See I began to hate batman as both the hero and his billionaire alter ego Bruce Wayne. HE totally could have done far more to help people, because asdie from him being filthy wealthy ( far more than rich) and his always letting villains like Joker live, made me hate him before I was in middle school. It was a great episode and I always remembered him in that hot box. Very reminiscent of the types of punishment they put people through in the south from mississippi to texas.

The Dark Knight Rises in particular almost seem to go out of the way to make his attempts at philanthropy seem counterproductive. Spending billions on his toys and practically throwing money in a fire just as part of his cover as a rich eccentric was a drop in the bucket he'd make back popping in to a board meeting for five minutes but putting his genius towards his business full time and focusing on those very issues nearly bankrupts Wayne Enterprises? A near infinite source of cheap energy - one that would realistically give him a global energy monopoly making reliable bank forever - and it only had the one investor that (spoiler alert) was deliberately trying to ruin him and in the end wanted an insanely impractical bomb?

yeah thats what i wish more adaptions would do, while Batman fights crime and instills fear in criminals, the Bruce Wayne side uses his wealth and influence to help people and give them hope, instead of just having him put on a rich playboy front to help distract people from the fact that he is also BAtman

I think that the newest Robert Pattinson Batman seems to go into that (or, at least, is beginning to). If there's future movies that show Bruce (both as himself and as Batman) stepping up to help the less fortunate, then it'll probably be a Batman movie series that stands out in it's own right. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Doing his very best both inside the costume and outside of it to help them towards a path of good. (remember that one episode when TwoFace sees Bruce at the entrance of Arkham as he was being escorted back? Good old, Bruce. Always there, you never give up on me dont ya?)

Episodes like this one really captured the Heart and Soul of Batman... that fact that a DC Super Hero Cartoon series was not afraid to face the Shadow of the Psyche, the tenderness of the Philanthropist Bruce Wayne, and unsettling aspects like poverty and abuse of Power of Gotham City, made this series such a cutting-edge and heart-rending series. Very few day-time cartoon Batman Series as well as Superhero series, in general, can come close to this one!

I enjoy the premise and especially that moment where Batman goes deep inside thinking and discover few details that make it much development for Batman's character. I love that moment where Bruce wanted to save and give people to the poor, but he was suffered for seeing many people wanted to have much charity and tears have so much emotional. When I was a kid, I loved this episode for the music (and that one funny guy. (And how the villain reminded me of Hoggish Greedly.))
Older now, and the themes about Bruce's altruism hit me much harder. The way he'll never have enough to help all the needy, is practically a metaphor for his never-ending war on crime. It's an unwinnable thing. But that doesn't mean giving up.

This episode is really a social commentary of how men who are down on their luck was fooled into promise of a better start ended up being slaves at a labor camp, in Bruce dreams while still suffering from amnesia and helping the needy and shed a tear knowing how much of a good person he is he can't save everyone, also when his cell mate got locked up in the box next to Bruce when he said "I missed my family " you can hear the pain in his voice and awakening Bruce's memories back this episode don't get talked much and props for Alfred who never left Bruce's side and did his own detective work to find him

To me, this and Underdwellers were focused on the noir aspect of Batman. Anyone else from Batman's Rogues Gallery, it's just a superhero story. But when it's about someone like the Underweller King or Boss Biggs we see the corrupt and selfish aspects of people to take advantage of others. There were a few episodes like this; no big villains, just people. It expanded the world and showed you don't need a gimmick to be considered a bad guy.

This is definitely one of the episodes that stuck with me growing up.
That moment in the hotbox when the shouts of: “my family!” Finally remind Bruce Wayne of exactly who he is,
And the end joke of the one guy asking to be knocked out so he can get amnesia only to get his memory back and remember that he’s a millionaire.

You're right. This is a very underrated episode. I appreciate that Bruce deeply cares for the poor and uses subterfuge to investigate the problem rather than simply beating the crap out of goons. And I love that he suffers amnesia to make him more vulnerable to exploitive taskmasters and connect him more to his fellow workers. "The Forgotten" is not only one of the most heart-tugging episodes butone of the most relatable. There are still stories of undocumented immigrants and poor native-born being abused in factories, farms, and mines. You'd expect Batman to only engage in obvious crime, but no, he can focus on social justice too. The only thing holding it back is the lackluster animation. Oh, and the Caped Crusader sounding too tame when dealing with that fat monster. I'd expect him to be a lot angrier, given Boss Fatass' deeds.

We had a taped version of this episode when I was a kid, but we'd turned on the VCR late and didn't have anything before him waking up in the camp for the first time. I had NO IDEA why on earth he was there, but I still loved the episode to death (especially because of the music)!

A top knotch episode. I like when Batman switches to detective mode. Something that happens less and less as the series continues. And that Alfred turns detective too in order to find Brice is fantastic.

I love episodes as these where it makes you think. They took so much care in the show that nothing can compare to it. It's in depth on the character action and thought. This one is my favorite it shows behind the mask and what kind of man that Bruce is other than "I'm Batman." It shows more than his parents being killed, it shows his wishes and knows deep down he can't help them while trying to figure out who he is. I think the anemsia works well here for Bruce already know this but we the audience get a glimpse to his mind and it goes much deeper. For a cartoon to pull a story like that is amazing and to this day I argue why cartoon is more just a kid show. I think this episode was the first for me as a kid to think what I saw and actual inspire me to write a simple character.

This show has so many great episodes but some are stuck like cement in my memory. This one, the one when a bunch of Batman enemies are retelling times when they almost succeeded in killing Batman and the one with the friends that became mobsters in different gangs are some of them.

This is my favourite episode involving Batman period!
The scene with panhandlers and Bruce crying because he feels helpless still emotionally wrecks me.
Shows how much he feels like the problem of Gotham is his burden and his burden alone. Be it as a caped crusader or the riches man in the states.
This series did a fantastic job humanizing both Bruce and Batman. Todays movies and shows just portray him as antisocial rich kid with anger issues.
Even in this series Batman was always intimidating, but god damn it. He showed more humanity than anywhere else. Batman/Bruce bleed, not just from knife wounds. But from the deep scars on their soul every time he looks either from the rooftop of a building or from his mansion in his PJs

This was a very good episode and the story of Bruce with amnesia was a cool concept, my favourite moments of the episode was when you see Bruce walking in the hall of mirrors and he sees a reflection of himself turning into the Joker, that was cool and the other was when he finally got his memory after the prisoner says I miss my family. It had a wild western hillbilly theme to it and that made it a lot of fun

One of the reasons being the storyline about how homeless people were being abducted and no one really seemed to care not even the G.C.P.D. Second that musical track that played throughout this episode. It sounded like a track you might hear from "In the Heat of the Night".
