists only performs the given direction like a good worker only doing where instructed with little input. Sexual expression is VERY PERSONAL, it should INTERNALLY DRIVEN. Making it a financial strategy like the kpop concept is reducing it to something smaller. That’s what I am saying. Nothing to do with being random and spontaneous.
Omg I love how you describe it as superimposed from the outside instead of driven from the inside, that perfectly puts into words something that I've always noticed too. This especially bugs me about the idea of a "dark concept" because it reduces heavy themes to just an aesthetic. As Army myself, this is why I don't like when people beg for dark concepts from bts, because for them it isn't just a concept, but a real expression of painful experiences that they've had. I feel like this particular kpop mentality just takes away so much agency from the artist.
@@miraagenvine9914 The first reply to my original post makes me think that concept is focused on the consumer. Kpop has been known to focus on providing consumers and fans services. They are probably not respected as musicians or performing artists by the world at large because is this. Nothing they do is for art. Everything is a form of service disguised as art. So a lot of music lovers and performance art lovers look down on “idols”. I hope kpop will continue to be forced to change for the better. Especially in labour law and protection from abuses and being treated like workers at the bottom of the company. Instead of the talented people that they are.
I had a feeling the video was about THIS INFAMOUS SONG.
I don’t know when society will get that eighTEEN is a still a teenager and should not be sexualized. Stop giving teens mature concepts, it’s gross and only perpetuates predator/ pedophile culture more than it already is

The song Adult Ceremony is a great song. I understand as an artist, you want control over your music on the other hand, there’s nothing embrace one’s sexuality.

While adult ceremony might be raunchy and definitely of jyp fault, why doesn’t anyone question why she released an album called age is just a number when she was even younger?
there's a singer named Aaliyah i think she's american and released a song titled "Age ain't nothing but a number" while being 15 years old.

@@namjooniejoon6814👏 YES!
Very well spoken 🤝 💜
Finally! Every talks about the song, but not about what happened to Jiyoon after this.
I think the main thing that happened here was the obvious influence of black culture and entertainment on the K-pop industry now and even back then (idc what nobody has to say) bc even the album name speaks for itself. this is strikingly similar to what aaliyah went through and even jiyoon’s aesthetic that they made her switch too, also hence “age ain’t nothing but a number” is a song by Aaliyah. It makes sense that they’d give her such a concept after looking at what’s going on elsewhere, especially given that JYP is a know culture vulture. It also makes me mad that they got angry at a 18yo for singing such a song but didn’t question the writers themselves and jyp, it clearly had to have been their own personal fantasies, bc who just thinks of something like that when they wanna write a song.
I totally agree with you on this cause once I heard the album title then the song I’m like this seems like someone tryna make a Korean Aaliyah
Not everything is about black people. SMH. Korea LITERALLY still doesn't treat grooming and s*x abuse as they should. People in Korea still get like 6 years for even r*pe. 10 maybe. Feminism isn't looked well upon there. Stop bringing black folk issues into everything.
@@PickyVickyVindictive obviously but as a korean person you cannot tell me these behaviors and the way the entertainment industry gets themselves into shxt is because of them looking toward WESTERN…AMERICAN….BLACK ENTERTAINMENT not fully being aware of its own underlying issues or why what they do is controversial. disagree or don’t. the aaliyah spoke for itself. clearly everything in Korean isn’t about black people but YOURE TALKING ABOUT the KPOP INDUSTRY and JYP, a known culture vulture…he’s the reason she got into the mess. but I’ll be quiet then lmao 😭
@@mindyabuisness4813 exactly…and it’s a similar concept to Aaliyah’s concept, songs, and lyrics. The no. Of. Female idols jyp ent has sexualized and misused is heartbreaking
JYP and Jype will never change, they don't protect their artists. Not back then, not now, not ever...
I understand why SM protected BoA so much...
Edit: and BoA was a dance machine, this choreo isn't "tamed" for the time and S. Korea standards but seriously she is dancing like a robot. BoA would eat her up. Thank god for SM....
SM isn't any better than JYP or any other company, considering that they hired a known pedophile aka Min Heejin (the CEO and founder of ADOR under HYBE) and allowed her to oversexualize Shinee, mainly Taemin, when they were still underage as well as Yeri and NCT Dream. The company also forced Taemin to have a feminine image and profited off of it even though he was tired of everyone only seeing him that way.
SM has their handful of issues too they’re not much better 😬 they also debuted minors too. we don’t know everything BoA went through
I think it's extremely easy for young women in the entertainment industry to be groomed into these concepts under the context of " freedom " and " empowerment ".
I'm not trying to shame wanting to express your sexuality, but the song isn't really made from the perspective of a woman who feels ready to explore this side of her now that she's able to, but from a sick male perspective who was just waiting for her to turn 18 so he can finally have his way with her.
I guess it's extremely easy at that age to not pay attention to these creepy undertones and sing the song while thinking it represents something mature that should make you feel empowered and proud. Maybe she thought it's was a "spicy " love song which will present her in a more mature way than how her older concepts were.
The idea that an artist, or anyone, for that matter, should have to "earn" the right to free expression, is so incredibly troubling and problematic. I don't even know where to start with that.

This is why everytime there's an idol debuting at young age but has mature concept or questionable lyrics..

Ngl for the longest time I thought “adult ceremony” was an actual event not a song …
This song makes me incredibly uncomfortable.
This is the exact reason why I’m against debuting young idols. It’s easier to take advantage of them because of their innocence and lack of experiences.
Very sus that everyone knew her parents and her in the church but still decided to play it in the church in front of everyone as a bad example.... Wow

Adult ceremony is a timeless K-pop song.
she's so pretty in that first video of her singing, her teeth remind me of nayeon lol
She was known for her beauty in the first place!

