This episode shows Val Lahman (Bea) How much of a great actress she is, She really put her heart into this show.
That's why the early years of prisoner was the best.
@@tefllife2024 Definitely
@@tefllife2024 After 1981 it was pretty much a circus.
She always does in every episode
In 1981 Denise Morgan left the show with Vera and that idiot Coral Drouyn took over.
Val Lehman (Bea), still going strong as I write aged 80, was the beating heart of this show. And this episode is a prime example of that.
Superb acting. ❤️
Poor Bea. The pain of unrequited love hurts like hell.
It certainly does
Yep.
Bea and Ken were never romantic. Bea just fantasized about the possibility of hooking up with Ken and the fact it will never happen is what crushed Bea. But it’s karma for bullying the other ladies who couldn’t see their men.
Applauds the end credits scene. And Sheila Florance! Lizzie is bereft that she can't comfort her friend. What brilliant acting from Val and Sheila.
❤@
Brutal episode. I feel so bad for Bea. I don't think Chrissie's relationship is going to end any better. You can already tell it won't work.
The end breaks my heart. The theme song would have been enough, but Bea's collapse in tears kills me every time. Hard to watch without getting choked up.
Mazzano Blue
I love Bea Smith. Val Lehman was truly amazing, and knew how to bring it to the table. I have seen some wonderful actors over the years, that are extremely talented. But, I don't think there is anyone who could play Bea Smith as good as Val.
Nacho Mamma U softie
There are only a very small number of spoiler comments after each episode, thankfully.
Oh pull yourself together Mamma.
Betty Bobbit said Val could look at the script just one time and remember every word she had. She would ask Val if she was taking her script home to read, but she'd tell Betty " No I don't need too." I wish I had a photographic memory like she does. Val got along with Betty and her two sons Christopher and Oliver who were sixteen and seven at the time. She said the families would eat together sometimes, Val's two daughters and son and Betty's boy's.
Ken is a real blockhead not realizing that Bea has romantic feelings for him. He hurt her badly. Good riddance to him, his wife and idiot daughter.
sometimes you just dont realise. but yes bea can do better, even though she is in gaol lol.
It's a horrible feeling when you have really strong feelings for sombody and you have to let go. We all been there at some point I guess.
Yeah I agree. There was someone I truly got stuck on but eventually got over it 9 years ago. It's all too easy to get "involved" when you have strong feelings for someone and you can't get them out your head. Its truly over and im relieved! The person was very good looking and they have a pretty solid married life now with a kid in toe.
Most definitely
We all want someone just to care and do the sweetest things what emotional episode this is why val said Denise Morgan was the best writer
Vera can be insufferable. At times we see a softer side but she is such an unhappy miserable person that she relishes others pain and misfortune. Fiona is a terrific actress and so good in this role.
This is why Fiona left the show. Her character had really started to expand by the 150s, but then they drew her back into a one-dimensional, nasty person. As she said, she couldn't take the aggression she had to express and to take as well. The show's producers obviously had it in for her and John McRae was planning to write off Vera, despite her popularity. Perhaps he couldn't deal with her relationship with Denise Morgan. I read that McRae and Phil East were both abusive to the show and the players (such as the brilliant George Mallaby), which may be why there was such a turnover post-Vera. It was far too gracious of her to walk away from a hit show without saying anything except that she needed a break. Something bad was going on behind the scenes, and that made work miserable for her.
They should have let more of the actors and actresses write episodes, like George Mallaby did.
Better than the freak
@@MoonOverYou i don't get this - Fiona/Vera was in the show for ages after this , as for George Mallaby he continued writing the occasional episodes well after his character had been written out
11:37 Love the closed captions on these episodes, it refers to Ken Pierce as ‘King Piss!’ 😂😂
Kinky! 😆😂
@@jamessky9155shame they're no longer available 😂
I think we can all relate to Bea's love for Ken. There are those that we can't ever attain or have the courage to tell them "I love you".
True.
A Denise Morgan classic. Many of the scenes were beautifully crafted and there were some sublime touches of dialogue. It was a shame that Denise only wrote two more episodes.
