- Robert Wagner was in Palm Springs to promote his new book "Pieces of My Heart". The event was sponsored by Sun-Up Rotary and held at the Camelot Theatre.
In this clip, Robert Wagner reminisces about his romance with Barbara Stanwyck. The interviewer, Stan Layne, is a morning talk show host and a thearapist...which explains why he offers his business card to RJ.
How is he conceited? He is being very respectful of her and only saying nice things, I see nothing wrong with this. It's not like he is giving intimate details of their sex life, he is saying that he feels very lucky to have been involved with her. What's wrong with that?
Surely a lot of people knew about the relationship. And when she won the Emmy for The Thorn Birds in 1984, it was presented to her by...Robert Wagner. The way they embraced showed they still cared for each other. As for Natalie Wood, everyone on the boat was drunk, they had an argument, she fell in the water and drowned - end of story.
She was a great lady. RIP Lady Stanwyck.
I heard a story about Barbara being concerned about the film crew not getting their dinner. She ordered sandwiches from a local restaurant and served the crew members herself. She didn't eat until after the crew had been served.
To Bob Sewvello re: Your comment about Barbara Stanwyck (3 years ago on You-Tube) Yes, she did order dinner for the crew. She also gave gifts to the crew, and their families at Christmas. She even paid for many of their kids to go through school, and for medical expenses. Barbara came from a very poor childhood, her mother killed, her father ran off. She and her brother barely survived. All she wanted was "enough food to eat and perhaps a winter coat." Eventually, she became a star, and was the "Highest Paid Woman in the U.S.A." She always treated everyone around her with love, generosity, kindness and respect. She was an American Film Legend, and a true American Hero.
A lot of people talk about Barbara being Republican as well as someone who may have named names. If she did, we don't know her motivations, and being Republican was very different than it is now. The fact that she gave as much as she got makes her a heroine in my book.
Precious footage and I have tremendous respect for Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Wagner.
@@markwaltz3307 Being a Democrat was a lot different then, too ~
Wagner said he fell in love with Barbara Stanwyck after seeing her performance in Double Indemnity.
To which I add: “Who didn’t fall in love with Barbara Stanwyck after seeing her performance in Double Indemnity?”
To which I add: "Who didn't fall in love with Barbara Stanwyck?"
Maybe that movie is where he got the idea to off Natalie.
Wagner is a lying, weak pus of a man--using a brief sexual affair w/Stanwyk and trying to say that it lasted 4 years in order to write a book about it --AFTER she's DEAD! Stanwyk is said to have had MANY affairs--some with women--so he shouldn't consider himself to have been so sexy as to keep him around for 4 years.
Actually , he said that they got together during the filming of "Titanic".
I always love Robert Wagner ❤
He was extremely VERY Handsome when he was young... Like W😻W!
We can see clearly the BIG difference between Robert Wagner, the man who love her and Robert Taylor, the man who she loved.Very very contrast.
You go girl!!!! You're right about this. I'm still waiting for Wagner to give an interview about what happened to Natalie on November 28th, 1981.
I hope he reveals the truth but I don’t think he will.
I don’t think anyone remembers. They were all hammered beyond belief.
Got away with murder, him and Christopher Walken
Gorgeous What a creepy thing to say. You know nothing.
Yes, he was respectful by talking about Barbara Stanwyck, but I dont think she would like to have their story revealed as she was such a private lady. What strikes me the most is that he talked so candidly about Mrs. Stanwyck and so cheaply about Joan Crawford. If he was a decent man he would have kept also that story to himself. It was so gross the way he refered to her. If she did what she did, he was there to be the "recipient", so what moral he has to talk about Mrs. Crawford that way?
He's a jerk.
Jeanette Smith He is far from being anything like a jerk,
You’re projecting.
That is so wild. Stefanie an William/ Robert and Barbara.
who hasn't this man slept with what a class act to bring this up to sell a book
Whatever! He didn't just sleep with her. It was a 4 year relationship. And he's a Hollywood actor who wrote a memoir. All Hollywood celebrities who write memoirs mention about their relationships with other movie stars. That's what the readers want. Why should he keep her out of his stories? She was a great star, but she wasn't God.
