- A prince and his nerdy put-upon twin brother in a terrifying retelling of Sleeping Beauty where the slumbering princess is really a bloodthirsty vampire.
Charming: "Melvins blood is much more your type. Type O. As in 'Oh! That tastes good!'"
Melvin: "I think I hate you Chuck."
It cracked me up as a kid, it still cracks me up now lol.
Goes to show; looks don’t make you charming and get you anywhere.
Having a good heart, and loyalty does. Im very happy Melvin got the happiness he deserved ❤
I remember when I saw this episode as a kid. I loved that Melvin got the girl and his punk brother got his comeuppance.
*I never missed out any chapter of this series when I was 6 yrs... now that I watch this vid at my 30's, it brings me back to my childhood days again*
Our boy Melvin getting some. You go Melvin!
Melvin rocks!
I don’t think I caught on when I watched this as a kid that Chuck and Splendor probably got turned into vampires from drinking the cursed moat, or that they showed Sleeping Beauty’s reflection in Melvin’s glasses to confirm she wasn’t undead. Also, I guess all the previous undead princes got dusted off screen as they were outside during sunrise.
Man, Prince Chuck "Charming" is such a lousy, vain jerk! At least he got what he deserved. And as for Melvin, I am glad he got to live happily ever after with the real Sleeping Beauty!
+Catherine Ray
Indeed i'm glad Melvin is the real hero
Yeah, he sure is selfish. He abandoned his own brother
Johnlindsey289 well Melvin was nothing but heroic throughout the entire episode. He keeps saving his brother's sorry arse which is sad that the older brother (by ten seconds) is the one that has to rely on the younger brother (by ten LOUSY seconds). I think Melvin is more charming than chuck. Not to mention, more brave, diligent, humble so it only makes since that he gets the girl instead of the vain, cowardly, lazy jerk.
I love a guy with brains anyway. ❤️😍❤️
@@ashebennett7726 me too. Most of the time it's all about the personality instead of the appearance. If someone has a kind, good hearted personality, it always shines through even if ones appearance wasn't as attractive. If someone is beautiful in the outside but cruel and mean then they are truly hideous in comparison.
Sadly they don't live happily ever after. How do we know this? Well, there is the Bean Stalk episode that takes places after this and Chuck/Charming and Splendor/Steve are no longer vampires and Melvin is still adventuring with his twin brother.
I like this version of Sleeping Beauty than the Disney version.
+Jenny Armstrong I did enjoy the classic disney film, though it lacks character development. But the newer one with Angelina Jolie is a joke.
+Syncretic Views I kind of enjoyed the Jolie film, however, I was kind of disappointed about the three fairies. In the book, Grimms Fairytales, and the animated version, it had three wise fairies. In the Jolie version , it had three ditzy and not so wise fairies. I hated the fairies.
+Owen Kyte Wow. No need to get hostle. Its just a movie. Dude. . relax. :)
Jenny Armstrong Or that she didn't turn into a dragon at the end
Jenny Armstrong I like both versions disney cartoon film and Jolie version and the tales from the crypt version
XD
I love how Prince Charming and Splendor somehow remembered the handsome check despite being vampires and got upset about losing it of all disadvantages
This show really holds up! I remember watching this from 1998-2002 as re-runs 👻
Definitely one of the best episodes this series has to offer and a terrific adaptation of the comic book version. Perhaps better than the comic this story is based on!
I will be re-watching this show and the TFTC HBO series till I am in my own crypt 💀
"She doesn't reflect!"
"I don't care about her mind Melvin!"
Any Prince Charming who says those words is NO Prince Charming at all!!
@@jasminnemcdonald94A Prince Charmless haha
@@Amadeus8484 Prince charming is a scumbag. For ditching his brother
@@davidwilson-wh1nl He was long before that I think but agreed
@@Amadeus8484 what would you do if it was your brother
Well, Chuck and his horse have to stay out of the sun…Forever
Serves you right Chuck almost getting your brother turned into a vampire
I'm gonna take a big shot and say those people are handsome princes from the past
Chuck and his horse suffered a fate worse than death.