Denise wrote this one!? That's fabulous...cannot wait to see her name in the credits. i read an article written just after she passed away and from what it said it sounded like she was an amazing writer. I have a feeling she worked on more episodes tho...at least I'd assume so. I think it is so romantic that that is where she and Fiona met! At least I assume that's where they met. They were together for 32 years and Denise died in 2011 so the math is right.
Wait, they were a couple?
yea fiona is gay
saltana_gaming Really! Vera?
yes kop the person that plays vera is lesbian and she was engaged with denise morgan untill denise died of cancer
One of the few episodes where we don't have the usual end credits, showing an officer locking the gates.
Felt so sad for Bea, especially after seeing the smirk on Vera's face after Bea left Ken in the Library
Amazing how Meg is working to help Chrissie after what she did. Meg has a heart of gold. Amazing and a bit hilarious also how Chrissie only seems to recall--at 17:58--what she did to Meg's husband, as if she'd never thought much about it and her memory was jarred by the association of the word "husband", whereas Meg is no doubt fully aware and unable to forget, yet is still willing to help. Like I said, heart of gold. Her taste in music is total Muzak and her taste in clothes is about as sexy as your grandmother's living room curtains, but--heart of gold.
Love the scene at 18:00 with Meg and Chrissie and Bill Jacksons murder is brought back into it.
“Why don’t you eat some poison cheese Mouse”! 🤪🤪🤪best one liner from Chrissy!
What about her other liners...'piss off margo ya making me gums bleed'..'all men are barrrrrstads.
How messed up for Ken to bring his daughter to see Bea when he knew it was an unsupervised visit. Come on! Bea wanted some alone time with her man!
Ken certainly has a type :p
Vera really is a meddling shrew. So is Debbie. But Ken really is ridiculously oblivious about Bea’s feelings for him.
You can see that Chrissie is incapable of having and appreciating a good relationship. She’s her own worst enemy. But I would like to see her knock the taste out of Vera’s smirking mouth.
Wow you did a great job! Your comment is spot on with everyone you mentioned. I found your description brilliant, couldn't have said it better any other way. Looking forward to see what's in store for all involved.
A broken Bea is heartbreaking.
How sad Vera's world is, lapping up other people's miseries. Hanging around listening to other people's conversations. Living vicariously through others. Even sadder to think there are people walking around in real life exactly the same..
It's good to see a different guard with Bea and Ken's visit. Instead of Vera flapping around, ready to eat their souls
Brilliant acting by Val Lehman, as usual. And such a great episode could only have been written by Denise Morgan.
BEA OH BEA!What a stellar performer in the 80s.
That was quite a grim episode really. I think Bea has every right to be upset but it was a no win situation for her really. After all, she must have known deep down that Ken wouldn't wait all those years till she is released. Doreen has gone from being a selfish cow to a grumpy one, dunno which is worse!
Even her Teddy's sick of her farting in bed. Lol.
There are all kinds of Vera's in real life, in all kinds of professions and occupations. The sad thing its often with vulnerable people. Teachers, Nurses, ect.
Got to be the best ever scene acted by Bea. She was just fantastic. Brilliant stuff!
I love the character of Chrissie, but okay, she murdered a prison staff member less than 2 yeas ago, and is out on parole??
Ken's so boring. Don't know what Bea would see in him.
they apparently don't take murder seriously. When bea first came back after blowing away her husband she said she would never get out, now she has a top sentence of 15yrs(i think?). And that was premeditated, well planned out. Must be sweet to kill as you please and live in a country club prison like Wentworth.
You must not be aware of our shitty justice system. This is just a show, though pedophiles in Australia walk away with a $500 fine and 6 month probation period, then placed next to schools and kindergartens. Pedophiles stick together in these circumstances, hence why nothing gets done till these types of people are knocked down from society and control!
i really dont like the chrissie character. she is selfish and manipulative, yet mysteriously a caring, concerned saint when it comes to her child.
The 1970s and early 1980s was quite a lenient time as far as sentencing was concerned.
@@ajs41 it's worse now. Murderers and rapists get 6 months or maybe just a fine.
