I love this; I’m not that great at stitch in the ditch either. I’m not a big fan of the long-arm quilting because it’s so tight. This is perfect because it preserves that softness. I know long-armed quilts will soften up over time, but I guess I’m really old school 😊. Thank you for sharing that cool offset option!!!
Thanks to your video, I now feel ready to dip my toe in the quilting sea and make my first quilt! This method looks beginner-friendly as well as wonderful to behold.
I am addicted to your videos and you have taught me so much and I have been quilting for over 10 years. I love your voice. Thanks for teaching an old dog new tricks!
Good morning, Lea Louise! This is a wonderful idea! Adds new interest/dimension to a quilt. I did this method this week on side borders of a log cabin panel quilt top for the charity quilts of my quilt guild. I did two rows on both sides using 3.5 by 6.5 inch rectangles. I was given the panel in a kit from the guild. Now the width measures 36 inches. For the top and bottom borders, they are slightly offset. I wanted to add in fabrics that highlight living in the wilds of Alaska. Moose, fish ponds, forget me not flowers. The top two rows are each 2.5 inches wide. Aurora Borealis colors. Thank you for these great ideas. Take care, Marion in Oregon.
I learned this technique from my MIL long time ago. But I do it even easier. Cut one square exactly in 1/2 and add 1/2 half to odd rows in the left side, and 1/2 square to the even rows on the right side. After sewing all rows will be equal ( you know… more or less 😉🤪)
Great tip, Gigi! Then we can take it one step further by adding 1/2 block on the end of every row as we chain stitch. The simply flip every other row so they alternate sides. The beauty of quilting is there's always a way to make it work! Sure appreciate you following along. Happy Quilting, Lea Louise
@@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise This is great as long as the fabrics are not directional. But yes… efficiency is higher when we plan ahead. Experience also adds to our wisdom 😉
As usual, fantastic quilt Lea Louise. My favorite thing about your tutorials is, not do we get to see your gorgeous quilts, we also learn a new technique to apply to our quilting pleasure. Thank you so much.
Thanks so much. What a great idea! Have you ever used 10 inch squares for a full size quilt? just thinking… You are a great teacher and a very creative talent and I enjoyed your video a lot!
So glad you enjoyed this tutorial, Rene! The best part is that every quilt will look different depending on your fabrics. Just keep using the same method in different size squares. This can easily become you go-to for a quick quilt! Thanks so much for watching. Happy Quilting Lea Louise
Lea, I Love your videos! And, I have many charm packs piling up on me; in some instances , I have 4 charm packs of one fabric line, or 2 from one line & 2 from another that coordinate beautifully. The charm pack fabrics are so beautiful, I hate to cut them up! This IS the quilt pattern I'll be using; problem solved! The quilts will be gorgeous; you can't go wrong when you start with fabulous fabric 😊 Thank You so very much for your vids. Oh, after watching your "Potato Chip" video, I dropped everything and made a "Potato Chip Quilt"; Oh My Gosh, I had so much fun making those blocks! I used scraps, but I included a lot of reds to tie all the scrappiness together; it turned out beautifully! I'll be making more of those. Ladies (and Gentlemen), if you haven't tried the "Potato Chip" block, go to Lea's video/tutorial; try just one block - you'll be hooked! It looks fantastic scrappy, or in a planned color scheme. Lea, your the best, and keep your videos coming. From. Sacramento, CA. ❤
The fabric in your video is so pretty! This is such a good quilt pattern especially for beginners but so great for old quilters like me too! I'm getting to the point in my quilting life where I just want uncomplicated projects that turn out well. Thanks so much for sharing :)
I agree with you - stitching in the ditch is not my favorite either. I’m much better at stitching a quarter inch away from the ditch. Great video.

Thank you for this video! I’m a new quilter and this was a game changer!!
The quilt turned out so great!
Love my offset blocks, Carolyn! Be sure to give it a try. Thanks for watching. Happy Quilting,
Lea Louise
I love this idea! This would make a great I Spy quilt for a toddler. It’s so much easier than trying to match your seams. Thanks.
Another great video with a great quilt!! Thank you.
Love this idea. Hate nesting seams.
I love the offset, I am going to give it a try. Thank you!
This is great for a baby quilt or when you just want to sew without having to think too hard. ❤
Thanks to your video, I now feel ready to dip my toe in the quilting sea and make my first quilt! This method looks beginner-friendly as well as wonderful to behold.
I love using solids also , it makes the prints pop ! Thank you for this video !
Oh my goodness are you clever. The matching seams stress me out. Thank you
Love this idea. Certainly don't want to buy another container to put my stash of 5 inch blocks.
so beautiful, thanks for sharing this technique. I can't wait to start another baby quilt with this.
I am addicted to your videos and you have taught me so much and I have been quilting for over 10 years. I love your voice. Thanks for teaching an old dog new tricks!
Love this idea. Some guilds have thousands of blocks that could be used for charity quilts.
That is such a great idea
I have several charm packs and that would be quick and easy and perhaps I won't need JACK Ripper too much.
I have just done a baby cot quilt with a charm pack and quilted it either side of seams and liked the loof

Thank you so much for taking away my intimidation of stitching in the ditch. This tutorial really is a game changer. 😊
As always, love all those colourful fabrics and what a great looking quilt - thanks 🥰
Very nice quilts. I love quilts that are so colored. Easy to change it with a half block on one site of the rows.
You are brilliant - such great ideas & tips. Thanks so much for sharing
Thank you for the free off-set quilt pattern.
Another fantabulous idea ❤
I love this I’m going to make one for my grandson thanks so much x
You could use your extra four blocks for the opposite side of the quilt. If using charm packs
Thank you for the wonderful video!
Hello, so nice yo see you. I must have sn allergy to sewing a straighy line much less in the ditch! So, i use the serpentine stitch!😅😅😅
Beautiful!
What are the exact names of the charm pacs I would like to purchase them
Love!!
❤
Thank-you, Very pretty combo. Is the 35×45" size good for wheelchair users?
If you put in 3 or 3 1/2" inch pieces there'd be no trimming?
I’m confused about the math. Wouldn’t just cutting a charm in half give you 2, 2 1/2” pieces and the rows would come out even but off set?
Is this the same as the brick pattern?
What about tutorials using yardage, not all of us out here likes precuts or scraps.
Yes, it is easier. The downside for me is that I do not like the look of it. I like your enthusiasm though.
Love it! Always wanted to try this but haven't. Now i have no excuse not to try. Thank you