What a treat to listen to the charming Mr. Wagner. Thanks for posting.
I am so shocked at these awful comments. It was something that happened in his, he has the absolute right to tell the story. And he was so clearly respectful of her memory, and she meant to him, "kind, loving and generous". Have any of you seen "Titanic"? Their chemistry is as plain as day. Get a grip folks! Nothing he said could change how loved and respected Miss Stanwyck! Why would bring up his wife..that's disrespectful!
Cj Jackson It certainly makes him look good!
I agree. These people are morons
Also, some famous people want the truth known when so much rumor or lies are said.
@Redeagle52000 yes you need to see all of her movies but especially Sorry Wrong Number, Ball of Fire and Double Indemnity. Love Love Love her
My own Barbara Stanwyck favourite movie is 'The Lady Eve', a truly great comedy written and directed by Preston Sturges. She gives a marvellous performance opposite Henry Fonda, the dinner party scene when she is pretending to be an English aristocrat and the misfortunes of Henry Fonda is one of the funniest scenes in film.
No one knows if he killed. Everyone drunk on a boat late at night, asking for trouble. She probably was drunk and fell in the water and drowned. Idk but I do know it’s a deadly combo. I won’t go near a boat if everyone has been drinking. And if he did, God forgive him. I am not here to judge anyone I do know that much
I feel the same, we were not on that boat and the captain was even drunk and changed the story a couple of times.
You're right. People of Wagner time would have never said something about an affair with Barbara Stanwyck even if it was true. She would have never spoken to him again had she been alive to hear this.
It was sad in 1981 when an inrtuder beat up and robbed Barbara Stanwyk in her own home. Barbara was not a beauty, but she was an outstanding actress. Robert Wagner was 22 and she was 45 when they got together. Robert was breathtakingly handsome young man, I can see why she felt that he was irresistible.
I’m sure she still looked great at 45
Ms Stanwyck was a Beauty
Ms. Stanwyck was a mountain of grit and determination…a wonderful fun personality with a zest for life…I’m sure he fell for her no problem. The most beautiful woman I’ve ever encountered was no great beauty, but she had the cutest personality and the most beautiful soul I’ve encountered in this realm of existence. It’s not all about looks.
Robert Wagner was the greatest as a young actor in Hollywood many many fantastic rolls from war movies to Titanic I loved them all
@TheWhistler3 She was rated as the 11th greatest actress of all time. That's what counts for me. Stella Dallas really moved me, and I need to see more of her movies, but by God, her role as Mary Carson in the "Thorn Birds," her last "command performance" (though she did perform for a season on TV in "The Colbys" and did well in that)...but...as Mary Carson, WOW!!! What a note to go out on!!! That VOICE, and her sheer POWER!!! And quite attractive at the age of 75 in that role.
Lovely story 📚
I haven't respected Wagner since the death of Natalie Wood. The pair were really fighting and things were thrown with Natalie being drunk. Christopher Walken was on their yacht for the night and there's just so much more.
Reminds me of the alleged incident involving the producer Thomas Ince, while on board the yacht of mogul William R Hearst. It also involved Chaplin and Marion Davis. Made into a movie called ' the Cats Meow'.
Were you there, mate? If not, stfu.
You know nothing of what truly happened.
You’d better hope that no one makes such unfairly false assumptions about your life, especially strangers who know nothing about it.
Strangers who then spread gossipy, misinformed rumors, which cause gullible people to lose respect for you.
Barbara Stanwyck had energy. ITs obvious in all her roles, and what make her extremely attractive to me at least. SHe was pretty too, and had a nice body, but something about her zest is really what is attractive. I'm sure she enjoyed having a young pile driver for a BF.
her second husband Robert Taylor was about 4 years younger than her. She never wanted to get married after her first marriage. While she loved Taylor and did eventually marry him, she would have been just as happy if they didn't.
He got away with the ultimate! Pos
No justice for NW
Speculation. If their was factual evidence he would have been arrested.
@@mortimerbrewster3671 She would never had gotten in the dingy in her nightgown because he was horrified of dark water. He had something to do with her death in some way.
@weightfeather1 That's very interesting since Stefanie Powers had a nine year relationship with Holden. Do you know when he and Ms. Stanwyck were together?