Chrissie is one on my favourites, she's one of a few women who stood up to bea.
One of the 1st times i watched the end credits till the end....heartbreaking...
I love Vera! Her characters fantastic!I also have a soft spot for Fletch:)
42:59: That look on Meg's face tells that she knows what the viewer can observe--that Chrissie's marriage and parole won't last 5 minutes on the outside, what with the "Look! Will you stop treating my like I'm some sort of flamin' invalid?" display. If they keep following the Chrissie storyline day by day and episode by episode, then we'll know that she will soon be back--in Wentworth that is. Her character is good for dramatic tension, especially her confrontations with Bea--she's too good a character to let go in other words.
No spoilers please.
Debbie Pierce is the worst...
+James Cannon Hard to watch, isn't she?
+Saxon Greene like how ungrateful can you get?! Bea set her on the right path, yet she has this pathological need to hurt someone who helped her....
***** I get where you're coming from....but Ken and her mum had been separated the majority of her life, she's borderline delusional to think they would work out as a couple after all this time just because they're her parents. They have nothing in common other than her. Bea and Ken (while there would be a lot if obstacles if they ever cemented a romantic relationship just due to one of them being inside) have so much in common intellectually and personality wise. You'd think she'd grow the hell up and see that.
She is an adult that is about to be married and she acts like a child.. wanting mommy and daddy back together again. Its not fair to expect her father to give up his work that is important to him to make her mother happy.
But Debbie isn't 12 years old. She is a young adult at least she is supposed to be. She behaves like an obnoxious child.
wow vera sinking to new lows, enjoying mrs peirce and beas convo
Such great characters. This show had soul, that's why it was such a success. Bea is brilliant as top dog, and then the amazing Lizzie, Judy, Doreen etc. All great characters that make up a top team. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
Really hate Vera at the moment. Her mother must have psychologically damaged her beyond repair.
Oh my god! That one made my heart hurt!
Wow!!! I love the Chrissie and Meg conversation, especially at 18:00, It was the exact thing she said to Meg when she stabbed Bill Jackson with the scissors. Nice flashback moment!!!
I feel sad for Bea. She never even got to kiss him. She looked so beautiful in her make up etc. Never saw her look so good. That's tough. But guess what? I know these things. I won't be surprised if he ends up right back with Bea.
Bea looks so pretty in her day dream scenes
Oh Vera give it a rest for god sake she never shuts up 😅
I think bea and Ken would have made a lovely couple 😊
Till i had to face the nightmare of waking up alone
And if you weren't suicidal before then the closing sequence will ensure you're reaching for the razor blades....
It's a joke Jack.
Glad that's the Bea/Ken storyline ended now (I hope).
I can't bear to see Bea Smith crying. I really feel sad for her.
Same here, Bea deserves to be happy🙂. But knowing with tv drama's it's very rare that you get happy endings.
I always felt when Bea Left this show - that she had a poor exit and they killed her character off later on. Her character deserved a happy ending😔😔.
Ꭿmanda Jonεs interesting yet disturbing to see so many root for hard criminals...
Uncanny how much Kens wife looks like Bea
I noticed that
That's what I thought.
Awww Poor Bea.. That's heart breaking
The last scene there really epitomizes the theme song. (Jeeziz, I think I'm going soft in the head!)
I can't concentrate on what Debbie says because of that walnut whip thing on her head
Debbie’s teeth are awful! She should spend less on her hair (it’s a lost cause) and get her teeth fixed 😬🪥🦷
Quite a good script for this one. Having Ken's wife visit Smith in prison is exceptional. One battle you lose Bea...
Good episode but I can't see Ken sticking it out with his wife - Think it's the right move for Bea ,she lost her way being all loved up - Chrissie starts havin a tear up as soon as she's out of the gate lol
i feel so sorry for bea :( god val lahman is such an AMAZING actress its so hard to cry like that
Poor Bea. Feel so bad for her and Chrissie doesn't give a damn about the guy who's trying so hard to make her happy.
I totally adore Bea Smith - she's on of my favourite characters on this show.
