Bro your fly fishing skill and knowledge has come a long way since I started watching your videos! Also this is probably your best edited video and the release cam is a great bonus. Keep up the good work, man. 1000 subscribers is on the way.
I am 61 years old and have fly fished for 35 years. I just discovered your videos. So glad that you are doing what you do in an excellent way. Love your videos and your love for flyfishing! We are in good hands for the future!
Dang those were some nice trout, especially for the smokies! By the way, those were wilds. They don't stock them where you're at, that's what makes those fish so impressive for that area.
I’ve asked a few people about it. They said they stock it a few miles down stream and they swim up into the park. But who knows! I’ve only ever fished it a few times.
@@TheTroutGuy1 Ah that is true. I know they do stock it right outside the park. But judging by the fins, only one of the multiple big ones you caught was a stocker. Nice fish either way.
They use to stock from where you turn into where you are, down river but not where you are. They are strainglers that swim up,im 57 and like your videos, ive fished my whole life here. Keep up the good clean fun
I would fish with you anytime. I hooked 4 in Gatlinburg last weekend before the rains moved in. 3 were in the 18" to 20" class and a fat 16" Bow! The Tellico is my new favorite river. However, I can't wait until the Bald River Falls Bridge rebuild is complete! Moved into TN last March and been hitting and learning the local waters! Loved the under-water releases and film them as well.
Thanks! I’m having a busy year this year. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to fish like I want. Should be back at it though in a few weeks! I’m sure we’ll meet paths sooner or later 😃
Wild trout in the smokies are typically smaller fish. Besides a selected amount of streams. They’re also so rare. So when you go out and catch 3-7 bigger fish you can just assume they’re stockers. In this stretch of water, the rainbow trout get around 8-10 inches. Maybe a 12 inches if you’re lucky. The stock trout will not have all their fins. They’ll be rubbed away from the hatchery tank. If a stock trout has lived a few years in the water prior to being stocked, they’re called hold overs. And they will grow their fins back. And look kinda wild.
Thanks man! Really appreciate the flies. Went out last week sometime and the fishing wasn’t great. Looking forward to using them when they come in. I’ll shout you out when I do my next video!
I'll add one more thing...Besides the fact almost all of your bows were wild, I have seen and caught them up to 20" there over the years. Once in a while you'll turn up a rogue brown. Thanks for releasing the fish 👍
You’re welcome! I’ve been saying “native” trout all these years. And someone else commented that they’re called wilds. That’s crazy. Thanks for watching! Would really love to get into a 20inch rainbow out of here!
@@TheTroutGuy1 The term "native" refers to fish that were naturally apart of the stream. The only "native" trout in Tennessee are brook trout. The term "wild" can be used to describe fish that were born and have lived in a stream throughout they entirety of their life. Tennessee is home to many "wild" or "stream born" rainbow trout but it does not have any native rainbow trout, as rainbows originate from the North Pacific Ocean. Not trying to be mean or anything just letting you know the correct terminology.
Don't know how I just got the alert for this video today, but wanted to let you know the opening into music/video looks great! Also, TWRA called me and wanted me to let you know, if you keep catching that many per trip, next year your gonna have to buy two stamps! Excellent day on the water, thanks for sharing the trip, and hope your toes grow back, but if not that kind of day fishing may well have been worth it...lol
Awesome video! I've fished with a spinning rod in the Greenbrier area with little luck. I'm really wanting to learn fly fishing though. You mentioned which ones were stocked based on the fins. How could you tell? You also mentioned that maybe you shouldn't be fishing that day. Are their days the park closes the streams to fishing?
Thanks! Yea you can tell by the fins being torn, or messed up from the hatchery walls. And no you can fish everyday in the park. I was just so surprised that I caught fish this big in the park. Because they never stock the park. TWRA does stock this same river down stream and I’m thinking these stockers had swam up stream into the park. Overall I’ll probably not have a better day at greenbriar. They do stock some big fish downtown Gatlinburg. If you’re new to fly fishing you should go down town on a Saturday morning. You’ll have a blast
@@TheTroutGuy1 thanks for the reply. I think I always assumed fly fishing was all dry fly, the strike indicator relates more to what I’ve done with trout magents. Seems like trout magnets do well on the clinch, but not as much in the park.
Yea, I’ve caught some big fish on trout magnets on the clinch. Guess it’s something about tail waters and wild streams. Don’t try and fly fish the clinch when you first start out. It’ll make you hate it lol. Go somewhere they stock trout. Tellico or downtown. It’ll help you out a lot! The water is also very low. And the lower the water the harder it is to fly fish.
and nor should you say where exactly you are because thats ruined many a sweet spot to fish ... the lazy people all flock there and it get hammered -- People need to realize that they need to put in the time and find their spots on their own! @@TheTroutGuy1
Not to be a Debbie downer, no rainbows are natives in Tennessee. There may be wilds, but the only trout native to Tennessee is a strand of brookie. Just thought I’d say somethin! Good work!
You’re good dude. When I say native just know I mean wilds. I’ve always just called the fish born in the stream without being stocked natives. I may start calling them wilds from now on. Glad you enjoyed!
Bro the quality of your videos have improved so much. I love your videos you’re gonna be huge soon! I’m in the North Carolina area and fish the watauga and south houlston occasionally we should fish some time! Keep killing it man 👍

We’re predicted to hit 1000 subs by July! But I’m thinking we’ll get there a lot sooner! Gonna be blasting out a lot more vids around March

I was very surprised! Because I had fished this weeks prior and didn’t see any stockers.
Thanks for watching! And for the kind comment!
Wow! Awesome release on the last fish!
Thanks!
Water looks so nice!
Nice work great video. Keep up the good work Your gunna be one of the big time channels. Don’t change the way your doing thing’s 👍👍

What's the fly pattern you were referring to.."Bobby Special"? Or did I misunderstand.
It’s like a white caddis larva hares ear! With a bead

Holler at me when you do! Goodluck out there.
I forgot how fun fly fishing was, been using a light weight spinning rod with trout worms the last year
There nothing wrong with that. Do you still have a fly rod?

Sent you some more flies, some are small, I use them for native and wild streams. Tight lines. Headed to NC April 6th. Good luck fishing.

I know that exact spot 🤣 Excellent video. When there is a hatch, that section can get crazy.

I'm come down on vacation in couple week and I'm planning on fly fishing the little pigeon river
It’s pretty great!
Enjoyed your video! Thanks for sharing! Is there a good all-around weight / length rod to fish the area around the Smokies
I use a 4weight I’d say a 3 weight would be really fun. If you have a smaller rod those fish would put up a bigger fight. It’s just your preference.
You said you wish you had someone to go with you.... give me a shout. New to the area and have the park on my list to figure out.

You are fishing the middle prong of the little pigeon river. West prong runs through the burg. East prong is not in the oark
Oh okay! Sorry about the mis information! I looked on my map and it told me it was just the little pigeon river.
You caught some nice fish for greenbrier. Enjoy your videos, I think they stock just outside the park
Dude you must be outside the park catching stockers hey that still counts
I was inside the park I’m thinking the rainbows moved up river for some reason. I was maybe 1 mile inside the park.
Best fishing I have ever seen in the park nice !
