The author of the novel said on X that figuring out PhayaTharn past and connection was just like cracking one of the cases the special investigation unit will be given so it's perfectly normal to feel confused at the beginning. And Phaya wasn't just turned on by the fact Tharn was a virgin, he just uses that to tease him, but, as Billy said in ep 0, Tharn is a mystery to Phaya and he likes to solve mysteries.

In the first part of the episode Tharn got a premonition that Phaya will accidentally die during the fight by getting impaled on a metal rod that was sticking out. So he rushed there to prevent that and he actually got there in time and pushed Chart off Phaya.