But it would be lovely to Bea happy for once. But we all know with drama shows like this that it will not happen.
😐🤔I always felt when Bea does leave this show - that her exit from the show was very very poor. She deserved a better ending than what she got sadly.😔😔Bea Smith is a legend.
I totally agree. It's tragic how little happiness she was allowed...
I reckon we should of had an episode based on the Barnhurst fire and at the end we see Bea die, saving the other prisoners and wardens When the exit collapses and Bea gets stuck inside the prison while it burns
I wish when Val decided to leave the show that they had let Bea escape a final time for good.
I see Fiona's wife wrote the episode and her brother directed it.
Bea should have just came out and told Ken she loved him. Then maybe he would have divorced his wife and married her.
poor bea. as others have said its a great performance from the top dog bea, her and lizzie are the cogs that make prisoner so watchable.
MAN, is Ken one clueless S.O.B. That rec room scene was torturous😥
Why do they allow Vera to verbally abuse the inmates like that??
I wish Saint Meg would butt out! I get she's the welfare officer but my god, pushing Chrissy into a marriage she doesn't want is just barmy.
Especially since she married Bob after 5 minutes. That doesn't appear to be going well.
Why do people give spoilers in the comments section on episodes not yet seen? Some of us are watching this for the very first time. Ugh.
Sydnee Poitier I know- it really F****ING pisses me off!!!
+Lamp Shade to be fair guys the show ended in 1986 so you've got a bit of a task ahead of you to stop people talking about what happens lol
rayman760 Er, no. Not really. It's only the odd person here and there that posts spoilers- most people are actually respectful of others that are watching for the first time.
+Episode692 agreed, how can you stop people discussing the show when it ended 30years ago lololol most people know anyway. Even I knew how it ended before the show had even anywhere near reached its conclusion
+rayman760 I wasn't even alive 30 years ago...nor have I heard of this show until recently, so your most people comment is presumptuous and asinine.
That bloody Debbie is doing my head in xx
There’s never any other cars parked when someone pulls up to the parking spots in front of the gates.
Sid Humphrey
Poor Bea :(
Chrissie finally has someone trying to take care of her and she's being a snotty little brat about it, look at those arm-folded pouty tantrums she's showing - You aren't mature enough to mother a young human, you lil snot!
Doreen crying about others visits, she shoulda worked for her marriage and had a bit o Kevin in the shed from time to time.
Vera at her vindictive best.
Chin up Bea !!
Sorry but I had to laugh at Vinegar Tits' wickedness around Ken and Bea... just brutal! lol
Ken's wife and Bea look quite similar.
That's right Smith.....Ken's not coming back!
Learn something new every time I watch... just read that Doreen & Debbie are sisters in real life. Dunno how I didn't see it before, they're identical, except Dor's a bit rounder!!
Tracy Mann who played the deaf bird, Georgina Baxter is their sister too.
Bettie Joseph Really? Well I never....
They aren't sisters. Both were born in 1950, Colette on 17 February, Dina unknown.
I cant find anything that states they are related and same with Georgie. Sounds more like Chinese whispers. They have the same last name, they could be related though maybe not sisters. Who knows, though nothing states otherwise
The actresses that played Doreen and Debbie are not related at all. Collette Mann (Doreen) stated this on her twitter page.
I'm in shock that Fletch wasn't doing the rosters, or was he?
My heart was breaking for Bea, seeing her sob her heart out.
The outro went well matching how bea felt like the way she was in it
Outrageous dream sequence. Would love to see Eastenders attempt that!
micks wife looks just like bea brilliant casting im addicted poor bea making me cry now xx
Cannot stand that Debbie. She reminds me of that Tracy.
very one dimensional characters and similar acting
Ouch. :( Damn I almost cried along with Bea.
aaaah..... pre freak prisoner...... vera might be petty, vindictive, mean and spiteful but ferguson makes her look like mother theresa! can't wait but must watch until must watch until must watch until.........
Jimmy Lawley Mother Theresa was not the innocent person people believe.
yes i'm well aware of this. However I don't recall Chris Hitchens or Penn & Teller never accused the money grabbing old ghoul of donning black leather gloves and strangling people or assault extortion and murder? So I think I'll let the comparison stand?
