If the question is still valid then Yes, we want more production workflows. It's great to see which steps in a production that are revisited the most and also, I very much like the fact that you present the "dirtyness" of the setup, because production setups usually are pretty rough because of the amount of tweaking that's involved. I do hope you'll continue presenting these kinds of tutorials, very useful!
I love how you aren't just tipping in the parameters but actually explain what impact they will have. I have quiet a better understanding in Houdini thanks to you.
For people who are stuck at 16:38 and seeing an invisible bounding box like me, you have to set the Density Field to "density" in the parameter settings of volumevisualization. (I'm using Houdini 18.5)
Me: My computer can handle a pop sim Entafma: Whoops we need 10 times the number of particles we were already using. And for our next step let's copy paste the tree.
Yes, I absolutely want to see more production workflows... putting the different pieces together is extremely helpful... amazing tutorial as always Moritz!
Awesome tutorial, thank you! I've been wanting to make one these for a long time, and thanks to you I now have! Thanks for spending the time doing all the tweaking to the parameters to acheive this look. I have a question about redshift's motion blur - does it normally work on these kinds of particles? Or do I need to cache them for it to work? Thanks in advance!
I know this video is two years old but I hope I can get an answer for this in 18.5. I got a result that seems to look like substeps were not calculated and there are gaps in between groups of particles that are in a regular pattern. Is there a substep calculation setting that I missed?
is there a way to create this using mantra or importing it to blender for the final render? I'm very new to houdini and having trouble with rendering plz help
mete kutlu Thanks for the great tutorial. As a beginner in GPU rendering, I wonder if the RS Volume shader is similar to volume shaders in Arnold, Vray or ProRender?
Heyhey, sure, Mantra, Octane and (most likely) Karma or 3Delight should all have the feature set required to render this. :) Cheers, Mo Also: happy new year!
Happy new years! An Attribute Randomize to set pscale to min/max (0.000075 - 0.000008) did the trick for me. Rendering in 720p took 15h for 95 frames though 🤣. Thank you for sharing knowledge!
Fantastic Video! 1 small Question on the Volume Rasterize Attribute node at 16:21 : should the particle scale always be double the voxel size when you use this node?
now what would be actually different is you walk us through the render setup instead of leaving at the end wiping your hands of something but leaving people in awe and mystery is guess its what keeps people coming back thinking they might actually be able to render a final result. will keep plugging away mos def like poetry.
I'm a beginner. I followed this great tutorial and found that I use AMD card which doesn't support Redshift...Oh... I wonder if there is an alternative or I have to buy a new card.
Hey recently dwelving into houdini, i love it but much more complex than anything ive ever used but nothing i cant handle, anyways at around 17:15 you connect the smoke object into the pyro solver and a bounding box reappears, this doesnt happen for me and im not sure why? I continued with the tut and at the end when the pyro solver is finished i get no smoke any ideas?
Hello. I want to create a sim off telcum powder spray and i followed whole walkthrough but after adding pyro to the VolumeRasteriseAttributes as dopnet ... I see a big blow of white smoke in the beginning only. can you help me with it ?
How do you change the colors to that of a pyro shader say fireball? I'm very new to Houdini and applying it from the material gallery doesn't work. I figured I need to change some other nodes but cannot find it. Thanks! I'm also using mantra. Don't have redshift on mine.
Heyhey, it's a bit of professional experience, a bit of reading up and a bit of education coming together. Sadly there's not a single thing I could point you to. Sorry :( Cheers, Mo
Hello sir, I have some doubts when we create a volume rasterize attribute and connected with the visualization that time I can't see the smoke just like you? here some error in viewport message "volume resolution was reduced to meet the texture limit ..." What I do now?
Heyhey, make sure to check that you've got the right field you'd like to visualize selected in the volume visualization SOP. E.g. "density". The "volume resolution was reduced..." message can be ignored, it's just a warning letting you know that your viewport volume resolution limit (can be adjusted in the viewport's texture settings) is smaller than the actual volume resolution. Cheers, Mo
Dam this took me 9 hours to render 17 frames and it looks like total trash, i wish you went into more rendering details. What am i doing wrong? I have a 4090 lol!
i get the following error at volumesource1: Error Smokeobject1 - /obj/sphere_object1/dopnet1/volumesource1/merge_field: The specified field could not be found. Can someone tell me what's happening ?
Also dang, getting let in the dust at the end of this tutorial is such a bummer. Note to tutorial creators: Please, don't catfish us into believing you will actually show us how to make the example you provide in the introduction to the lesson. That being said, thanks anyway.

you rendered it with Mantra or redshift ? If mantra; can you explain?
@@Hasnaindalal I couldn't render it. Redshift wasn't affordable for me back then so I recreated everything in Blender.
How did you do it ? Right now i want to create a powder effect. Telcum powder comming out of bottle. Any idea how can i get that effect ?
And here we are 3 years later and the clients keep asking for this same effect using this tutorial as a reference.

Fantastic: so much detail! Thank you, Moritz!
that's amazing more like that production more worth than single techniques
seriously you guys are amazing, never stop making videos :)

but how to render it? if i goes to frame 2 houdini crashes...
(anyway good tutorial)
an actual practical video from entagma im stoked

Hello very thanks to share this tutorial , but at begining sphere pointwrangle normal does not work anymore in last version

Let me ask you a question You took the knowledge Where did all this information come from? Or you study it yourself.
I just want to know.

This looks a lot like Lightwave
i am not able to view the visualizer. whats the reason?
i have the same issue on the pointwrangle. Im only showing 6 points aswell in the information tab. not sure what i did wrong
Extraordinary course, however i can just follow first 60% tut and get in chaos after as always... , i am newbie anyway.
i have redshift installed but i can't find the redshift obj tab, anyone knows how to fix it?
How to change normals direction?

Apparently there was nothing wrong and i just needed to copy and paste the exact same node.
any way to export it as an alembic and render it in c4d ?
Any Arnold Renderer tips? NewB seeking haaalp...
