  • A special day fly fishing the beautiful Cataloochee Valley. It's hard to beat the scenery between the wild fish and beautiful fall foliage in this amazing valley. What a great day to be on the water!

My dad and I spent three days fly fishing in that valley last fall. Absolutely beautiful. Brought me to tears a few times.

Very nice quality video. Nothing like being in such beautiful scenery. And of course flyfishing for trout. How do you like the fishpond backpack. I looked at it this weekend at mossy creek flyshop

Thanks for watching! I love the backpack so far. I picked it up last winter and have used it quite a bit now. I especially love it for bigger day trips where I’m hiking a good bit as it allows me to carry extra gear. I have also found myself using it for smaller trips like the one in this video simply because it lets me carry extra gear for recording. I currently have it paired with their Canyon Creek chest pack and love it as well.

There are brook trout in all of he tribs plus the mainstream now days. The water is so low I would have stayed in the mainstream.

That’s so interesting. Since my visit, I’ve definitely heard others confirm what you are saying as well. I think that’s encouraging that there is a strong enough population of brookies to compete side by side with the bows and browns in that area. Thanks for the info! Good to know for next time.

@@ColbertOutdoors Years ago it was very rare to catch them in the main stream. Then about 20 years ago we had and awful drought. The headwaters of the tribs all but dried up and went underground and the fish came down into the mainstream. They have been there ever since. It's also important to note the stream temps of the tribs and mainstream. Cataloochee has some of the coldest water in the park, all the tribs come from high elevation springs.

Wow. That’s such interesting history. It’s always interesting to see how historical events have shaped an ecosystem and a fishery. Thanks for sharing!

BUT fly fishing means fishing with a fly and NOT 'let the fish fly' 🤨

Flyfished the smokies on 10-25, caught many trout, had to stop several times to take in the scenery. Absolutely breathtaking, just me,the trout, and the forest. A perfect fall day. Enjoyed watching. New subscriber. 👍