Haven't Bea and Chrissie had more than their normal quota of visits within a week?
Yeah but Vera authorises it as she likes to see Bea suffer
This is beas' more softer side
Yes i agree, particularly fighting with Chrissie and threatening to beat up the others.
31:51 there was a drama series in the uk called the Agatha Christie Hour which was being made during this period. I reckon that the composer of the theme tune must have watched Prisoner as the theme tune to the series is extremely similar to the music being played at this point.
Awwwwww poor bea :-(
Chrissie is so damaged she doesn't even know how to have a reasonably decent relationship. I know she's hard to like sometimes but I do have a soft spot for her.
Bea's in prison and the friendzone!
Omg poor Bea, that had me in tears 😢😢😢😢😢
How on earth has Chrissie only got 5 years left to serve? It was only a year ago she killed Bill Jackson.
John Smith I know, and just before the prison was set on fire she had 18 months to serve, and a few episodes later she was due for parole, I know the storylines move fast on Prisoner but that just doesn't make sense.
I cannot remember....do we actually see her kill Bill? I thought the whole thing was an accident
No, we don't actually see her kill him but one of the other characters did, Bea found out she did it and forced her to confess to the screws.
Anyone else think that Marion Pearce is just a brunette Bea of sorts? I find they look slightly similar to one another.
I'm happy with the ending. Selfish Bea deserved what she got there. Love that Vera smirk.
I don't agree. At this point Vera is wearing thin with her hateful, self-loathing persona. The smirk has become ugly.
@ Creatann Grey, yeah, the smirk is pretty weak, really. It never did work for me. I liked Vera, but the smirk, nup.
Vera is bitter and in some cases jealous that a man wud be interested in bea and she hasn't got anybody not even friends
Poor Bea.......... I know exactly how she feels.
Poor Bea, so much love to give, and every time she tries, it ends in tragedy. And then we have Crissy, who is a murderer of a prison officer… and yet she's out on parole?
Doreen pushing Lil back... Lil should have yanked her back by the scalp of her hair and punched her in her throat. So tiring watching Doreen get brave to tougher women knowing that they won't hit her because Bea coddles her.
Gah! Why does Debbie have to YELL EVERY WORD SHE SAYS?
my daughter started doing that when she became a teenager. and every sentence ended in a high note with an UUGHH! Like "hold on-nnuughh.
Bea is such a strong woman but damn this kind of stuff hurts like hell ! Val is such a great actress xx
I don't think Ken was romantically interested in Bea. Maybe good friends, but that's it.
I absolutely love the sweet daydreaming Bea does, how romantic :)
yeah and Ken was a goof going back to his stale wife ....They should of made a longer romance out of this ...
***** I agree
INSANITY DREAM SEQUENCE!
you're funny yatesy :P lol
Haha , its the kind of dream I sequence that no one has actually ever dreamed except perhaps Susan Boyle...
LOL !!
37:43 ffs Chucky with lipstick on, Bea can be so annoying
And you sound annoying
With all the smoking that went on then I’m amazed they didn’t die of lung cancer
Hahahahahaha... As someone who finds the Bea Smith character a reprehensible human being, I had to laugh at the fact that she managed to talk Ken back into his wife's arms whilst trying to get them to split for good. Poetic justice.
Ah wow.. I had to come back a couple of minutes later. I'm still laughing so much at the whole thing. Best unintentionally comedic scene in the series so far. Can't wait for her to be out of the series personally. Bring me on Sandy Edwards.
@@frankbrodie5168 you don't like bea smith???
@@thalesdemoura.3460 Not really no. I know she's a fan favourite. But I'm an eldie law abiding sort of chap, and consider Bea to be a sociopathic, psychopathic, multiple murderess. The characters I like are often the victims of circumstance ones rather than the Bea Smith's.
@@frankbrodie5168 you would like bea smith from wentworth, that's prisoner's remake, she's a total victim, she killed for reasonable reasons and she's veeeery different from original bea.
