I always thought that it was a myth or that it was only possible in the expansion. It's funny because I can tell you most of the people who played Medieval II never actually sailed to the americas.
I find it weird that a lot of people didn't know about this. I played this when I was 13 and as soon as I could recruit carracks my first instinct was to sail west. Pretty cool tbh
LOL that "Earth is round" event. People understood that the earth was a spherical celestial body continuously from when the theory was confirmed in the 3rd century BC onward-- that knowledge was never lost nor denied in the entire history of Christendom, and in fact spread on Christianity's back to all corners of Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire. People thought Columbus was crazy not because he said the Earth was round, but because his estimates for its diameter were hella conservative and most scholars recognized this.
No, no, you're thinking of heliocentricity: the notion that the Earth orbits the Sun. Aristotle, the ancient Greek philosopher, created a model for the solar system in which the Sun, Moon and planets were round and in orbit around one another; however, he placed Earth, not the Sun, at the center of this model, and pretty much everyone thereafter for centuries went along with it. Heliocentricity cropped up periodically, because there were some gaps in the geocentric (Earth-in-the-middle) theory; the early Renaissance saw multiple people, including Galileo and Copernicus, present this theory, but it wasn't until later that lenses were developed with sufficient magnifying power to prove it.
The Church went against these ancient teachings as any contradiction to the Bible could risk making it not credible, so the Church hid the books explaining it, and persecuted anyone who disagreed such as Bruno. Columbus had to convince the Spanish Queen the Earth was round before he could get any funding. If people already accepted the world was round by common knowledge why didn't people venture off before?
1. They went against philosophical principles wich would contradict their mainstream theology, but even that was mostly resolved by St. Thomas Aquinas. In general, all acient knowledge were widely studied by the scholars of the time. 2. The Church only started prohibiting books after the Protestant Reformation, wich is after the Age of Discovery had already started. 3. Bruno wasn't persecuted for scientific subjects. 4. Not true about Queen Isabella. The opposition was the exactly the same: Colombus had understimated the distance to Asia. The same reason why Portugal refused to fund him. It was ultimately accepted because it was a good bet. 5. They ventured before and failed, with ships never returning. The technological advancements were fundamental to the success of ocean travels.
Some Theologians taught that the earth was flat, however the magisterium has never taught such. That is to say, no pope ever declared it such, nor seemed to care. A matter of fact the Columbus trip makes more since if you assume it was round. At this time period the Byzantines were being over run by the Turks. Europe was losing access to the silk road and the churches in India lost contact with the rest of Christendom. They had been requesting for much time more priests, however they were not making it through Muslim territory. If Columbus could find a way to India through an ocean route he could reconnect Europe to India and China via trade as well as get more priests over to India as had been requested. So in summary the story of Christopher Columbus was a story of a Catholic man going to Catholic monarchs to fund a exploration voyage for the Catholic Church in order to reestablish communications with churches in India. The monarchs would of course be able to reap any rewards gained from new ocean trade. This is a trip that none of the parties involved would have been up to if they thought the world flat, and if it was something taught by the magisterium, then believing otherwise would be enough to get them excommunicated. On the other hand upon discovering this new land Christopher talked in letters to the Spanish monarchs to use the money to fund a crusade of the Holy land, and for the Pope to send priests to the new world in order to convert the locals. He did not find India but they still got what they were looking for. Wealth and converts. Why? because from the very beginning they believed the world round.
Yeah lol I just searched napoleon. Total war, and found a site for atilla total war and it led to Facebook where I read the replies to a message "medieval 3" and heard about it so I looked it up so it on a website, and it all made sense like where would the Aztecs be during the campaign and the fact that I had started a campaign as them once but never saved since it was weird with the terrain since I didn't see any countries.
Yes there is. You can only cross the deep sea wall with a carrack or grand carrack. It can only be built by having a dockyard which becomes available when the "world is round" event pops up at about year 1400.

If you make Mongols, Timurids your vassals you can transfer them to the New World by offering a territory there instead of that they possess in the Old World.
In the regular Medieval 2, the Americas wasn't all to complex, and when they live in the US, thats just them living there, or conquering rebels (toggle fog of war cheat can have you looking at America turn 1, theres rebels there) But in Medieval 2 Kingdoms, America campaign, theres a few Mexican factions, and then the Apaches (I think in vanilla, these would be labeled aztecs) and rebels in the US.
new easiest way. Wait till medieval kingdomes is on sale, buy it , play americas campaign. Done btw you can play as aztects mayans and it is so much more fun with alot of other factions
There is a mod that lets you play as any faction in the game. I chose to play as the Aztecs, then sailed across the atlantic and conquered Great Brittan :3
Ya this is my first campaign since I got this game on steam about a week ago. I also read that in either newer or older versions (like 1.0 or 1.2 or whatever) the gunpowder won't come till like turn 100 something. Thanks a lot for the help man!!!
Holy shit, what a coincidence. A few days ago, I did read that Carracks where capable of trans-atlantic journey but Id never figured out to actually test this. Wow, just wow.
thanks so much:) for You, Tom, I'm confusing about "how to go America", makes ne of My Family member takes 5 years since His sail, now I know where exactly is it, thanks again :)

@GDXTom Now I know what to do, but I am yet encountering problems. -_- When I click save, it says: Cannot save C:Programs blah-blah-blah-descr_script. And it won't let me save the file.
Well, if they could have fleshed out Eastern North and Central America then I'd agree with you. Otherwise, leaving only 1-3 provinces would've been a gimmick. Better to add more settlements and factions in Europe instead.
You are right if you think that the world is flat, which was the perception before the discovery of the New World. But if you maintain the globe aspect of the world and imagine curvy longitude and latitude lines on the mini map, it's not as diappointing, but yea its not that great for the purpose of the game.

how can you choose every faction in the campaining because i can only choose from spain , portugal , holy roman empire, venice , milan , france and england
Nevermind that was in test cases. Ok mine says 210 220 so I guess I will be getting it soon. I modded mine so the end date was 6000 instead of modding the timescale because that moves back all of the events. So thanks for you help a lot!!! I really appreciate it and I will subscribe if I haven't already
@mouthforwar17 You need to defeat it ( If I remember correctly) or unlock manualy by puting scotland from Unlockable to Unlocked (or something like that)
Guys there is an easier way but in invshowolves a little bit of cheating.... if you have the whole map unlocked/ seen if not type in toggle_fow into medieval shell. Put you cursor over the Americas and type into shell show_cursorstat" this will give you cords on the location then select a general and type move_character (character name) (coords) your character will jump to the new world and it will discover it.
The best thing in this game is you can use cheats .. make lot of many and build everything in any settlement and increase population ... make strong army .. After that .. you can start kicking other factions Asses :D great video if someone wanna play fair .. keep it up
