Step into command during the Seven Years' War with this innovative roguelike historical strategy game. Randomly generated campaigns and real-time battles demand challenging tactical decisions. Customize
units and upgrade your force in a game that blends historical depth with unique gameplay.
    Overview:
Dive into the Seven Years' War with "Master of Command: Prussian Glory," an innovative roguelike historical strategy game by The Armchair Historian. Choose from factions such as Prussia, Russia, or Austria, and embark on a unique campaign in each playthrough. Experience the tension of leading a single army, with random map generation and a focus on strategic planning and prepare for challenging gameplay through 18th-century warfare.
    Campaign:
"Master of Command" features a layered campaign system, beginning with a dynamically generated regional map around Prussia. Here, players select a region to campaign in, each offering unique enemies, equipment, and terrain, ensuring varied strategic encounters with every playthrough. Upon choosing a region to campaign in, you're thrust into a second, randomly generated map of that area. Here, the challenge intensifies - recruit troops, engage in skirmishes, and bolster your forces to dominate the territory. As regions are conquered, the difficulty escalates, culminating in a final, desperate defense against a coalition's assault on your home region. This dual-layered approach combines strategic oversight with tactical depth, ensuring every campaign is a unique test of your military acumen.
    Battles:
Battle mechanics demand real-time tactical prowess. Manage your troops' morale, ammunition, and combat effectiveness to outmaneuver your foes. The game's stylized yet realistic battle system emphasizes strategic planning, with commanding officers playing pivotal roles in inspiring your troops to victory.
    Customization:
"Master of Command" offers extensive customization to foster a deep connection with your army. Equip regiments with diverse weaponry, personalize flags, and modify uniforms for a truly unique military force. Upgrade and reform units to preserve their legacy and enhance their capabilities. With each victory, your troops gain veterancy and officers gain unique abilities. This customization extends to strategic choices, affecting your army's performance and survivability on the battlefield.

It seems like they're trying to make something like Total War, but without having to command the entire civilian population, city/town buildup, etc. and they're using the randomization factor to kind of back-end that kind of stuff so that it still kind of "happens" and you have some semblance of control there, but not the micromanagement detail of the Total War campaign map. Seems like it could be interesting, will keep an eye on it.

You mentioned the game "Age of Rifles." That was my all-time favorite war game for many years until hardware advances wouldn't let me play it any more...until now. Two weeks ago I DL'd a copy off Steam for about $5. Graphics are a bit hard on the eye, but the nostalgia is strong with this one. 😍

So, the period from 1697 to 1763 was the Polish-Saxon union - a personal union in which the ruler united both countries. During this period, there was a complete change in the policy of the Polish state, which is why the rule of the Saxons is called a period of relaxation, changes in political, social and economic relations in Poland. What is it with indie devs shoving permadeath into everything? It's not a rogue like, doesn't matter how many times they call it that. The only reason rogue likes have permadeath is because their challenge comes primarily from randomness, so they wanted to prevent cheesing it with saveloading. Outside of this reason, there's no justification for non optional permadeath. It wasn't even justified in FTL, let alone a goddamn wargame.

That particular game was bug laden and they've abandoned it not too long after it's release. I'd urge anyone to approach this one with caution.

Fire & Maneuver definitely didn't come out the way I wanted it to. We released it as a free-to-play, but only 1% of players ended up spending money in the game. This meant we had no funding at all to continue development. It was a huge passion project of mine, but we never got to finish it... This time we're going with a more traditional release as a paid game, and we're reducing the scope to make sure we can release something polished. That said, I totally understand being put off by the release of F&M, and there's nothing wrong with waiting until the reviews are out and making a decision then. We won't be taking pre-orders on Steam.

    1. Rogue-like is a big red flag (bad) to me. I don't like those games.
    2. Anti-snowball techniques can make the game very bad. Ultimate General Civil war had a rubber-band AI so that if I did well and built my army up, the AI would magically get even more troops to fight me. I hated that. It was a de-motivator to do well.

    • @TheArmchairHistorian
      @TheArmchairHistorian 5 месяцев назад +6

Hey Griffin here! (developer), I actually completely agree with you on point #2. The system we'll be going with does not scale the enemy based on how well you're doing. The enemy forces are going to slightly increase in strength naturally every time you play, regardless of if you're doing really well. So you won't be punished for playing efficiently and minimizing casualties. I'm not a fan at all when games try and punish you for doing well and start spawning in more enemies as a response. Our game will have a simple difficulty setting, and the difficulty setting lets you know what you can expect each time you play, no anti-snowballing measures. It'll be entirely possible to become "overpowered" and feel like a great general if you play your cards right, and if it ever feels too easy, you can just bump up the difficulty.

I do not trust your reviews you have shown a bias to giving Developers a positive review if you like them and hiding a games short comings. Like you did for Grand Tactician : Civil War. That game was severely broken and "Unplayable" at release. I will watch this review but I know you cannot be trusted, and I certainly do not respect your lack of Integrity. Since you need reminding you have a responsibility to tell the truth , without "Omission" of important facts that affect the game. That obligation is to your viewers. I won' t make a second mistake based on your honesty.

Rolland i don’t do reviews generally. I also was pretty open about GTTs shortcomings and mentioned them often in videos. That said I still enjoyed the game warts and all and played 100+ hours of it. It’s not a developer bias, it’s a personal preference. Im sorry if my opinion and yours did not agree. Again I very rarely do reviews and there wasn’t one for GTT. The last game I did any kind of review in was Vicky3 and that wasn’t even a formal review. I haven’t done a game review in 5 years.