@TheWhistler3 you're right--it certainly didn't affect her peformances. she was one classy dame.
Barbara Stanwyck was an exemplary person and a true class act. She was a very private person, and these comments about her orientation are kind of disgusting. What does it matter?!?! I'm not exactly a RW fan, but he does say lovely things about her, as does anyone else who knew her. If you want to start taking tallies about the private lives of people in Old Hollywood, well, you'll find plenty of lies, rumor and scandal.
In short, LEAVE BARBARA ALONE. ;-)
thank you for making the statement about her orientation being kind of disgusting. All those comments about her sex preference started after she was dead. She is not here to defend herself.
@germangirlclassic You are absolutely correct!! Anything goes in tacky America. We have no class--except for certain wonderful people like Miss Stanwyck--she kept her private life to herself--and we should respect that of others!!
stanwyk WAS private enough to keep her affairs -- with men and women--a secret.
@@deborahflorence2332 That is her business.
he has a wonderful smile and a wicked sense of humour
Barbara was a private person. He had no business bringing this up, if it even happened. This just makes me dislike him even more than I already do.
I can see from the comments that people are protective of Stanwyck, who was a very private person, but this is HIS life & he has a right to talk about it.
Wagner & Barbara Stanwyck were together for a while. I'm guessing that after her divorce from Robert Taylor just a year earlier, meeting Robert Wagner on set may have been an unexpected & welcome surprise for her. Stanwyck referred to Robert Taylor as the love of her life--there's a great interview of them together on a vacation in England in 1947, they do look happy together: ruclips.net/video/FCd7ZF7WrnM/видео.html
No, he doesn't have the right to talk about this. If Barbara was still alive, she would have been furious with him.
I don't believe a word that this man says.
Robert Wagoner went steady with Debbie Reynolds, everything was above board. No sex before marriage in thoses days. I wish Debbie could of had a good husband.
Also does it because he got no bites for any future acting jobs. What a CREEP!
so-o-o-o-o-o-o true.
At least barbera didn't go overboard on ya.
"Hey Ricky Wood: 'What's the only wood that won't float? Natalie Wood!' " (old one)
Mein Gott, war ich erschrocken ... Ich dachte, das ist Josef Fritzl ... ;)
Wonder if Mr Wagners book mentioned that
Babs was a real tigress in the la chambre?
He's a creep, so I am not going to read his book.
I believe she was truly surprised...
I dunno. There seems to be missing pieces of the puzzle here (from what I understand of other aspects of Ms. Stanwyck's life, for instance). Mr. Wagner seems to be whitewashing things a bit (based on these interviews - I admit I haven't read the book).
This is a beautiful tribute and in the book he wrote the words he uses to express this important love in his life - exquisite.
$$$$$$$$$$$$ is why he wrote it you dummy
She doesn't need praise from him in a book. Everyone that knew her loved her.
He married his mother
@eaglelover0512 ..notice he doesn't talk about natalie wood...very suspicious death..
Like Barbara is going to come back from the grave to verify this claim - love how he tries to proclaim how "virile" he is. But when it come to honoring his late wife, Natalie Wood, he avoids the subject - gee, I wonder why.
He’s spoken many times about Natalie. It’s a sad subject and it’s his right. I’ve never heard him say an unkind word about her . Besides, it’s his right to say anything.
@@KindCountsDeb3773 Not really. Read his book, read the book about Natalie by Gavin Lambert which he sanctioned. Blamed her for her own death, accusing her of flirting with men, saying she had a drug problem when her autopsy showed she did not, etc.
Taking into consideration he was one of the most exquisitely beautiful young men in Hollywood at the time, Barbara was a very lucky woman. Of course, they had an affair, it was well known by Hollywood insiders and I'm sure she taught him a great deal.
all these bad comments 'bout Wagner but do they know more then the police who did NOT arrest or charge him with Woods death ?...& btw.... he's married to Jill St John since the mid 90's .. he couldn't be all bad if Jill puts up with him...
Not enough evidence to convict - doesn't mean he didn't do it.
sept12twilite needs to get over it already. If you can't stand him, why do you watch all the clips about him? I've seen your negative comments before. Are you a frustrated RJ wannabe? The guy is a class act all the way! Back off.
