You are a great educator. I really appreciate your beautiful decorating style,it inspires me. Your inclusion of features of the local towns is great too. I look through the shelves as you pan by to see what jumps out at me and I love seeing the landscape of your country . Linda

My grandpa had one of those kangaroos on his bedside table! Kept his wallet in the side and his Mickey Mouse watch in the pouch. When he passed, my uncle took the Kangaroo. So my mom bought me my own! It’s been on my bedside since and holds my rings and phone at night!

That piece of industrial looking wood used to be a planer, I think. It would have had a metal piece that fit into the slot. A carpenter would run it back and forth over a piece of wood to take the bumps out and level the top.

I think you have to get older to appreciate what is now considered vintage. I had a shoe cobbler make me a pair of leather sandles when I was a teenager, I'm 80 now. I wore those things out, even had them repaired a few times. I wish I had had him to make two pair. Even back then they were pricey.

My dad had one of those kangaroos on his dresser as long as I can remember..just like the one you picked up. He put his wallet in the side opening, hung his watch on the tail and put his pocket change in the pouch every day he got home from work. I was born in the early 50's 😁. Every time I see one, I think of him 💓

I’m so happy to hear that you’re back to it! It’s sooo competitive here in Portland too so I get it. Takes away from some of the fun of it but I’ve found going to thrift stores and less estate sales helps keep it light hearted and fun! It got so depressing seeing people push and shove at estate sales 😞 ❤️

So many good finds! I know what that old wooden thing was I think!- an antique planer (plainer?) (that thing that makes wood boards flat) There would be a metal piece that fits in there to shave down your board and the wood part is a guide. I only know this bc my dad is a woodworker and he has some antique ones decorating his shop from my great grandpa ;)

My dad had one of those kangaroo holders for change, keys, etc. That's a lot of them!! My dad did a lot of leather tooling and also copper tooling. I have a set of Javanese dancer heads he did in 1954 and won blue ribbon in Coastal Empire Fair in Savanah, GA! I wouldn't take anything for them. Also an unborn calf purse he made for mom as well as a purse he did for me. After he passed, I found some of his copper sheets he had started. They are safely tucked away. Somewhere! Ok girlie, I'm gonna be Debbie Downer! My intent is only to help tho. This is the second time I've seen you pick up a piece of aluminum and call it pewter. Aluminum was at its most popular in the mid century era and affordable for the average income household. In its earliest days, it was valued higher than gold. Pewter items are much heavier due to their lead content and was at it's height of popularity during the colonial period and forward. Items were made in molds vs. aluminum being hand hammered, twisted and deeply engraved with flowers often. Hope this helps. Always enjoy your enthusiasm and being to go along on your shopping trips! Paula in Wa.

Oh boy, shopping with Laura! Perfect on a cold, snowy day! My Dad had one of those kangaroos. He put his pipe in the front “pouch” and his tobacco bag in the opening in the back. Just before you showed the Siamese cat (gravel) I spied a wooden horse behind a pair of red and black (Asian?) horses. Looks like a Norwegian fjord horse (fjordhest) with that arched crest. I would have grabbed that. :-) I rarely see Scandi things where I live. Fun!

I just cannot believe the numbers of resale shops in the Portland area - just amazing! We have nothing like them here...but we do have farm auctions there we can get furniture for pennies...A few years back I saw an entire 193-'s dining room set, table & chairs $5.00 and a china cabinet $5.00. Thats the only way I could afford to purchase furniture to redo, chalk paint and sell.

My husband has been making hand tooled leather pieces since he was in high school in the 70’s. I have several bags he made for his mother from that time period that I love. He has also made wallets for me and belts. He’s very talented.

That swan shaped pink vase (or pitcher)with black stripping and floral motif is vintage. I noticed a matching candle stick holder next to it. I believe it is from Hull in 1955. I have the candlestick holders and a gravy boat shaped vase my Mom had since the 1950's.

My dad had a kangaroo too, which he gave to me in the late 70's, I loved it but my apt. was totaled due to fire. It brought back great memories.. Thank you.

Great finds! I love that purse, and I will be adding one to my list to watch out for. I love your videos. Your lunch looked so tasty and seeing the view from the restaurant was a lovely addition. Thanks!

Corduroy pants definitely let someone know your coming, during these days of covid, people are forewarned to put their mask back on. Ok, maybe not a great warning since most may not remember what that sounds like 😂

I had a deep, rich brown corduroy suit in 1970. Bell bottom hip hugging pants with a fitted jacket. Wore it with a white lacy crop top.It was cool then and would be again.
