If someone decides to use and learn OpenFOAM, spending time on it is very important, you have to dive into the source code and see how it works, gonna be a little hard and boiling until you could understand the whole structure and do things interesting.

CFD is more focused on engineering rather than research, at least for most of us, it is a simple tool, you need it to tell you what would happen and why it happens. Most of us don't really need open-source code, Ansys rules.

It really depends on who you are and what you want to accomplish. For academic purposes, OF is a good start and without having to commit to any upfront investment, it is one of the better options out there for sure. If you are a designer and want to deal less with the hassle of "numerics" for example, SimScale is a good way to get started.

I've seen some of your videos.
    They are absolutely great!
I'm currently trying to set a very very simplified case of a 3d sloshing tank (laminar, incompressible) with a floating object.
can u give me a clue of how to join the 2 cases?

Thanks a lot Óscar! There are some sloshing cases on SimScale you can have a look at. You can find them under public projects.
