I absolutely LOVE The Residents from their debut single (Santa Dog) up through The Mole Trilogy! I've liked their stuff since, but not as much as those first 10 years. And Duck Stab is a great album. The 2CD expanded editions of their albums are a treasure trove of audio delights (and pure weirdness). My fave albums are Tunes of Two Cities, The Commercial Album, Not Available, Fingerprints, and Vileness Fats! Well, those are the first that come to mind. I can find some many great little hooks and melodies in their music where most people just hear weirdness! I've actually pulled my Residents CD collection and was going to do a video about their first 10 years.... I'll move that up the line and do that once I finish moving!
You should get their DVDs, Like The Commercial DVD or Icky Flix!
I only know a few Residents albums, but I’ll definitely request a few of their songs for Patreon! One of the most memorable concerts I ever attended
I often found their music both funny & scary. Very strange stuff. I remember they had their
own record label called Ralph Records. They had other artists on that label too like Yello.
I already know which Residents song I’ll request for you next week 😀
Get Not Available, Metal Meat And Bone, Gingerbread Man and Bunny Boy.

Huge Residents fan here (since 94 when I discovered them). In fact, I found your video through a Residents fan group on Facebook. Looking forward to what you think/thought about Meet & 3rd Reich. If you like those pREServed editions, most of the output from their first 20 years has received the same treatment, and I highly recommend them.
My top ten
10. Commercial Album
9. God In 3 Persons
8. CUBE E (all three parts)
7. Mark Of The Mole
6. Third Reich N Roll
5. Duck Stab/Buster And Glenn
4. Meet The Residents
3. Eskimo
2. Fingerprince
1. Not Available
Gee great, another band I need to check out! He he! You give me so many new and old artist I need to catch up on. I just need to make the time to do so. Music is such an important part of my life. I love silly and weird music, so it's something I'm sure I'm going to love too!
BUGALOO BUGALOO BUGALOO BUGALOO...
I saw them live twice : never forget it !
I love the Residents. Weird band but excellent! Favourite albums : Meet the residents, The third reich n roll, Not available, Eskimo, The mole trilogy, George and James- American composers series ( Tribute to George Gershwin and James Brown), Stars and Hank forever( John Philip Sousa and Hank Williams), The King and eye ( Elvis Presley).
I love Duck Stab, Commercial Album, Fingerprince, Not Available, Eskimo. Don't know the more recent releases.
Commercial Album is my favorite. I still have my 1980 vinyl lp. I also have the cd.
Eskimo on white vinyl. Includes oblique references to Coca-Cola.
Play Santa Dog EP NOW !!!!!! Their first official release, they sent it out for free to people like Zappa and Nixon (Got refused !!!!!)
Awesome stuff, atmospheric and thrilling, music for bored people
I counted 329 actually’s. But it may have been 923 because I’m dyslexic. ;-)
I suggest to try FingerPrince and also Not Available (you'll definitely enjoy them) - both closer to Duck Stab than Meet the Residents and Third Reich. Commercial Album is also a very safe bet and probably the most accessible - all 40 songs are miniature gems...frustratingly, they only last 1 minute each.
Their weidest album is probably Eskimo...but then it's not as harsh as Meet the Residents and Third Reich more unified with an ambient/atmospheric mood which can be listened in the background.
If you prefer the beautiful (= less ugly) parts of The Residents, I'd suggest:
Not Available
Demons dance alone
and, as a postgraduate course: Postcards from Patmos (which is all instrumental)
Have you heard Eskimo, a cold wind blows through it, makes you go for your coat !! Love the reviews we have the same musical tastes.
I haven't heard the album yet, thanks!
Coca-Cola.
If you think the Residents are surreal then check out their music videos, especially for Constantinople
I love their videos. Very unnerving! Like DEVO, their visuals are just as strong as their music.
I been fan for a scary 40 years.
(There are deluxe editions of all from 1974 to 1994, minus the long awaited "American Composer Serie pRESERVED box") Fav albums : Not Available, Mark of The Mole, Vileness Fats, Animal Lover, The Residents presents Dying Dog aka Metal, Meat & Bones. Id say anything 1971-1985 is essential + Cube E and other assorted newish albums like "The Ghost of Hope" and "Intruders" ect ect - Just thread carefully from 1993 to 2003, their weakest period overall......
Had a listen to ‘With the Residents’ but couldn’t get to the end before having to retire hurt. Sorry, ‘Meet the Residents’ not ‘With the Residents’ - was thinking of The Beatles UK release.
Yes, I prefer Duck Stab and the Third Reich album more, but I've only listened to it twice.
You reminded me of the insistence of my partner (at the time)- that I would LOVE the Residents (and I didn't even like them a little), I will listen again- 40 years later. I love Zappa and Beefheart and SPARKS (allday). I'm skeptical...all that swastika art is revolting (on purpose and to effect)...so...uh. OK.
Strange band. Listen to them sometimes. Might listen to duck stab. Thanks Larry 😀
I like them up the mid 80's. I lost interest after that.
Saying actually is better than people that say literally basically or like every other word Larry. Very irritating.
and "um"...
@@canadianstudmuffin Yes. Um, I forgot that one.
My Residents collection sits in high quality lock boxes. Its huge. 😂
Sorry Larry to me they're garbage, they're just doing random notes and throwing whatever they feel like throwing into it and calling it music,to me it's a musical scam, anything goes doesn't make good music. Bob
You've just not listened to the right stuff. If you're just not into weird, it will never catch you anyway. Believe it or not there is a lot of subtlety and atmospherics and they are impeccable with their recording techniques. Random notes? Not a one. For over 50 albums. All due respect.
@@jpgringo9864well said. And hey even The Beatles were fans of the avant garde 😊 and released their share of experimental music
The 2020 Residents record Metal, Meat and Bone is an amazing project, very straight forward for The Residents but it's still a great record, lots of fans actually say it's their best in years
I actually never heard of The Redidents, and that being said, I'm surprised that they have 60 albums.
I'll give them a listen
I mis spelled Residents. Sorry.
You can edit your comments, just in case you didn't know that, but it's no big deal. I never even noticed until you said that, ha ha.