He's NOT so classy as you say. Look at his SAGGING fat stomach and old looks!!!! HE HAD to write a lying book in order to EAT!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU are SOOOOOOOO naive.
He's a closet case and she was a dagger. Case closed.
@dannybex How do you know? She dated a lot of men. The rest is all hear say. Not that it matters. I'm not sure Mr. Wagner should be mentioning his 'relationship' with a classy lady. Ms. s would not have said the same of him. Its sort of tacky. Glad he DOES mention that he says she was a wonderful woman--that is the truth. A real star and real person--
LG- I agree with you 100%! Now I know what the LG stand for- Life's good!
he makes me so uncomfortable. he's just so weird.
Never a fav of mine robert wagner i suppose he had to sell his book some how, but to bring up his relationship with barbara, to sell it, he has no class
I'm not buying his story at all. Stanwyck liked the ladies, and well, Wagner's first agent was Henry Willson, the man who 'discovered' Rock Hudson, Tab Hunter, Troy Donahue, etc., etc..
I don't know where you get the idea that Stanwyck liked the ladies. I am reading her bio (1st . volume) She was married for some time to Frank Fay and then Robert Taylor. She worked all the time going from picture to picture. I am sure the author would have mentioned the fact if she was having any affairs with women. She married her first husband Frank Fay when she was quite young. She divorced him because he was an abusive drunk. She was quite private and really didn't have a lot of friends. I have a feeling at least from reading this first volume that she did not have many men in her life.
You don't know shit about Barbara Stanwyck. She didn't "like the ladies." That's garbage that people like to make up. All of her sexual relationships were with men -- some of the best men ever.
Man you people are to much. Lol!
@@sanford943 Thank you Thank you for your comment. The sad thing she is not here to defend herself.
For the people ragging on Wagner you really don't know anything.
We know about his jealousy (almost all wife killers have that possessive personality) which is why they divorced. Natalie and her sister both said how afraid she was of dark water. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out he was jealous of her and Christopher Walken and did something, even if indirectly, to get her into that water.
this guy is remembered for not saving his beautiful wife from drowning..
No barbara got the breifs and tossed it when SHE was finished !!!! Way to go barbara !!!!!!!!
Barbara was a very private lady yet you are telling of your affair w/her. Doesn't seem very caring.
Muito elegantea
It takes a true gentleman not to kiss and tell, he definitely is not one of them.
Wagner is an "Actor "! that's what he does for a living ! Plays somebody else! He's been doing it since the 50's! How many times do you think he's "Played" the Grieving Husband! (He's been 'honing ' his craft for 57 years! COME ON PEOPLE !!!
A man's first time should be with an older woman.
Barbara Stanwyck was so remarkable person. She was so classy, so respectful to everybody. I dont think Mr. Wagner deserved her affection as I dont think he has respect toward women at all. Shame on him!
Deep down he's still hurting thats why he's talking !!!!!!
The only thing that hurts him is that he is not getting any attention.
I really wish I hadn't watched this. I have very mixed feelings about Robert Wagner, based on gut feeling and random details. I have great respect and admiration for Barbary Stanwyck, also based on the same. I've gotta with go my gut and say bleh!
@StaunchComic She was a lesbian, as others have said here. Let's just say that Wagner is probably not exactly telling the truth. Still trying to keep that closet door shut.
Sad thing do you believe everything you read. She is not here to defend herself
Disappointed in the bashing! Hollywood was very different then with the studio system. Hollywood was not known for straight men in those days, or even sober ones. It was another time. I believe he is trying to be as honest as he can be at this point in his life. He took a risk moving from movies to television in those days. Read the book, it is worth the time!
Ugh
@yamejanakaratoprak That's a big "if". And a definition full of holes.
Class act? LOL.
Barbara was a class act, not him.
I was suprised to hear about his affair with Barbara. I had always heard that she was a lesbian. I guess she was bi-sexual? Great lady whatever way she went.
Why does that even need to be brought up?
It is sad that Barbara is not here to defend herself. Do not believe everything you read young man.
@yamejanakaratoprak You're funny. Thanks for the laugh. :)
