I agree that his change was a bit too sudden. I mean there was set up, sure, but it feels kind of anticlimactic that all of a sudden, Murdoc’s changed and he’s better now. I think the story about how he escaped prison itself was pretty half-assed as well, it was just all over the place (typical gorillaz writing for ya there), but the responses murdoc gave kind of make up for all of that. And omg I stan a non-transphobic king!! In a previous chat as well, if you tell him that you’re gay he’ll reply with “good for you!”, (it’s even better because Murdoc is bisexual) I love him sm 😭 he did THAT. And also Murdoc’s always been murdad! 2D, Russel and Murdoc have always been Noodle’s guardians. I just love the fact that Murdoc really loves Noodle bc gorillaz is the closest to a family he’s ever gotten criiii

Like they dont know if they want to be a complex history or just a goofy episodical(?) thing (which is also great!!) so it's just like. Confusing and out of place, hype that leads to nowhere most of the time. If I didn't love the music and art with all my heart and I didn't got actually kinda attached to the characters I wouldn't be here I think, hah.

Tbh, I think we as fans deserve a thorough, well-paced story to make a Murdoc redemption arc feel believable and earned. This chat was just...rushed. As much as I love the responses murdoc gave, disingenuous or not, this conclusion to phase 5 (?) doesn’t feel satisfying. Unless there’s more to come but as far as I know, gorillaz are taking a break for a few years. So this chat might be the last thing we get from them in a while.

People keep saying he's bi and I've done some research on it and there are some subtle pointers indicating that he is. How did you come to the conclusion that he is bi?
He is. There’s quite a lot of evidence that he’s shown attraction to/slept with men. It would take all day to list all of them but basically, the gorillaz writers have always hinted at murdoc’s bisexuality (most frequently in phase 4 and 5 actually. There are a lot of responses from the murdoc bot and other interviews that proves he likes men). He’s never been explicitly referred to as “bisexual” but there’s a lot that proves that he likes both men and women. Gorillaz even confirmed that noodle is bi/pan in a RUclips q&a they did a few months ago. I actually thought about making a video about this lol maybe I should but most of the evidence is written; there are only some videos where he talks about it.
I mean, I've always gotten the vibe that he was. But with all the damn 2Doc shippers trying to press it on people, I didn't want to believe it. Cause I don't like 2Doc. Hell shipping any members of the band together just doesn't sit well with me. I see them more as a bit of a disfunctional family of sorts. Same thing with Noodle. Expect she doesn't really hint about it as much as Murdoc does. But thank you for that. I had the feeling but I didn't want to assume. People are even trying to say 2-D is gay or bi, which I don't believe for a second. He/they hasn't hinted at anything about him being that way. Plus, he's always been shown with having girlfriends. I understand that, I hate the ships too. I try to stay objective as possible though on my channel because I know how this fanbase reacts to any discourse about shipping. I agree though, they’ve always intended for the band to be a sort of dysfunctional family; Noodle being the one who binds them all together. And as for 2D and Murdoc, I don’t think anything is going on between them but I really find their relationship fascinating and I like their relationship to be platonic. I could literally write a whole essay about those two lol. But anyway, I appreciate what they’re doing with Murdoc’s sexuality. It’s not the best lgbt representation but I like that they don’t make a big deal about it whenever the subject is brought up. He doesn’t really flaunt it but they don’t shy away from it either.
