This is a video showing you how to change the Shaper Origin’s plunge speed, and explaining reasons for when this might make sense. The video also shows the speed differences and explains how plunge speed is measured.

Welcome to my woodworking channel. I am passionate about taking the most wonderful woods mother nature created and turning them into beautiful objects of day to day use. This is not a DIY channel about teaching the woodworking craft, showing you new and nifty techniques about how to build wooden objects or anything alike. It’s about celebrating nature’s beauty and providing inspiration for projects of your own.

Loved the „stone age method“ 😂. I did rewind, as I was not sure if you really just said that.
Haha... I couldn't resist...
Very informative as usual my friend!! Great vid! 😊
Thank you, Henry :D
Stone Age method.....😂😂😂 I had never noticed this setting until a week or so ago. I started playing with the setting on a handful of materials, and WOW, does it make a world of difference
Right? So many years, never even saw it, and now that I know it I can't understand how I lived without it... Yeah, stone age metrics, I always imagine people measuring length in elbows and weight in stones during the stone age... not that far away from feet and ounces :D
I never even considered this setting, let alone change it. Thanks for your clear explanation. Next time I use the Shaper Origin I will explore this setting. Is there a downside to slowing the plunge speed?
Same here - years of Shaper Origin use, and I never paid attention. Apparently I am not alone, multiple viewers said the same. The only downside is that you have to wait longer, hence it will take more time to cut your projects. Other than that, no downsides...
My dumbass always thought it was an rpm setting hence never even clicking on it 🤦🏻♂️ amazing, always found it unnerving when plunging clearing bits, this will sort that. Great video 👌
There are many comments in the same direction. We all ignored this menu for way too long :D
If you block off the two holes on your dust collection Shield on the bottom of the shaper origin it works 100% better
You mean on the plastic? Covering it with a tape or something like that?
@@Woodensoul Yes sir it has those two little slots on your red button side of the plastic cover I just put a piece of tape over it and it draws all the dust down instead of spraying it out on the side give it a try you'll like it
Woa, super cool, I didn't even think about this. I will check this out!
Are there as well different milling bits, which are removing the material faster or slower? And is the different grinding of the bottom of the bit as well a factor for faster or slower plunging? I would imagen some have the priority just for horizontal milling and some have a good effect for pocket holes.
I think that the bottom of the bit will influence how fast it can remove the material, so if you plunge it too fast, the SO gets pushed back. So yes, depending on the blades of your bit, different plunge speeds might be feasible.
