    Yes, but I mean a sushi is made out of vinegared rice (using rice vinegar), not plain rice. This has to be very bland, no?

      I was thinking the same thing, he forgot the vinegar. That, and I would have used fresh tuna and not canned.

    Well this was a lot of fun, we had a sushi overload for 2 days after! Remember there was a lot more rice because I originally planned to put it in the smaller bucket so didn’t have enough filling. Was also gonna season the rice then but as it was in the pan the chance to make it bigger was too good to turn down!     Such a good video Barry, but I just had to ask something. Doesn't sushi rice normally need a rice vinegar-salt/sugar mix mixed in before cooling down to get that classic sushi taste? That's usually what makes the rice sticky and hold together so nicely when rolling the sushi on the mat.

    Did anyone else's heart break each time he took the lid off of the rice? It's a huge no no when it comes to cooking sticky rice.

    I couldn’t think of anything I want more than a double bucket with a large hole so very useful! Though I think the best thing would be to keep until next Christmas and give to my wife as a present. What more could she want!

    That was way too much rice and the tiniest fraction of filling. Sorry but this was one of your worst attempts at large foods. I know it must be pretty hard to try for a sushi roll but I would like to see a re-attempt or V 2.0 in the future with half the rice and triple the filling. You could even just do a california style one with seafood fishsticks instead of raw fish or flaked tuna.

    Barry, I’d love the buckets because my African Grey parrot Gizmo would have hours of fun playing with it and inside it! I felt actual joy when you flipped that giant sushi it looks amazing!!!

    09:40 To answer your question, more mass absorbs more heat. Plus, since the rice itself acts like an insulator, the larger mass has a slower dissipation rate, all of which means that to cool it, you'll need roughly 2x-3x the time indicated on the box. To combat these time crunches, high-volume sushi restaurants have specialized rice cookers that are shallow, but a meter or more across. This means more surface area, allowing the rice to cool quicker.

    Barry you could of used a silicon sheet that you use for baking or cooking as the bamboo sheet to use it to roll the sushi and love the videos

    It makes me mental that you use canned tuna for sushi. That is not sushi, that is canned tuna wrapped in rice and nori. I know tuna is expensive but there are cheaper fish or hell you could've done a California roll which uses imitation crab. I know it is a really dumb thing ttobe annoyed by but I seriously can't be the only one who this drives crazy.

    Barry you forgot to season your rice! When I was a sushi chef our sushi vinegar consisted of a generic sushi vinegar, sugar, lemons, and kombu.

      I did talk about that in the video but it got edited out I think I planned to do that but as the pan ended up being the mould I just kept it in

    There's way too much rice in that sushi, the ratio of rice to other ingredients should be more like 50/50. Also, it looks really hard to eat, but it's a fun novelty I guess. Should have used raw tuna though.

    I actually watched this during my lunch break yesterday and literally was eating sushi but a sushi burrito. I attempted to make my own sushi once with a kit but it turned out to be monster sushi rolls that after that I left sushi making up to the pros! Some foods are better that way! But this! This beats them all!!! That was fun to watch!!

    If you’d used raw sushi tuna or salmon, it would have more integrity. Canned tuna is too flaky. Congratulations.

    That crispy layer at the top is called tadig. It's the best part of Persian (long grain basmati) rice. Should try so Persian recipes though.

    Sushi is made with vinegar in the rice as a saltness for flavor, Kimbap is made using sesame oil for flavoring as a sweeter alternative to sushi.
