- Greetings everyone! Today's episode will feature another one of Academy's massive CH-53E in 1/48 scale. This is going to be part 1 of a 3 part series of Marine Corps Helicopters that I made.

Amazing work! This must have taken forever. I used to be aircrew on the 53E back in the 90s (HMH-464). It's really great to see the amount of detail added to this "shitter". I hope when I finally build mine it looks half as good.
I think the bulk of the time was spent just making sure the lights would work, actual build of the kit isn't too bad. Its a big kit, but once you get to the painting stage, it goes pretty quickly.
Direct drive it. It looks beautiful I am doing research on converting a yu Xiang Blackhawk into this. What a beauty. Would love to see it fly. Great video.

I really wish they would re-release this kit so we don’t have to pay $250 dollars for it. I doubt any company will make a new one. Awesome job on the build!

Same! I saw the other video come up while looking for new stuff and instantly wanted one until I started looking up the kits and even opened ones are stupidly expensive and the factory sealed ones I've found are running like 300+. My mom works right next to a squadron that operates these and wanted to build one.
I've just bought a 1/48 MH-53E Sea Dragon that are coming into the UK
shops. Priced at £54 British pounds. Would you consider this ?

@@paulmorgan6269 54 pounds sounds like a bargain to me, I can find kit 12703 at one place in the US, but its going for nearly double the price you paid, so I'd say you made out pretty well! While, the MH-53E has some differences from the CH-53E, it should still build up into a nice replica!

Absolutely beautiful work. The level of detail in the rotor is awesome. Wish we could have seen the wiring and lighting process, but that's a challenge for another day, a different aircraft. Right?
Thats kind of you to say. I will admit, I don't love doing lights on my models, because when they aren't done right they don't look good to me. But I wont rule out another project with lights.

Thank you. I believe that part is an optical sensor or some sort, most likely forward looking infrared.

Been looking for this kit for literally 5 years. I finally tracked one down last week but ended up paying almost $300 for it. What I wouldn’t give for a re release of this and the Sea Dragon kit.
Yeah, they aren't cheap these days. I too wish they would re release the kit, I'd like to build one for myself.
Nice build. That GAU-21 ramp mount is a pain to scratch build. Took me a week to figure it out, then I had to build it. Anywhoo, would you have any suggestions to the extending of the landing gears? I'm motorizing mine for flight mode.
Thats a good question, I think the most straight forward solution would be to cut off the oleo scissors and remove the oleo strut and replace it with a slight longer length of brass tube, then rebuild the scissors.
I would like to see more about you wired the lights. I have a 1/72 c47 that Want to Build with Lightning inside and nav lights
It was pretty basic, I wired all of the interior lights (8 in the main cabin, 1 in the cockpit in parallel and then the 3 navigation lights in parallel and ran both sets of lights to the positive/negative magnets I used to complete the circuit to the battery box. The battery box houses two CR2032 batteries. Will run the lights for about 6 hours on a charge at a time. Hope this helps. I'm not very knowledgeable about electronics, so it was a bit of a DIY job.

Yo' Hammer, true story, I was in the Marine Corp ,and have extensive time as a passenger in the Huey, Ch 46, and the Ch 53....I was a 0311...I was afforded the opportunity to Become a Repel Master......(Air Assult) for layman's term...anyway I we were flying Nap of the Earth, and I was next to the crew chief looking for a place to extract from.....and I was standing in a small pool of hydraulic fluid and it was Dripping on my Flack vest, any leaned over and told me if this bird is not leaking this bird is not flying then he pointed out a bag of kitty litter and told me that's how they fix it so next time you build a Marine Corps version of a helicopter make a small modification of a bag of kitty litter

Yes, but I had to rough the surface of the magnets a little, and I noticed that they lost some strength after I soldered them. But not enough for it to not work.
this is just awesome! would you do this for a ITALERI V-22 Osprey?
If I was doing it for myself, I probably wouldn't do the lights, although, the Osprey would be similar enough to the Stallion that one could use the same set up for the lights. I would like to do an Osprey eventually.

oh and how did you get them to turn on? are they battery powered? can you be detailed please? sorry but im just so excited to add lights to a V-22 that I have
@@dianaweidler5001 yes, the lights are powered by a battery pack that is disguised as a piece of cargo that rests in the back.

@@dianaweidler5001 The client supplied the lights. They were a series of micro LEDs from a company called Edgelec.
What lights did you use and how did you fix them in place? Many thanks
I used LEDs from a company called Edgelec and they were secured in place with superglue.
