Let’s give it up to the high school gym teacher who starts an affiliate. At that time….incredibly progressive to not just do that but to bring those concepts into the school. And the gymnastics teacher who (with the gym teacher) took DB out to tell her…”uh…you’re going to college. PERIOD.” Everyone needs a push in the right direction and with no parents to guide her, they did. Love that $hit.

My wife, has been waiting on this film to be released. I know why now. A lot of their similarities in growing up as a child having to fight for themselves. She laid in bed last night watching this. As for me I know I have so much more respect. I’ve learned in years as a first responder that before you make an opinion on someone you should get to know them first. Their story will often tell you a lot of who they are and why they are the way they are. So proud of her! Also as a Fire Chief I work with a lot of teenagers through our schools that have the same path to overcome like Danielle. I will for sure be sharing this video with them for a way of encouragement towards them to see that their past doesn’t have to define their future! Thank you again Danielle for your transparency and honestly! That’s called being real and owning who you are! Much respect! Stay Focused! 👊🏻

I was already team DBE as I knew there was more to her than the surface. I felt really emotional watching this as I could relate so much at times it felt like I was watching parts of my own life. We both very well could have identified as victims and continued the viscous cycle that is addiction. Sport saved my life as well. I don't often share stories of my life as I've always been ashamed of where I've come from so thank-you DBE because you are truly phenomenal and I realise, I fkn am too! I'm so happy that your mum has been 13 years clean. Unfortunately mine relapsed with meth only a year ago but we're on the road to recovery (again). I always admired the insane skills Danielle has, particularly on her hands. However I was always dismayed by the volatility, as I see in her the same same temper I possess. (red cards in soccer anyone?) And I try to be so easy on the judges in CF competitions. But now seeing this, and the vulnerability and access granted, I am firmly in the Danielle camp 100%. This took me from a casual fan to "there's no one else I want to win the Games more than her". God what a warrior. I get it now. Nothing but good things for you Danielle

I'd seen her on the Sevan show and thought she was smart and able to hold her own in the interviews and was aware she was one of the top athletes with a reputation for being a bit boisterous and badass, but I had no clue about the real person and what she'd been through and how much she had to overcome. It's heartbreaking but also inspiring. I don't know how anyone can watch this and not pull for her 100% going forward. Love her even more after this. Being someone who resonates with her story, I applaud her for putting it out there. Younger me could’ve benefited from this and I’m so happy that it’s out there for those who need it. DBE forever!

You are simply an inspiration and a survivor!!!
You went through and faced so many difficulties as a girl and as a teenager and yet you managed to succeed against all odds!
It's amazing to see how you were able to discover in yourself the strength to set high goals and simply strive for them.
From the moment I saw you, I felt that you are special and that there was a story behind you.
It's good that you shared with us, sharing with others is also part of your healing and connection to yourself.
I'm a physical education teacher who works with youth at-risk in high school and unfortunately I've seen many times how from places like yours in life it leads to suicide, depression and self-harm.
This is why you're si amazing!
My next lesson at school will be about you!❤❤❤

This was amazing. How can you not want to see her succeed after learning all the adversity she has overcome? I always wondered why she left Underdogs. Seeing Cotler all emotional made me like him more too. Glad she had some wonderful people in her life who believed in her. All it takes is one person.

I love this. As the person who got me into this sport it's dope to know her story and how she doesn't carry it with the heaviness it weighs.
Hope they do this for a few other athletes as well, would be dope to know the people in the games.