@@davidwilson-wh1nl Yeah, all those who awoke the vampire beauty, fought her and failed.
And now they can't see their handsome looks as they have no reflection.
This Prince Charming makes the the one from shrek look like a saint
Honestly surprised the Witcher novels never had a premise like this. Seems right in line with the mix of horror, adventure, and satire the books had going on
Yeah, but They have Handsome Jack up in here, before he was ever even conceived!!! So this Handsome Jack is the OG!!! Shit Yeah!!! Good Old Crypt Keeper!!!
🖕😎👍
@@johnjones6049 Yess!
The Voice of the Cryptkeeper himself John Kassir is always a great narrator & storyteller. This version of Sleeping Beauty is very twisted & scary.
Loved this episode as a kid, fun to watch it again. Glad to see Melvin get the girl in the end!
LOL... BEST version of "Sleeping Beauty" I've ever heard, absolutely genius way to twist a fairy tale.
How the heck did Chuck get turned into a vampire though? I can only assume that he was infected when he kissed her, but that doesn't explain how the heck the horse got turned.
And why did the vampire "princess" look like a freakish blue zombie with sabre teeth? All of the other vampires in the castle looked relatively human.
Melvin: "I think I hate you, Chuck."
Ya know I just wonder what their parents were like... we're they as vain as Chuck, or overly pompusly pampering him while ignoring Melvin
thery're both one in the same to me
I remember this episode. Poor Chuck forgot that in fairy tales, it's usually the youngest child who comes out on top.
I love this show chuck and melvin are funny 😆
A medieval castle that has blueprints? And the blueprints say that there's a room full of bats? Seems legit.
what else would you do with your bats? keep them in the kitchen?
namekman01 wouldn't it make more since to keep them in the dungeon? Or in the open windowed tower? 🤷🏻♀️
@@ashebennett7726 those two would only make sense if you DIDNT have a room specially designed for bats. especially if its complete with air conditioning and guano drainage, which, are usually gravity fed, and thus need to be atleast above basement. trust me, im a really GHOOOUL architect!
Tales from the Cryptkeeper: (1993-1994) - TV The Animated Series "The Sleeping Beauty" 0:00/22:40
Language: English USA 🇱🇷
Prince Charming has only two goals in life: to look marvelous and to reach the castle 🏰 of Sleeping Beauty.
In a terrifying retelling of the classic fairytale, a self-absorbed prince named Chuck Charming and his nerdy put-upon twin brother Melvin go on a quest to wake the Sleeping Beauty, the slumbering princess 👸👑, whom unbeknownst to them, is really a bloodthirsty vampire.
October 23, 1993
I really hate Melvin's older brother right now and right now i'm glad that aggorant self center jerk is turned into a vampire so at least melvin is very happy with a very pretty attractive looking girl so good job melvin.
Chuck reminds me of Beetlejuice when he yells, seeing as how Stephen Oumiette voices both of them.
Ah how I loved this show and Redwall as a kid. Thanks for the upload.
I'm lovin' this episode of Tales Of The Cryptkeeper
"Ten seconds... ten LOUSY seconds!"
Yeah, and unfortunately, Melvin, that makes all the difference to Chuck.
How did Chuck and his horse become vampires. They weren't bit.
It could be the water from the moat surrounding the castle.
Karma
He was too handsome for his own good.. i guess 😂
@@animefan25this is likely is the case, as only Melvin does not partake in any of the cursed water.
Just goes to show you, life is unfairly weighted for the beautiful, vain and stupid. The only true justice can be found in the dark of eternity.
i watched this with johnny quest and darkwing duck.. i hated getting up early but i had no problem getting up early for my favorite shows
man I miss this show Saturday morning right after land of the lost on ABC
melvin comes out on top while chuck's doomed to never see his face again
Charming is such a dick, leaving his brother to be vampire food. Least Melvin gets the girl and he'll get some booty for all the trouble his brother put him through, lol.
