Hi Matt, the Lahaina fire is a HI State Disaster. I would like all island residents to know they can give their testimonies and send them to Director James Comer Judiciary Oversight Committee in Washington DC for the investigation. It's important we get the very best justice for HI. Maui and persons involved in the fire would be harmed parties evidence. All residents in the State have an opportunity here to not only plea to the Federal government about this disaster, but can tell their land grab stories. It's no secret the Hawaiian people have been losing parcels from illegal land locking. The mapping department allows a land buyer to map over existing land without contacting the harmed owner to buy the land or provide an access easement. Instead they file the map, allow them to build, title insurance closes the deal and the harmed party is made to think it is their problem, like they did something wrong. With no money to fix it they give up their land for cheap if they get anything. Accountability for what happened in Lahore may swing the door open to further help the many that lost land because they didn't have the money to fix or fight. It's illegal to map over another's land without buying their property or providing an access easement at the new parties expense. Other responsible parties are the mapping department, surveyor, and Title Insurance. The wronged party can get their land back thru a Quiet Title Action at the expense of the involved parties that stole the land or devalued it by cutting off access. Mark Zuckerberg's deal was in the newspaper for doing this. Many individual stories are our there. My Mother in law dealt with it from land left to her and siblings from the parents estate. They didn't know what happened was illegal. They pretty much gave the property away because they couldn't get utilities without access. The committee in Washington DC investigating is like having access to the Supreme Court. There's no guarantee they'll opt to investigate land lock fraud, but they won't know if they don't ask. Wondering if anybody watched t water commission meeting on Oahu it was long 11 hours plus, i haven't watched it all but Maui residents were given t chance to speak first their testimonies were so compelling wanting t water to b returned to run from mauka to makai as well as reinstating manuel back to the commission it was very informative to really hear what people on Maui really want done

Do Hawaii residents not have home owners insurance and renters insurance ? And if so why haven't the insurance paid off to the banks that hold the mortgage and pay the people that have renters insurance ? I don't understand about the insurance company
Insurance doesn't ensure coverage, unfortunately. Every home has a different situation attached to it but a great deal of people were in houses that had been in the family for generations and there were no mortgages or required insurance attached. A number of families didn't have the income to keep themselves comfortable let alone pay for insurance.
