An important difference in the engines is the Benelli has a long stroke engine while the Mash has a shorter stroke than bore. That gives the Benelli a more retro single cylinder engine sound and characteristic. 20hp is really boring I mean more than 50 years ago Velocette built a 500cc single cylinder with 41hp so come on Benelli give us some more.
I have had a MASH 400 for over a year. Absolutely love the bike. Trouble is changing the spark plug. What a pain! Been to three local motorcycle garages and none of them could do it. I love the bike but because of simple maintenance it will have to go and replaced by either an RE Interceptor or Triumph Street Twin.
Man, I'm jealous of you Limeys. Even though I'm a big guy (6'5", 285 lbs), I love those smaller to mid displacement bikes. We have a new Benelli dealer here in my home town of Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA, but they mainly sell the Grom competitor and the 500cc Adv. Tourer. In my opinion, 500-650cc bikes are ideal for people that ride like I do. I once rode my Honda XR 650r to Chile, S.A. and never lacked for power except when I crossed the Andes Mountains without a proper main jet. Thanks guys, loved your video! P.S. My first bike was a '69 200cc Benelli Sprite, so I have a soft spot for the mark.
I’m waiting for Benelli to bring out the 530cc version of the Imperiale. There’s the 10 horses you felt were missing. They were supposed to bring it out this summer but covid threw a spanner in their plans. Maybe early 2021.
i like the old army style..... thats a bitta mee now... ive discovered the quiet back lanes are 10x more fun to explore..than whamming down a dual carriageway at 90mph on a race rep...yes im old... but ive done it all..... i enjoy a bike with character now
It's amazing to me how I can ride 50 miles away from home and buy a 34.000 E bike (Goldwing), but there are no dealers in my country (eastern Europe) for cheap classic bikes! No Royal Enfields, no Mashs, no Lexmotos, no Sinnis, etc. I think there is one dealer that takes custom orders for the Imperiale, but no after market care for it. We need more classic looking, smaller displacement bikes...
For me the Benelli is trying to be a Enfield yet the Mash is just a retro looking bike with a modern twist. So for me it boils down to what you want it for. The age old adage of “something for the weekend sir ?” My choice you ask ? I’ll take the Benelli strip it down and create a retro looking military style bike.
Personally I prefer the benelli but it does seem cumbersome. Stupid comment but I'd go for a RE classic 500 if I wanted that style of bike. Keep up the good work!
Abolutely, billiant video. I was debating a fair bit on which of the 2 should be the best fit for me, in the end, love the benelli (hell i'm italian too so a bit of bias there), but the Mash has that lil more. Aiming for the green 400 ! I know it's a bit of an heresy talk, but due need, maybe a talk on how available or which add on are available (like side purses, parcel rack? not sure if that's how u say it in english, sorry ) would be a nice addition to complete the presentation of the bike
Sadly...although brilliant for me; there were only 5 of those Mash in the UK...I will keep mine forever. They are bringing a desert version one out though.
I've had mine and completed 1500 miles its terrific value and fun on unclassified roads but far to underpowered on dual carriage ways 20hp and 200+kilo dont make for a A or M road cruiser, the throttle is nearly using 360° of twist to achieve 70mph and needs a quick action throttle.
The benneli in silver I have seen in the flesh and it looks awesome value and right up my street. That exhaust though is massive 😆it would be nice to see the Benneli lion on the front wheel mid Baird cowling like a lot of the other benneli
I think I'll buy a twinn cylinder naked 300cc to 500cc Japanese bike and put knobbie tires on it. It will probably be faster, cheaper and more reliable than either one of those. I already see a Honda 300 in very good condition for $3,200 dollars.
Cool vidéo! It would be nice to have a more detailed review about each one of those bikes. I like the 400cc Mash, not so much that army model but the others are ok. The benelli looks awesome but they did a big mistake with the engine. 20hp for 200kg is ridiculous. With 30hp it would be my choice. Keep it up! Didi you drive it home or not?😂
Yes I did, below are the other Mash reviews we have done, including the Army bike...Benelli review will come soon as stated in the video. Mash Force 400 ruclips.net/video/hDOlOB_OpH4/видео.html Mash Dirt track 650 ruclips.net/video/5B3uQtmr5dE/видео.html Mash 400 Roadster and Scrambler ruclips.net/video/t6eDUFlXu_g/видео.html&t Mash DirtTrack 250 ruclips.net/video/KYBYsk4zQyw/видео.html Mash Falcone 125 ruclips.net/video/zExR_4Q4nfE/видео.html
I see Mash now produce the desert sand coloured one now, and the rumour mill say's Benelli are going to shove a bigger lump in the frame of the Leoncino.
A year ago ! I’ve been looking for a more up to date review however apart from the uncomfortable banter towards the end the review was very interesting comparing the two. I take delivery of a Imperiale on Wednesday 17th so one of the better reviews on the bike. 😉
Motors for the Masses Yes, it brings back memories of listening to illiterate idiots. What the hell does "without further adieu mean?? The phrase is "without further ado" (ie without further faffing about), as in "much ado about nothing" by W. Shakespeare. And yes, I know, I'm a pedant 🙂
For the same money for a new mash 400 you can get Royal Enfield classic 500...id opt for that sorry lol contemplating buying one, would be nice to see a review on one if you can get hold of one.
I can't honestly see the point in these plodders. They are a one trick pony. I bought a tidy Gpz 500s for £1300. Faster, quicker, 60mpg and comfortable for minor roads and major too. Sorry guys.
I'd walk past that faux army monstrosity with a shudder, hoping the memory wouldn't stay in my brain for any length of time. Why, why, why would anyone want to pretend to be something they aren't by riding one!!
Those Benelli's just look lovely.
Good video. Nice to see you two together again. You were both on good form.