Its so odd though knowing just how popular this raunchy song is with a certain age-group, about late high school through late 20s, and how crazy fans go when someone is covering it. And I've seen both guys and girls cover it...I think its ok to perform if we make sure no minors are around. 17/18...technically they shouldn't be viewing such contents but let's be honest, they already see it/know about it.
Great Song with Horrible Cost... Hope JYPE gives protection to idol this time.
I honestly felt that the she looked soulless and the choreography felt kinda awkward. Finding out the real story behind the song made everything sense.
There’s a lot of this video that isn’t fully explained and truly glossed over.
like what? (Im genuinely curious)
JYP literally be using his artists cause of his generational trauma of being rejected by SM and taking advantage of those young kids that's disgusting
" With chocolate chips, you know I wanna sprinkle all over And ruin your appetite Yeah I’m hiding but I really wanna see your face" this is the english translation of New Jeans Cookie along with " Take it don't break it I wanna see you taste it" now see the difference of how people act in the past where in now they defend this song as Making a CD. In which timeline and mindset if you hear. " take it don't break it I wanna see you taste" goes directly on they're singing about making a CD.
Wow her album about being 21 was banned cuz she was too "explicit". Just crazy...
One thing that has me confused is you say she had a cute image until she went to jyp and released adult ceremony but you also said she released something called "age is nothing but a number" which is a phrase used to sexualize young people so I'm kind of confused how she could release something under that title but it's still a 180 when she goes to jyp??
Goodness I did not know how young she was when she debuted and that she was still just a minor performing such a mature adult concept.
I find it concerning how mature she was made to look/appear even early on in her career as a model and how quickly she had to grow up and this is all still going on in 4th gen Kpop today and this is why I'm concerned about new jeans.... they are basically kids working around adults and being expected to live as adults too that in itself is scary because their age makes them even more vulnerable and unknowledged about the world and easy to be preyed on.Something doesn't feel right about putting kids into the the grown up world of the showbiz industry. I just don't think it's right for the parents to entrust their kids into the hands of strangers....
That church is part of the problem. So passive aggressive against a young girl.
Churches always be like that smh
for sure, what a horrible way to go about that situation
this is the song that introduced me to K pop, I'm so glad she took the bull by the horns, but I think her company should have protected her more.
Britney spears was 16 when she released hit me baby one more time and filmed that music video. Jyp has a history of being raunchy, for a time its what he was known for his shows where women were essentially doing a burlesque strip tease. While some of it might be his own fantasies I feel a lot of that was because he felt he was being edgy and wanted to be like madonna. He gave this song to her because being risqué worked for him. Those transparent pants he's known for were worn for a reason. Times change, people change, I don't feel this is something he'd give to any of the girls in jyp now.
Interesting ! I hope she’s now with good terms with her parents and she’s happy
It's seen that she an amazing singer but I haven't heard any songs of her but when she became more popular with one song but after that become an issue. Her parents become kinda embarrassed in a way when a priest of their church shoe that video and people look at them on a way and haven't talked with her even though they were supported her at first in the beginning
I really don't understand SK concept. they getting uncomfortable with song while they having a industry of adult films and also having scenes in a movie and especially in daily soap. if they really don't want this kind of stuff in entertainment, they should critic all of this too. why only band k pop songs where they can ban movies or dramas then. when there is limitation, do limit all equally, not partially. it just entertainment and should see this all as entertainment too. if don't want then please don't blame the artist, blame the company in this case. Rational are really lack at SK. Hope justice always win there too. I'm glad Park Ji Yoon is happy with her life now. ps: it just my opinion, i really love SK, it just feel so sad and feel so so bad for the people who suffered for not so their fault. Peace.

Korea wasn’t ready for any of that. Lol. And even just a few years ago, a lot of the sexy acts by adult idols were still wrongly criticized, i.e. Stellar’s entire raunchy phase. It’s hypocritical to say the least, maybe even misogynistic, because we all know it’s targeted hate by certain groups of bigoted people.

It’s weird to me, as an American, to watch people lose it about this song when we had Britney Spears being MUCH more blatant. To me, this isn’t anything that the artist did wrong and everything that the public did wrong.
da cultures are different nd SK is very much a conservative country, even back then. just bcuz something is more acceptable here doesn't mean it is everywhere else. each country has its own views and standards
you have to understand that the cultures are different (not defending those who threw hate on her ofc). not every country is very liberal or open abt stuff like that bc of the different values they carry. not every country is going to value the same things or have the same views.

never said they didnt💀
What are you talking about? People lost their shit over Britney. She was harassed badly from the beginning.
Yet every female idols basically have to do this song 🎵 😪 🤧
i pray idols stop doing this as soon as they turn of legal age and wait until their more comfortable. i think the song and dance can be enjoyable but i don’t want companies pushing this performance onto their idols
i feel like one of the most comfortable ones that covered it was gahyeon from dreamcatcher who was 20(21 korean age) which is what korea considers officially being adult.
Understand the controversy and the issues but have to say the song and her rendition of it are iconic … wish it was handled better though …
3:25 Naming an album "Age is nothing but a number" always brings bad luck to female singers as it means that their sexuality is being exploited when they are too young for it
i'm glad RM worked with her!! I really love her voice
the good thing about being a foreign kpop fan, I never cared about any of this "too sexy" stuff as it was nothing bad outside of asia , or at least not in europe lol. Adult Ceremony is one of my favourite past Kpop songs, her other cutie-songs were not my thing
indeed, it was an exaggerated response.
