The original Buena Vista Social Club album was recorded for World Circuit Records over six days at the vintage EGREM studios in Havana. Released in 1997, the album went on to become a worldwide phenomenon, selling over 8 million copies and contributing to the rise in popularity of Cuban, as well as Latin American, music.
Since forming in London in the mid-1980s, World Circuit Records has made its reputation by producing some of the finest albums of the past three decades. The label’s prestigious roster includes Buena Vista Social Club and associated solo artists (including Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, Omara Portuondo and Orlando ‘Cachaíto’ López), Malian blues pioneer Ali Farka Touré, Malian divas and social activists Oumou Sangaré and Fatoumata Diawara, master kora player Toumani Diabaté, the illustrious Orchestra Baobab, musical iconoclast Cheikh Lô, and Fela Kuti’s legendary drummer and co-creator of Afrobeat Tony Allen.

The way they phrase it makes it seem like people only know about that song because of that association with said movie or TV show.

Omara Portuondo y Compay Segundo, en mi opinión no se pueden comparar con Nora e Isaac, porque la versión de estos niños, es fresca , bonita ,curiosa y extraña, sin embargo esta pieza no tiene comparación son los originales , son cubanos llevan esta musica y el "tumbao" en la sangre...
Muy bien dicho...detesto la gente que compara , sin tomar en cuenta ventajas y desventajas, con respecto a los tiempos en que fueron realizadas dichas ejecuciones
Y ganaron el Grammy por el disco 🙄
De hecho estos no son los interpretes originales. Esa distinción le correspondería, en todo caso, a Maria Teresa Vera qué fue quien la popularizo y además participo en su creación. Bien cabria decir que Omara y Compay están "covereando", tal como lo hicieron Bebo Valdes y El Cigala, y ahora más recientemente Nora e Isaac. El chiste es no dejas que estas canciones y ritmos se olviden, y si las nuevas generaciones las están interpretando, o reinterpretando, adelante. Hablar de comparaciones me parece que sale sobrando.