Yay! Malc’s back 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The benelli looks amazing imo. Just started with a 125 so could be a nice step up next year.
To me, nothing beats the royal enfield classic 500. Keep up the good work ! Best regards

Thx guys, your review made me buy the Mash Force 400. The beige one, limited to 103 models, I think I got the
last one in Europe 😃👍

Yang and ying. Love the duo interaction, works well
Its a shame you didn't have the benelli in while I was up at yours the other week

I still have my Mash Force 400 now with 15.000 kms and still rolling.
Next travel will be Portugal to Italy and back, let's see if she can handle it 😌
Fantastic
I have the Benelli Imperiale its good build quality my only grip the power is only really suitable for back roads and the speedo over reads massively.
If you guys wanted to do a comparison between a modern classic style bike, and an actual classic, let me know as I have one you could use for a video!
The benneli in silver I have seen in the flesh and it looks awesome value and right up my street. That exhaust though is massive 😆it would be nice to see the Benneli lion on the front wheel mid Baird cowling like a lot of the other benneli
Any chance of getting 1 of these for testing ?? regal raptor pilder 125
(love the Mash ...)
Regal Raptor for testing? Hmmm, only if a used one comes in.
I reckon this faux nostalgia will run a bit thin battling uphill into a headwind on a dual carriageway.
You know what's funny? In Poland normal Mash 400 is Romet 400 Classic. And You could have one for like 2000... or less on promotions...
Hey guys ,
Any chance you can do a review of the Mash 400 adventure ???
Thanks mat
Hi, Not available in the UK I'm afraid.
@@motorsforthemasses
I believe it is , as there a few available for sale on mcn and ebay .

I have Benelli and its great!
I'd go for the Benelli because of its linage and lower residual value.
i have the mash 125cc black seven. looking at the new mash 250 cc :) mash are brilliant bikes
Mash looks the nuts, the benelli is a good looking machine nice price too
When are you doing the FB Mondial flat track
When it arrives all being well. No concrete date yet.
@@motorsforthemasses I had their main page comment to me that they'll be in this month
@@motorsforthemasses thank you tho
I did the same, I bought a Harley and transformed it into a Chinese army bike🤠
Have Mash got a UK importer at the mo? I haven’t heard a thing since 3X motorcycles went bankrupt.

Imperiale is a heavy duty work bike.
Cool vidéo! It would be nice to have a more detailed review about each one of those bikes.

@@247ADIE in some countries it's already available
247ADIE , actually it will be a 530cc, but you’re right, they will probably call it a 600.

Yes, I did.

Oh the irony of a Chinese bike dressed up as an American military machine ! . Guaranteed piss taking at any bike cafe !

It's the monster mash.....
so that WW II reject Mash has 2 disks and the Five Hundred/Scrambler don't... I hate those guys, with a passion
i like the mash

It's just personal choice and taste. I'm not keen but it'd be a bit boring if we all liked the same bikes
Mash400 vs Yamaha Sr400
Mash defo looks better
But lost interest laughthing at laurel and Hardy you guys best comedy double act Ive seen for a while CRACK
idiotic I am afraid
Never mind hey....
