Yesss welcome to the Swallow the Sun rabbit hole. To answer the question you almost asked, they have one vocalist, Mikko Kotamäki, who does both the soft crooning singing and the Nazgul growls. He's hardly the only one in the genre, but I particularly enjoy the contrast he creates. Their new album "Shining" has been out for a few weeks and it's aptly named, because it's a gem of a record - coming from a band that has no bad albums (in my opinion), this is an achievement. I think whatever album or song you listen to next will be "the right one", because they don't disappoint. I was going to suggest "Firelights", as it's my favourite currently, but they have adopted the Nazgul aesthetic, too, for the video, so you won't exactly see what they look like. "Cathedral walls" is another classic. And also "Stone wings", "Heartstrings shattering", "Lights on the lake", "Woven into sorrow"... The other day I was binging their cover of Candlenass' "Solitude"; it doesn't get any doomier than that!
Awesome! I will definitely check out your suggestions. The only issue is with this song, I tried to drop it earlier, but the copyright completely blocked it. I always try to argue the copyright, but typically lose the argument. I think it’s viewable only because it’s in deliberation. I can say they don’t make it easy. Maybe the older songs will be easier to post. No matter what I plan on listening to more from them 🤘
Well, Century Media strikes again. Sometimes it is what it is. I hope you still enjoy the music, even if you don't make a video about it. I recently introduced them to a friend that sometimes goes to concerts with me. It was a bit funny, I love the intensity and sadness in their music, while she said it would be great to put on to relax or before sleeping. In a way I understand that, because, yes, it's slow and not brutal in that sense, but I couldn't ever listen to StS to relax - or any of my favourite artists, really - I'm a very emotional listener and I pay too much attention to the music in order to have it as a background, especially for sleeping 😂. Goes to show how differently we experience the same things sometimes. I'm rambling here, sorry.
lol…. I swear we have the exact same listening habits. One of my favorite American bands is Blue October (more for the older stuff). It’s very dark and emotional. The lead singer (Justin) has had to deal with drug addiction and mental health issues. His songs are like reading his diary. If you haven’t heard them I would check out the song Black Orchid. The song Hate Me is their biggest song. It’s a letter to his family during his drug days. Anyway I go out of my way to find the most depressing music 🤘
Haha you will definitely be a StS fan in no time then. Juha Raivio, their guitarist and main songwriter, has written songs about his father's passing and, famously, losing his wife Aleah to cancer when she was only 39. You will hear her as a guest vocalist on some of their pre 2016 material, and she was also the lead singer in Trees of Eternity, a band that she and Juha started. Their only album "Hour of the Nightingale" is pure beauty. I think I've mentioned them before. She had a ghostly, floaty, beautiful style of singing, and afaik was good friends with former Draconian vocalist Heike. I will check out Blue October soon, because the good thing about music like this is the authenticity. I'm not the kind of person that sits down with a popcorn bowl to listen to other people's misery, I rather appreciate the honest emotion when it's there. In a world full of superficial and artificial, well, everything, it's something to be treasured.
Awesome, I can’t wait to check them out. Here is an awesome version of Black Orchid. Justin wrote the song when he was 16 about his not wanting to go on any longer ruclips.net/video/9hLvkZ02KcA/видео.htmlsi=74b5w8fVtPMSvReR