+Darnell Tucker And Charming will never get to see his own face again.
+Darnell Tucker
Melvin got laid while his jock moron of a brother gets to be a vampire.
***** Karma's a bitch isn't it?
*****
Yes and what a happy ending for Melvin eh?
***** Yep. Charming was a coward while Melvin was brave enough to face danger head on the whole time. He deserves a happy ending.
I was 11 when this aired on ABC as i loved the HBO series since it debuted when i was 7 and collected back issues of EC horror/sci-fi/suspense comics and rented the 1972 Amicus Crypt film at 8 after hearing about it in fangoria magazine and taped Vault of Horror off HBO at 10.
Nya, how weird. I remembered this episode a little differently O.O In my memories the vampire woman was as evil as here and was scary but she was a sexy vampire with two small fangs and a malicious, devious expression. Basically a sexy woman with fangs in a tight black dress. She had his vampiric form from the beginning. I remember that I was surprised because the normal thing in the show is that the monsters had a scary design and in this case that didn't happen. As it happens here Chuck doesn't realize the danger, although its pretty obvious, until the end, although everything is very evident to Melvin and in the end they both escape together. Chuck apologizes for being so arrogant although in the final seconds he makes an arrogant comment again.
I even have the memory of a second episode where they met the same vampire again in another twisted version of a classic story in which she took the place of another princess. (Maybe Rapunzel?) Neither of them seemed to identify her as "the vampire who almost killed us that time" and escaped again when they were about to be caught. In fact, I have the sensation of having seen a third episode with them as the main characters and think immediately upon seeing them "At any moment the vampire will appear again".
However, when investigating I discovered that such episodes don't exist, but a version of "Jack and the beanstalk" in which a cyclops appears. It's very weird. In addition to the intro, the sexy vampire was the second thing that struck me the most about this series when I was little and apparently she never existed O.O
Does anyone else have similar memories to mine? Is there an episode in "Tales of the cryptaker" where a vampire like the one I describe comes out and in my head I have mixed two different episodes? Is this a new Mandela effect? I am absolutely baffled! O.O
My sister and I used to make fun of the goofy hand movements she does at 19:51 😂
This was a great Episode I Remember watch this when I was a Kid in the 90s Ah those were the days although I always wondered what happened to chuck I hope he's alright.
+Daniel Bertazzon
Well his brother became a prince while Chuck spends his days sucking blood
he was already a blood sucker if you think about it.
this was actually based on an issue from the original Tales from The Crypt but the ending was different
if anyone knows the number of said issue it would be greatly appreciated.
The Sleeping Beauty!" from Tales from the Crypt #39

The comic version is much shorter, but I do like certain elements about it better. For example, the ending is a little darker and the gold dagger that repels the thick, impenetrable brambles is never mentioned in this version - OH, and Chuck and Melvin not being related came off better imo.
Melvin's voice sounds familiar. In fact, I do believe he is voiced by John Stocker. AKA Richard P. Fungus from Stunt Dawgs, and Ankylo from Dinosaucers!
It is him. Karen Bernstein (Sailor Mercury) was the Vampire and Stephen Ouimette (Archangel from the X-Men 90s cartoon) was Chuck
@@ShadowSonic2 Awesome!
Oh my God, such memories!
It was one of the two best episodes of the series. Like, if you only remembered one episode, it was probably this one.
Too bad Charming had such a vein personality.
this really made my child hood that much better
The first noblewoman that Chuck kisses is really Countess Dracula.
Or the princess's evil sister who's cursed as a vampire during the curse.
Lmao.
this was the shit back then. I used to sneak-watch this in like 3 am when I was a kid. many pants were harmed.
3AM? It was on then?
Yeah, my same thoughts lol. Where I live it was showed on weekend mornings like 7/8am time slot in the late 90s/early 2000s.
i just watched the "works in wax" episode and now realize that boy running into the crypt keepers mansion is the same kid! wonder if anyone else noticed that hahah
Great Show, Brings Back Memories, Also Love The Movies! Reminds Me Of Creepshow 1,2,3.
