WOW, I can remember many a day being spent at Steamtown as a child. And now I see why, children were free!!!. My dad and mum would take us to see the steam trains. I have a photo (or rather I have a slide) of me standing next to the driving wheel of 4472. I was the same size at the time. I continued in my love of steam trains (one of the many ladies who do), where as my brother didn't.
The photos are very good quality.
Am I seeing link -and-pin couplings? I didn't know anybody used them.
61306 was a goole engine back in 1966and was transferred to low moor October 66 then we got 61002 impala until June 1967 sadly lost to steam in the sky
As an engine cleaner at Hull Dairycoates in the early sixties, I had cleaned this loco many times and fired it as well. It followed me later on working around the Leeds area after I transferred their as a regular fireman October 66.