Creepshow 3 sucked, Tales from the Darkside The Movie is the real Creepshow 3 with Romero and King involved the Darkside show was a Creepshow spin-off show.
And you like Tales from the Crypt live-action HBO series and the 1972 movie and Vault of Horror?
Jack had it coming
Sweet childhood memories :))))
These shows scared the shit out of me as a child
I'm guessing it's because both Chuck and his horse drank the moat water. Notice that when Melvin was about to drink it, he saw his head turn into a skull. Probably means its cursed. Chuck would have never noticed.
I loved this cartoon as much as I did the live version
Good for Melvin
Goosebumps reference. Love it.
Looks like "Prince Charming" isn't so charming.
You can say that again.🙄
They have Handsome Jack up in here, before he was ever even conceived!!! So this Handsome Jack is the OG!!! Shit Yeah!!! Good Old Crypt Keeper!!!
🖕😎👍
I love Chuck, he's such a fruit.
He's Gaston
He's a himbo.
Melvin: 10 seconds. 10 lousy seconds.
Chuck: Timing Melvin. Timing.
This story was based on Tales From The Crypt # 39. I prefer the cartoon's ending though.
This version is a heck of a lot better. The original tale was more of a satire than a straight out horror tale, and the reveal that the princess is actually a vampire is merely the punchline. I especially love that they gave Melvin a bigger part here as the prince's NOT identical twin brother.
@@glowworm2idk. I thought the original fairytale was pretty freaking terrifying.
@@ashebennett7726agreed. I actually think the comic version is better, but the cartoon variant is charming in its own right.
@@glowworm2Eh, taste is subjective and I rather *prefer* the comic version because it’s shorter and gets right to the point. I adore how they sprinkle little information throughout, hinting at a much darker reality to the princess and the ‘sleeping’ Kingdom she inhabit’s.
Apparently, Melvin may be the guy his parents like best because he's more responsible.
This is why Prince Charming has a rotten personality.
NO...
Stephen Ouimette, the same guy voiced the cartoon version of BEETLEJUICE, voiced Chuck?! O_o
I thought that scream @ 10:57 sounded familiar! XD
awesome ending!!!!!
ty couldn't show blood so they made the thorn vines blood green... ah childhood
I want those old cartoons back. Cartoons nowadays all look like shit compared to this and the old Disney cartoons.
How did chuck contract the disease? Kissing the false beauty perhaps?
But then what about splendor?
+Katie Persons I think it was the water they drank. If you notice when they're drinking from the moat, only Melvin didn't drink because of what he saw would happen.
+Katie Persons Probably the Vampire Kiss. Chuck probably kissed Splendour when he did his handsome check. But the theory about the water is possible.
@@knightofhastur Yes! The water is a foreshadowing of death. Chuck and Splendor were not so lucky, but they seem to be alright since the Bean Stalker episode confirms they are human again.
"MY SILLY SISSIFIED SHRIMP SIZED SIBLING"
Chuck's narcissism is aggravating!
It really is!
The prince and the horse off open tires happily ever after the end

When does Chuck become a vampire?
I think drinking the moat's water did that.
@@ShadowSonic2100% since the horse also partakes.
Hey wait a second, this twist doesn't make any sense. If both the prince and the horse were vampires, how were they not turned to dust by the sunlight?
Could be a slow acting change, didn't take full effect til the end
@@ShadowSonic2 eh makes sense I suppose.

Yes, the princess he’s of vampire
I can tell that this was a Teletoon (now the current Cartoon Network Canada) airing; probably around the early 2000s.

Princess is a 🧛🏻♂️ kingdom it just had a flashing
Demon book says the vampire don’t have a fleshed
Even pompous nobles hated fops like "Chuck".
Chuck sounded like Homer Simpson from 21:31-21:34.
In fact, both Mr Purdy and Chuck on the programme do sound like Homer Simpson when they have any type of scream.
